Well shouldn't all junior fees be the same across the state, why are keilors double that of kids in Geelong?

Would love to see them standardised across the board up to Under 19 level

Clubs always poaching or attempting to recruit other clubs players with free fees etc

Underage players getting poached between clubs does nothing for the game overall

Cap junior fees ..break even for a junior team is max 4K per year

Divide that into 25 kids

Big clubs in EDFL are a disgrace charging families what they do

How about head office do something constructive and adopt this strategy f you think $4k covers a junior side you’ve

If you think $4k covers the cost of a junior team you clearly have not been anywhere near a committee or helped in any capacity at clubland.

Have you ever had a kid play soccer or gymnastics? $400-500 for a 6 month sports program is very cheap and great value for money. Stop the uniformed crap

Probably because they have lots of costs to cover. Association fees, umpires, canteen staff, cleaners, energy bills, equipment + so much more. Running a club costs a lot of money. Fact
The costs don't vary that much, a club like Keilor has probably 6+ teams up to under 14s, so it should be cheaper there. Brimbank council are hardly charging exorbitant fees to use the ground.

Even better value obtained at most other clubs in the state.

I get it and don’t disagree with your comment but they are entitled to charge a price they feel is reasonable to cover costs and run the club effectively. Maybe that’s part of the reason why they are a successful club. Lower fees doesn’t translate into more participation. In fact quite the contrary. Strathmore and Keilor would probably have the highest fees going, yet have the most juniors. So they must be providing value for money, otherwise parents wouldn’t pay it. BTW, I’m not a fan of either club, I just don’t buy the argument that their junior numbers funds their senior program.

Well it sounds like the money hasn't been going to equipment, but to pay for Mick's wage and players, with the provisio your a better chance of playing tac cup if you play for us

I'd suggest junior members will be asking questions now to see where their fees go. If they have 6 sides minimum per age group that's 120 kids paying $400 a season. That's 50k per age group, jumpers, footys, insurance might be 10k, that's 40k profit per age group

I just looked, Keilor have 22 junior teams, so that's roughly 500 kids, $400 membership, is 200k, there's 3 senior grades, no netball, I'd suggest that's a fair chunk of their senior revenue right there

If you have more players you have more revenue, if they need to use lights on a Monday and Wednesday they've got 80 kids instead of 40 to pay for the lights being used. The more players means a greater ability to make a bigger profit and having 22 teams is a big reason why the clubs in such a good financial position

More like Parents paying for supposed bragging rights down the pub or out for dinner with their w***er friends saying little johnny is playing at Strathmore/Abers/Keilor ect.. They just don't realise how stupid they sound and look. And any kid that can play a bit but their parents can't afford the fees are sponsored...

More teams more games more umpire fees for start
More teams more games need a second ground = more council fees for ground rental.
More teams more league affiliation fees

Junior umpires are supplied by clubs, all teams have two grounds and are on long term deals which cost bugger all, as councils want the grounds used. The profits made by clubs by having lots of teams far outweighs any of this

They have 200k in from their junior program, add in the fact all these additional families grows their ability to find sponsors. It might cost 30k to run junior football, that's 170k profit

What rock have you been under regarding junior umpires!!!
Whilst some games don’t get any field edfl umpires, more than 50% do and are charged accordingly. Then if you make finals you normally get a full complement and cost increases.

4.5k for ground usage in one local council area… add a second and that’s another 4.5k.

Not all clubs have two grounds.. if you only have 4-6 junior sides you don’t need an additional ground and hence no additional council fees!

More teams mean if you don’t have volunteers you may need to pay people to do the job that once we’re the domain of volunteers! Canteen bar, line marking etc etc etc

And all ground hire is heavily subsidised by councils as they have to operate by the same state wide report, which varies from Max 4k to on average 1400 a year.

So clubs pay for electricity.

When your junior program has 200k revenue, this is a piss in the ocean

The second ground is significantly cheaper hire, 1k for the season, most junior footy up to under 14s has club umpires so it's only under 16, 18.5 reserves and seniors needing umpires

Like talking to a brick wall

You'll.actually find this on all council websites as they all use it for ground hire. Maybe do some research instead of sacking up Mick's bum, thinking he does no wrong
