Just registered - havent heard any news about Airport West - they've picked up a few - high hopes for the finals - how will they go?

In regards to all these people talking about clubs recruiting etc, it is like people are scared to let the standard improve and the comp bridge the gap to Easterns, Diamond Valley and Amatuers. We should be happy that all these great players are coming into our comp. Imagine Mercuri comes to APW, as I have heard is a maybe. It would be great news.

How do people think Marcus Barclay will go? Great player for K. Park. Pappa, Michael Martin, Verral and Castello? Some good pick ups. They are confident of a top 3 finish.

the clubs that will be around in years, will be your pascoe vale, keilor, glenroy. . .these are the clubs that have been round for years and stay strong even when they arent performing. . as for a salary cap, it could not happen at all, the AFL cannot even control there salary cap, let alone the EDFL
a salary cap based on a points system does work and is easily policed. Other leagues have trialled it and it has been a success. However with the head in the sand mentality of the clowns who run the league they could not care less about clubs on an individual basis.

Matty, do not get carried away with other leagues as the depth of quality in the EDFL is greater than any other league. The EDFL lets itself down by its lack of promotion off field, you only have to compare league websites. Its laughable that the league is demanding that clubs get themselves upto speed and be more professional when the league itself is run by amateurish and outdated people.

Ash Manning takes the coaching gig this year and has a bit of cash to spend.
wont make finals but will be a much more competetive side than in previous years,

You're saying the quality of football in the EDFL is greater than Eastern, diamond valley and ammo's??? Are you serious??

The gap has definately closed. I think the comp is getting past Diamond Valley slowely. Obviously, due to the recruiting and $$$ clubs in the EDFL have.

If the leagues got together and organised a round robin of all the metropolitan leagues EDFL would be pretty hard to beat...

yes, they would, we will just have to wait and see later in the year when that happens.

Mate the club lost 5 players before Xmas and have gone out and signed 5. The club is not spending as much as everybody ASSUME and have many players that have been Marby boys for years. Gilpin, two Agrestas, Bangit's, Jack Scott, Kruger, myself, Rocky Davidson, Barboro, Bryden, Nash (Junior) that is 12 out of our top 24.

Maybe you should of popped your head into the AGM and seen the spending. What GA decides to provide extra to ertain player is a bonus, that obviously is ENVYED by others.

Guys you need to get off Marbys case. People go off ranting and raving that the parkers have spent HUGE amount of $ in match payments when you have no idea. West Coburg has also had a big influx of players this year and it is great to see the club get these players back. It is great for the competition.

B grade is going to be at an unbelievably high standard in 2006 and that is due to clubs having a crack at getting some quality recruits into their teams.

I understand that clubs need to look at long term future and Marby appear to be focussing on their juniors which is fantastic. Gone are the days where the $ wasnt important. I live in Bendigo and some players are reported to getting $1000 big ones a week!

Caveman,

You are right with the fact that the days of the $ not meaning anything are gone, but you have to take the players you recruit to task it cannot be one or hit wonders because it will emplode on yourself.

Also I hear scourcher triplett will be part of Matty show I hear scourcher didnt rate the EDFL?

Cheers

The EDFL thread sure has sprung to life since M Pillios discovered bigfooty.
Would now be seriously challenging "The Official GVFL thread" as the most active on the regional leagues section.

Heard some interesting news about Airport West. Apparently Big Denny is going around claiming that they will beat West Coburg and Maribyrnong Park this year and how these clubs will self destruct in the future.

Also heard that Kevin Donnelly is trying to shaft Denny and get the coaching job the year after.

Barclay is overrated and will be found out in B grade!

Yes the great Scorcher should be appearing on the show. I think the talented, but stubborn man is realising the EDFL is now way superior in standard than WRFL: Not to de-grade WRFL at all. He has shown great interest to be a part of 31's favourite football program.

Caveman you are correct mate. I noticed last year that Marby's bar and canteen takings from match days was nearly $10K up from the year b4 and sponsorship was $12K over. When your winning it attracts more supporters, sponsors which naturally creates more revenue. Love the websites mate.
