In regards to comparing the EDFL with the VAFA what section do you think West Coburg would be in if they were in the Ammos? Also I have taken an interest in the VAFA but I really know nothing about it. I know you are not allowed to pay players. How do the clubs get around this?

Many ways. Ex AFL player, with NOBs, reported payment was scholarship for son. Other are assisted with jobs, sometimes, overpaid. Paid holidays and air travel are a few examples.

I find it quite amusing too Tige. An absolute back down. He asked for a list and i gave him one. The fact that they say i have no credibility, they give me a list of VLF players with guys that have never ever stepped foot in the club is an insult. The fact is that Clifton even played for Greenvale, and Howard just doesnt play for them. Lachlan Teal couldnt get a kick in a kung foo fight, and was a 3rds player at P.E.G.S. Tim biggs played about two games of VFL and so did his brother, but hey a games a game.

I couldnt agree more with what you are saying. A side like Mansfield would easily take care of the Greenvales and Strathmores, just like they would easily take care of a mid range b grade side. I reakon they would be the same standard of the top a grade ammo sides. To say how many would stay if not paid is pointless, those players are there and they play for the club. Sure they get paid, but how many would stay at Mansfield or St Bernards if they didnt get paid. The fact is there are many threads on big footy that say this. In a thread somewhere greenvale was rated in the bottom half on of the 12 best sides in vic footy. The top sides were all EFL and GVFL teams. The ammos hide behind a belief that other types of footy is slow, dirty, unskillful, played in packs and just pays old hacks. They need to wake up and read some of these threads.
Agree with you Aussie Dude, and thanks for responding to the challenge on ex VFL players. I have seen quite a few Ammo's games as well as WRFL, EDFL and country. The Ammo's game is largely "sanitised" through much less leeway in umpiring and body contact. Make their game appear more tentative. I believe this is the main reason they would stuggle against other A grade clubs. By A grade, I mean GV,O&M EFL and probably EDFL.

Yeah comparing leagues is a tough gig but i would think that EDFL would be a fair chunk behind GV,O&M,EFL and Geelond F.L however the standard is improving with all the VFL and ex AFL playerst starting run around in it. The EDFL would be 1 of the more faster growing leagues in terms of standards in Melbourne, its just a bit of a mugs league with some dirty players and a couple of king hits been thrown around which isnt healthy.

A couple of my mates left Willy this year for Douttas and 1 of the poor buggas had his nose broken twice and was fairly worried as anyone would be of getting belted again. I know its the minority of the league but its that minority that is the worry.

The EDFL need to do what the WRFL has done and completley clean the league up, the WRFL would be probably Melbournes cleanest league and because of that the standard has improved 10 fold. I would back the likes of Hoppers Crossing, Parkside, Port Colts and St Albans to beat most of the top 5 or 6 sides in the EDFL.

As hard as it is to compare leagues it always insures a great conversation with plenty of opinions.

cheers

airport west have picked up a few, a key position player form an a grade club Marcos Barkley, ex afl player who played for eltham last yr by the name of MIck Martyn also from eltham Marcus Pappa who was a best and fairest winner from when we were in A grade. but the most positive part is the club hasnt gone chasing these players by throwing dollars at them they came to the club because they wanted to, not because we chased them. also the club are eager to see how the younger guys pull up after there first season in the ones where 3 played in every single game and another 2 played all but two which were missed due to being unavaliable. these younger guys faired well in the B&F with one finishing second ( ricky Mcveigh also getting fifth in the league and being named in the B grade side ) 6th and 8th. there is a positive vibe around the club where u can find up 2 10 players training in the gym every night at the club so look for a very competitive outfit next yr.

P.S. i know for a fact that Cam Eaton said if he does play (which in my opinion seems unlikely) he will only play for Airport west

You're an absolute ********ing idiot. Dave Biggs played 3-4 seasons with Coburg and Tim Biggs rejected an offer to play at Geelong full time. You also said a blunt "no" to Dan Winkel which clearly isn't true. Scott Howard is an OEG listed player but has not been released as yet. I also said Clifton is rumoured to be changing his home club to OEG. Given he now plays monday night basketball with OEG, it might be more than a rumour. As for Lachlan Teal he is ona VFL list which is more than can be said for you!You think you are a ********ing know it all that really knows jack ********!

I umpire senior footy in the EDFL both A and B grade and I had 1 report all season. The most cases heard in a night at the tribunal this year was 6 and that includes A grade to Under 10 div 5.

As the WRFL beating EDFL saides, Hoppers played Keilor Park in a practice match and only beat them by 3 goals and KP finished 9th this year. I think Greenvale or Strathmore woud towel up most of the WRFL sides.

Great news.

Have gone about it the right way and re built from the 16s and 18s flags of a couple of years ago.

Hopefully Cam comes and plays, could be a flag next year.

Seymour (GVFL Side) played Strathmore at Strathmore in a practice match pre season 2005 which is interesting as both sides won their respective flags. With the final result in the air due to white maggot umpires the over view was Strathmore kicked with a fairly strong breeze in the first quarter and after Seymour booted the first goal Strathmore kicked the next 11 to lead by 63 points at quarter time. Obviously the home ground had a little to do with that result as well. Over the next 3 quarters Seymour dominated and pegged them back to either lose by 3 points or win by 3 points depending on which umpire should have had control at that time. I would rate most GVFL sides over the EDFL but I must say the EDFL Granny was spectacular as was the GVFL Granny. Good luck to both sides in 2006.

Any truth to the rumour that Goggin and Walker from Seddon-Yarraville are going to the Mores next year.

Earlier posts indicated that Goggin was going to Strathmore. The situation I find amusing is Strathmore throwing the bank at Tim Little to get to join his brother, and Sunbury throwing the bank at Richard Little, to get him to Sunbury to join his brother. Oh brotherly love!

Spoke to Goggins, almost certain that this will occur, and quite a player the boy... Will be interesting to see how he goes in a stronger comp...
Tim wasnt interested in leaving Sunbury, but after recent events, gee you would have to be tempted now wouldn't you.....

But hey Moonee Valley can stay as long as they want. If the EDFL want to try and preach to the world that they dont accept clubs with a little bit of history (some not so good ,most excellent) then they might as well kick out half the league.

What a bunch of old ferrets that run that league, the EDFL has been corrupt with crap for years now, enlisiting Sunbury to the competetion is only going to ensure the standard rises and the competetion gains more exposure.

cheers

Agreed...

I hear Steve Kretiuk, Corey McKernan and Adrian Hickmont have put up their hands to coach Keilor next year.

There are quite a few former Doggies in the EDFL, aren't there? Kolyniuk, MacPherson, Minton-Connell and now possibly Kretiuk.

whats the go with adam winter is he staying at strathmore or going into

I read in this week's local paper that Kretiuk all but had the Keilor job but knocked it back coz he got offered a gig at Werribee. The article also says the president said John Barnes was not approached. Apparently they will be announcing the coach in the next week or so.

Let's understand the rules of the EDFL, before we make any judgements. The rules state that clubs wanting to join the EDFL must lodge an application in writing. Last time I checked Sunbury had not done this. The application then must go before a meeting of the EDFL. What "EDFL" means is in this case is the board and all elligble to vote and the Prez and Secretary of all constituent clubs. A motion then has to be moved, seconded and voted on. So until all that happens, speculation rules, and the EDFL cannot state that Sunbury will not be accepted.
In theory thats how it works. In real life, the board of the EDFL may be actively suggesting to Sunbury not to apply, and offering a lot of encouragement to stay where they are. If Sunbury does apply and all the negativity is correct, the board will lobby to have the vote fail. Sunbury are also free to lobby clubs to get a positive result.

Scrub McKernan from that list.

Big rumour that North Coburg full-forward Tarz is going to play at another B-grade club. What is the general opinion on the big guy?

Where is he rumoured to be going?
