Just a topic for discussion that came up over the weekend was the melee fines that the EDFL are handing out.
Was watching an under 14 game on sunday, when a scuffle broke out (no punches thrown). I was informed after the game that both clubs were fined $110. What an absolute joke. If players get into a melee, there not going to care about fines. Its only penalising all the volunteers/committee members trying to raise money for their clubs.
Questions have to be asked:
Is the Edfl that desperate for funds?
Are any clubs actually paying these fines?

I think the 'rule' is that if more than 6 players from the same team involve themselves in the 'scuffle' then it is deemed a melee, & reports/fines etc can be dished out.

But I've seen numerous ocassions this season where 3 or 4 players might be involved in a push & shove & the umpire will be there screaming "Don't get 6, don't get 6 in". So I assume most players would be aware.

That's in seniors anyway, I'm not sure if it's a blanket rule for juniors as well.

What about the stars NEMO? Do u give them any chance of making top 4? Heard your off to Darwin soon :D you may have to grab a few recruits whilst your up there?

Umps have got it wrong - the rule states that more than 6 in constitutes a melee - it goes on to say that it must bring the game into disrepute - now - how can say 10 U14's having a push & shove bring the game down. Sure we don't want to see it but you wouldn't dish out $110 fine for it unless you just want to rip the clubs off. By the way if the game is heated 1st offence is $110 2nd $220 3rd $330 not sure after that. I have only seen 1 & 2 not the third. I believe the rule and fine structure will be reviewed at the end of the season.
The days of flying the flag are becoming very expensive for the clubs.

Was anyone down at Marby v Haddy, probaly the best blew ever seen on a footy field (very ugly), game stopped for about 10 -12 minutes in 1st quarter. Most spectators and players were very suprised that the game wasn't called off then.

something like a 42 minute first quarter

Haddy lost the fight and match.

Who were the main players. Anyone get smashed or reported
Zerafa got knocked out ,Garbutt reported and sent off Haddy had no bench after 1/4 time ,one bloke taken to hospital,2 with concussion and one with badly bruised ribs but really the umps just lost control and could be an interesting week for both clubs.

Zerafa was king hit behind play, that what caused the all in brawl, Haddy players got there just deserves. Of course poor poor Hadfield are not saying it was not a king hit.

Situation did not help when the one of the umpires was young 17/18 yeras old if that.

can you please make some sense finding it hard to understand?..GO ROO BOYS

Nearly all players were involved at some point half the problem was that marby took so long to get a strecther on the ground which was why the blue took off like it did.And I spoke to an assistant coach of haddy at 1/2time who was quite sure it wasn't a king hit but a hip and shoulder during play.

Please don't tell me your trying to blame the trainers for a brawl??? The length in time it took for them to get on is irrelevant to the fight....maybe a concern generally if the stretcher wasn't easily and quickly accessible....

Secondly, how the hell does a game continue if what is being described on here actually took place.... The league needs to do something here and come down heavily on the players involved and by the sounds of it even more so on the umpires who appear to have lost total control...... Shame to hear that such a fantastic 'ball' player such as Zerafa still has to be concerned with d.ickhead thugs.......:mad:

How do you get a hip and shoulder mixed up with a king hit 100m off the ball???

Funny that this came from the Hadfield assistant coach. I wonder what the Marby people are saying...... these are the things that ruin the comp.

lets get a couple of points straight.

1.no police
2.no ambulance
3.no king hit 100m off the ball
4.contact was high and late, Zerafa had just got rid of the ball
5.no-one could have controlled what happened
6.no mention of the Hadfield bench, water boy or crowd getting involved
7.incident was not good,, there is no doubt about that
