People forget to bunk they all volunteers at clubs just doing the best they can as well. So many variable factors in a situation like this
Yes volunteers who knew they were cheating the cap
Happens at many clubs
You know they knew what they were doing and not naive enough to think Keilor are not well over the cap
Many clubs who are rorting the system would have been watching on and now sleep more soundly knowing minimal penalties are all you can expect

As long as he want! Coach doesn’t do the contracts let’s not forget this a good man who has a talent for developing good footballers we are lucky to have a coach of this quality giving back to grass roots football, the systems looses if we loose mick

Some in here need to just cut the bullshit.

mick has complete power over every facet of that football club and gets whatever he wants.

It’s well set up for him to just defer blame to an administrator

Isn’t that the crux of the issue though?

We’ve got a rule in place that no-one adheres too, or polices with any sort vigor, yet we’ve had AFL VIC and the EDFL run a sham “investigation” knowing full well that basically every club in the division would be in breach of said rule.

I have no idea if the club presidents met or not but it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest if it were true, they all try to recruit the same players and they would all know what everyone else is paying and what it is going to cost to compete.

Either commit to the cap or get rid of it all together as others have said. I don’t even blame the clubs personally, blame the governance.

The “line in the sand” moment was upon them and they did stuff all about it, what’s happening now is just embarrassing.
Sorry you lost me at too

Looses🤣😂

Agree LB . Not many people know this but a meeting of presidents chaired by Bruce Kent last year where a large majority of presidents all signed a submission to the AFL to either look at removing the cap or raising it to the figure LB mentioned above. So most of you are arguing against the direction your president and committee want for your respective clubs
It's not just about the edfl, it's about the health of footy over the state. Keilor would not be much weaker, if they played the best kids in the thirds and reserves to overpaying vfl footballers. They don't need to spend that much and neither do most other clubs. Deer park are starting from a long way back so to generate interest they have to spend to start with, Keilor don't

Sorry no glasses
better go to specsavers goldy
Big hitting HS Interview
The three key leaders of the Keilor club on Thursday also revealed:

● They would fight back against misinformation, inaccuracies and scurrilous social media comments, which had seriously impacted the mental health of several volunteers at the club, with McGuane saying: “The axe forgets, the tree remembers”

Look out BigFooty
A blunt axe is worth about as much as Keilors 2023 flag. F' All.

Should we pass the hat around and shout a tank of fuel to the white van drivers who may have to go for premium unleaded this year rather than the 91 octane. Exit speed may be critical at away matches.

Lol.

He knows what’s going on at every club. Didn’t know this was happening at his own club?

I’m sure the person signing off on the contacts can do basic maths
50% over the cap
Don’t treat us as fools
U cheated and got caught
When you’re doing player payments/contracts tho you do go over the cap, but you expect some injuries here and there, VFL players not to play every game ect so it is easy to go over if every one is healthy plus VFL players play 15 games at your club instead of the 5-6 you expected. If you’re paying a VFL listed player $600 a game and they play 5 games the $3k but if they end up play 15 games that’s $9k so there is $6k you didn’t expect just like that!

So at no stage throughout the season they didn’t discuss that our VFL players are playing more games then expected so we might need to look at this and either adjust a few contracts or we may need to leave the VFL players out.

Please mate, it’s $45,000 over, that doesn’t just happen cause of some “honest mistake”.

They knew exactly what they were doing.

How about the Herald Sun today where they say they are devastated by the penalties. What penalties🤣
Before anyone says well they lost a premiership, no they didnt, they still celebrated it.
No handing back there medals either.
Took a calculated risk, got caught and now want us to feel sorry for them.

Ever heard of list management???

Sorry mate, that doesn’t fly. Firstly if it’s going to jeopardise your salary cap threshold then you don’t play your VFL listed player those additional weeks. It’s not compulsory to play them, just because they’re available.

Alternatively, you explain the situation to them, and if they’re still really desperate to play, then they play those additional games for nothing, or not at all.

100% right. All footy clubs would have someone who could do that … and if they plead ignorance then they deserve to be penalised for stupidity.

The Herald Sun understands the administrative error – which Keilor believed had been cleared in 2023 before a re-audit last year – concerned payments to VFL players coming back to play for their home club (Keilor).

In 2021, the club got five games out of its VFL-aligned players, in 2022, it was seven games and in 2023 there was a significant increase to 60 games.

This is the closest we have come to an actual explanation.

In no way is this an “administrative error”.

They have contracted players on high salaries and then played them for more games than planned.

Yes it is not always straightforward to manage, but you have to plan.

You don’t “get” games out of VFL-listed players. You choose to select them if they’re available. You choose how much you pay them.

They have blown the cap in a very straightforward way, it is not an administrative error in any way and if this is the basis of their overspend, calling it an “administrative”, “timing” or “clerical” is just a cop out. There’s also no reason it would be visible in 2024’ audit but not in 2023.

The wrongdoing done by Keilor was not dishonest or distasteful. My apprentice Mick knows what he achieved in 2023 and that can’t be stripped. But I am not here to talk about Michael McGuane. I am hear to talk about a certain someone who in fact is now a premiership coach.

Put some respect on Martin Allison’s name. He is technically now a 2023 Premiership Coach and the Mores getting rid of him was a disaster and will now be forever chasing.

Let's cut through all the crap here.
1. More than not , clubs pay more than the Salary Cap - it's not right, but that's what happens and is widely accepted - that's 1 reason why local footy as it's supposed to be is completely stuffed
2. Points - Keilor, Mores,Abers(now Pacco trying to catch up) have set themselves up very well so they maximise junior numbers , feeding into Seniors = giving themselves best chance to play Senior home growns at minimal points . also by banking a war chest of money from junior fees. Well done

The thing that irks me in the article is Keilor pulling the "mental health card" of volunteers due to being busted. I acknowledge the stress these individuals are going through and sincerely hope they are ok and get through it. The question I will ask is - Where is Keilor FC empathy and consideration of all the other clubs(Hillside/T.Lakes ect.) volunteers they've pillaged juniors over the years? Where have they shown consideration for the mental effect to these poor volunteers doing all the hard work only for KFC to come in and offer "better opportunities"?
Keilor - If you want to sit at the top of the tree and tell everyone you are there because you do things better, then be exposed for cheating, you can't pull the mental health card out because of the pile on.... Can you imagine D Park being caught and pulling that?

Herald Sun article is an interesting read. Don’t see how having 60 games from your VFL listed players is an excuse. If it is going to exceed the cap don’t play them or renegotiate.
I have not read this article but i can review the 2023 playing group and games played.
69 games were played between 5 VFL listed players, Only Cassar played juniors at Keilor the rest were recruited as VFL listed players (ie they didnt get on a list from playing at Keilor!)

More smoke and mirrors sadly from Keilor on this topic

Absolute BS i am afraid, repeating i have not read the story so if other information is in the story please share

Season 2023Games
Nathan Colenso (Quuensland Junior)

Jack Brown (RDFL Junior)
10
Darcy Cassar (Keilor Junior)
15
Jonathan Marsh (Sydney Junior)

Well said

The fact Mick sits there with a straight face saying its an Admin error is laughable. If he thinks all the online stuff is overboard, wait until footy season starts they are tainted
