Very true, I know a few people at Doutta Stars and they have done a great job in creating a fine community ethos so the juniors want to stay and be part of it. Thats what club footy is all about.
Perhaps they can show EK how it's done.
Juniors don't want to be staying at EK next year and it is all to do with the short comings of the committee this year.

Maybe if more Junior parents got involved the current situation wouldnt be there. (ones with football Know how brains not the Treasurer who quit who sadly seemed out of depth ) Half the reason Pat did what he wanted was lack of committee. Parents just seem to want to drop their kids off at football clubs and then complain about small issues. EK needs to build from Juniors but ideally these Junior parents need to stand up.

Its not the parents, clubs have to sell themselves to the kids and parents. Every parent thinks if their kid can kick a drop punt, send them to Keilor or strathmore. They even pinch the best kids later on, look at Campbell grey, why don't the league also help and put a 300 max membership for juniors, instead of the top clubs getting richer and maybe zone the areas for juniors and get proactive get clubs run clinics in primary schools

EDFL won’t do it as they are connected or influenced by the top 3-4 clubs. Pretty simple really. If they had courage they would do something or have a plan. They couldn’t care if there was only a 4-5 team junior competition.

What shortcomings are you talking about ? The new committee this year have almost doubled junior registrations from last year and after a lot of work have also enjoyed a huge increase in intake at the clubs Auskick. So there has been an emphasis of community.

You say "clubs have to sell themselves". "Clubs" require volunteers to sell the club, so the point is , anyone whining about EK who has a kid playing or are connected to the "club" , stop talking and get involved and be the one to "sell the club".... Stop having an opinion on what's wrong and pointing the finger at the great people/volunteers trying their best to run the place.

"Clubs" are made up of a Committee and Volunteers Mandango. It needs 10-20 Junior parents to all put in, all be on the same page and rebuild. And it needs to be a patient 4-5 year strategy and keep getting more junior parents involved each year. it snowballs. its the formula that works at most clubs with a balance of experience blended in (a few stalwarts). It is difficult these days and easily said as everyones got busy lives. But the more hands make light work and rather than worry if their kids not playing enough mintutes on the ball but look at long term even for kids you can be part of a community environment where the kids are all friends for life (not switching clubs all the time). Sick of those involved like current EK admin being potted when they have the best intentions and a junior strategy in place from what I hear, just need more to jump on board

I've been involved in footy clubs my entire life, kids first preference isn't footy anymore, what makes kids come to east keilor over keilor? It's not just getting 10-20 parents to help is it?

Offer fees half of keilor, put money into the junior program, if you don't have a committee led from the seniors down to juniors, it'll never work, east keilor have to have a point of difference from keilor and strathmore to attract kids.

I agree in part, but if the other 30 or so junior clubs don't say or do anything, then the EDFL will continue to just keep on keeping on. There were proposed changes to the by-laws for this season which would have helped with the situation around juniors, but not enough clubs pushed the proposal. Prior to the 2024 season when the EDFL proposed changes to the u10 comp (no scores, no ladders, no finals) only 6 clubs opposed it and the EDFL listened. It's easy to say the EDFL won't do anything, but unless there is a need for them to do so, then they probably won't.
So jump on your clubs committee (if you haven't already) and help change things

Hey just wanna say I gotta push back a bit on a couple of points

Plenty of junior parents do show up and help out heaps (at least at our cub) I’d guess it’s the same at EK too. Why would it not be? Are the junior coaches, team managers, trainers etc are they not all parents?
So saying parents drop their kids off and whinge about small stuff doesn’t really seem accurate or fair, many junior fees are used as money makers for seniors so I would assume any parent who pays fees should have their input welcomed to a point. The majority of the time it is the junior parent helpers who are volunteering. Show me seniors (or their parents:tearsofjoy:) who turn up to junior events, training or to assist in the canteen on junior game days and or junior events? I can assure you NONE rarely turn up to any junior volunteering items and they are the ones being PAID in most cases by the junior fees acquired. The junior parents are generally the ones working the senior canteens and kitchens.

Next point: I would be careful knocking the committee at EK they may just come out with a bullying statement against you even if it is true! On the point about leadership, yes—strong, football know how voices are important. The bigger issue might be why people stop engaging, or why they resign. An earlier thread did indicate not only the treasurer but also the VP and other comm members also quit. That kind of turnover doesn’t happen just because people are “out of their depth.” It’s worth asking why they left? Is it because they saw deeper structural or financial issues, or simply felt sidelined.

Last Point: Everyone agrees all clubs and EK need to build from the Juniors. If we want junior parents to step up the clubs need to be a place where their input is welcomed and respected not just to use them as a money-making tool to prop up in EK’s case failing seniors and the mismanagement of them.

Lets make sure we are looking at the real issues and not just blaming the wrong people, in your case you are blaming Junior parents? Aim higher, leadership starts at the top.

Are you on the committee?

Im not bagging the current EK committee, not sure where I said that. I think Macca would be doing the best he can under extremely challenging circumstances. I'm not talking about parents volunteering match day (which is great but that's a minimum for me in any sport - netball, basketball cricket etc) but in helping shape their clubs for the future. SO when their kids get to seniors there is a club for them. My point it takes many to make light work and I dont think you know or appreciate how much work it takes to run a football club behind the scenes

To be honest I don't think you have a clue what a successful club looks like and how to create a culture where guys stick around and play for unders for success at senior level, which is developed from your junior setup. These sentiments are why east keilor is where they are currently. Buying truckload of recruits doesn't do it, east keilor are a drive thru footy club, you think you put the order in and get to the window for service and you have a club
