I think you will find the Marby hierarchy are scratching their heads as to why they cannot land recruits, especially a ruckman. They have plenty $$$ to spend.
Reimers whilst a match winner is high maintenance. Both Greenvale and Aberfeldie glad he has moved on.
Keogh will be cleared, $$$$ will be the determining factor. Tough negotiator at Section Road, he owes Marby. Hopefully he has done his research on Zak.
Anderson and Purcell are the names I'm hearing at GFC.

Marby have cleared enough players this season, There is NO way Keogh should be cleared I believe he is still under contract anyway.
Marby will be very competitive this year do not underestimate this club!!

Keen to know what/why he owes and anything around Keogh?

Understand if it can't be said online though.

Won’t be playing for Greenvale is my mail.. Good for Marby to hold there ground. My mail tells me Greenvale have offered him heaps, hence the reason his considering switching clubs.
If he was to leave and play for the arch enemy of Marby gee a couple of supporters (ex players) will unload on him when they meet.. Especially at Marby where there is no fence around the ground.. 😉😉

I had hoped Greenvale stopped this type of behaviour a few years ago.

1. Yep - Marby will struggle. Enough quality to avoid a relegation scrap in Mckenzie, Clarke, O'Brien, White, Kokk, Breust, Cornell, Bance plus a few VFL listed signings. In relation to big fish signing - do they have the resources out the approaching the right players? They will be set up well under Laidley and probably hard to score agaisnt on the cow paddock that is their home ground (maybe another turn off for potential recruits) but the big teams will be too strong. Finish 6th or 7th IMO.

2. I still think they are in the bottom 2 or 3. AH my tip to go down.

3. As Above.

4. You'll notice I didn't write Keogh in the listed Marby players. If Marby allow a league BnF, contracted star player to leave after the exodus that has already occurred weeks out from your first practice game they should just shut up shop for the year. Unless Greenvale pay out time and a half of his contract and you make $25-30k.

5. Interesting topic. Will probably be one to watch. Is Blackwell still in line to take over Potter?

6. Mighty Mick. What a legend he has been/is!!!
Breust unlikelyto play still recovering from breaking his neck last year

Regardless of being out bid his a contracted player. Hopefully Marby make him sit out the season.

EDFL 2019: Zac Keogh looks to cross from Maribyrnong Park to Greenvale

Maribyrnong Park will block Zac Keogh’s bid to link up with EDFL Premier Division rival Greenvale and has vowed to ensure the star midfielder honours his contract.
Keogh claimed the Reynolds Medal for the competition’s best and fairest player in 2017 and has established himself as one of the competition’s elite talents.
The former Coburg and Port Melbourne VFL player has attempted to join the player exodus at the Lions, with the club waving goodbye to several key players during an eventful off-season.

Maribyrnong Park president Doug Stevens said his club intended to hold Keogh to his contract.
“He signed a contract in October with us and as far as we’re concerned at this stage he’s a contracted player and required to play at Maribyrnong Park,” Stevens said.
Keogh has made 54 senior appearances for the Lions in the past three seasons and has been named in their best players 26 times, underlining his consistency.
Asked if Maribyrnong Park could force Keogh to sit out the season if his desire to switch clubs did not waver, Stevens said: “That’s a matter for us to consider down the track.
“At this stage I wouldn’t make a comment on that.
“That’s a matter for our executive and our coaching staff to consider as we get closer to the season if Zac’s still hellbent on moving clubs.
“But let me say this … the guy is contracted to us. Another club in the same competition as us knows full well he’s contracted to us. I’ll leave it to you to work out what’s the honourable and decent thing to do.”

'AFL has a drug issue'
Greenvale president Bruce Kent conceded it was unlikely Keogh would take the field for the Jets in 2019.
“He indicated to us that he wanted to come and play at Greenvale,” Kent said.
“He apparently knows a number of our players and wanted to play and we said ‘that would be good’, but I understand the suggestion is he’s contracted to Marby.
“I haven’t seen his contract, but if he’s contracted to them and they want to make him stand out for the season, they can do that.”
Maribyrnong Park has lost 2018 Reynolds Medal winner Will Martinello, former coach Robert Castello, Daylan Kempster, Chris Prowse, Nick Prowse, Lee Johnston, Nick Linton and Josh Pickess.

Hearing the Roys are looking to poach ex EDS brothers Anderson and a few others training there from Wangaratta. Heard they aren’t to keen on travel and want out of contracts. Interesting how it unfolds

!!!!
Would make for interesting Round 7 clash, no doubt the EDS faithful would make them welcome !!

.

Hows the quote from Bruce Kent! The reason you haven't seen a copy of his contract is because hes contracted to another club! I'm not sure it's policy for clubs to share the contracts of each of their players with opposition clubs!! There is another option as well Brice and that is that Keogh actually honours his contract and play for Marby in 2019

Keogh would have a copy of the contract and you'd think that he'd bring this to the attention of Bruce/Greenvale.
As noted in the article, Marby have final say, so they won't be releasing him unless they're given a good reason to, which is absolutely fair enough.

It is possible Marby are posturing for some 'compensation' from Greenvale?

I'd doubt it. They probably just want to retain a contracted comp medal winner and not let him to go to a rival club.

Compensation is a bit dead these days with the salary cap. Its not like Marby can then have extra funds to chase someone else to replace Keogh as they still need to fit it within the cap

In the old days if a club received $10k compensation for arguments sake they could use that to help fund another player, effectively costing them $10k less for that replacement players services

I think what is most annoying other than potentially losing a good player is that all this was done very late in the process not leaving much time to find a suitable replacement. So it does smell to me..

Also players contracts are really confidential between club and player and they shouldn’t be handed around.

Why sign a contract with Marby then want to leave. It’s purely money based and that is what the cap and points system is meant to erode..Greenvale is a big club but I don’t like how they tend to look within the league to poach players purely with bigger offers. Maybe do some leg work and look elsewhere for recruits.

Is the other reason he is wanting to leave due to the incoming coach????

According to the article, the contract was signed in October, Marby had announced Laidley as coach before that, so doubtful its the coach.

Marby president also intimates in that article that Greenvale have been made fully aware that Keogh is contracted, so i think you're right Turbo something smells

Greenvale has done very little recruiting in recent years and even then with the exception of the Carusos how many of them have come from within the EDFL?

BJ, agree over recent seasons they have been quite and playing with low points (and still doing well) and wasn’t referring to Carusos as there club was dropping a division so that’s reasonable. But in the past the President has been known for offering big $$ to players from rival teams.

I just wonder if there was some conflict with incoming coach.

Turbo, I would have thought Greenvale were one of the better clubs in this regards. Plenty of other clubs, mine and yours included have poached players from other clubs in the same grade. ( Bicer, Harris, Urquhart ).

Most blatant example in recent seasons has to be when Galea, Tanner and Cartelli all left Avondale and went to Keilor. And don’t tell me the only reason they went there was to be coached by Mick McGuane.

Personally, I don't think that there's much difference as it still recruiting from within the one comp.
Credit must go to the Caruso's as they did bring some success to Northern before moving on at least.

Marby, Pacco and Keilor have all engaged in it but realistically, I'm sure all clubs have at some point.
I just don't see the benefit in pretending that any one club is any better or worse with it.
