I just can’t see players wanting to play this type of season with nothing at stake. It would be more 2nds & 3rds players I’m assuming. I know this hasn’t been mentioned however a lot of players are happy the season is done and they can move on with things. The league delaying things was frustrating for many.

Nothing wrong with that if its mostly 2nd and 3rd players playing Turbo. If typical seniors players don’t want to play then don’t nobody if is forcing a individual to play and train.

What going to happen next year , again call it off ? This virus is not going away .
Or when the salary cap will be max $100,000 in 2021 for premier division , what happens to the “seniors” players then ?

The other question is what happens to clubs. They will need to cut there lists but 50%. Good luck doing that. Is that the best for our game. I’m not sure mate..

I think it is. Players will just play for the love of the game/club not the $$$$. Players will hopefully stick around at a club longer then 1 season and not chase money. It will be like early 2000’s when the footballers stayed at clubs and didn’t follow the $$$.

Yes it is. We are in a recession, the $ will dry up at all Football clubs.
Yes mate understand that but some clubs might be better off than others so why should they be disadvantaged. Say a club has money in the bank this year from good management. I do hear you but who knows as another 9 months and some businesses might be up and running. I agree it needs to be reduced just don’t think going from 220k to say 50-75k is a decision based on merit. Maybe say 160k premier / 100k div1 / 60k div2

Being a former VAFA player and now follower, I am on the outside looking in, however living in the district, I do have an interest in local footy.

Perhaps it’s time for our two regional football competitions the have a chat. Yes, I’m suggesting dialogue between WRFL and EDFL to formulate a hybrid competition for 2021 (and possibly for 2022).

I understand that Essendon won’t allow clubs into their sphere if they are not promoting/teaching/developing junior footballers. Mercenaries are therefore, in the main, trimmed.

Essendon also won’t allow junior teams to play in their competition if their senior teams are in another competition, viz PEGS (VAFA with juniors welcome in the WRFL), Therry Penola (VAFA with their juniors happily in NFNL). There are other examples of which we are all aware concerning both of our local competitions.

Perhaps the hierarchies of both of our local competitions could broaden their outlook thus supporting all local teams, both junior and senior. It would be a great opportunity as other codes are watching and ever ready to swoop.

Examples: -

The higher divisions of the newly proclaimed NWFA [for the want of a suitable acronym] (NorthWest Football Alliance) to consist of clubs with junior teams.

Lower divisions to consist of clubs without juniors, no promotion to the higher 3 or 4 divisions until that club has a viable junior pathway.

Clubs without juniors to have their own promotion/relegation within their own sections.

Juniors to be run either as WRFL, EDFL (or a combine).

After the 2nd year, the two competitions would split back into their former competitions, or if it works and everybody’s happy, just leave it.

Why a hybrid comp in 2021? it would make more sense to trial it in 2020, not when there is a high probability that it will be BAU in 2021!

I was hearing the meeting was more about pushing the junior and under 18’s start date back due to the rise is cases.. and to discuss the emails sent in, about the senior competition. But like you said the decision was final.

Absolutely not ,it is about the desire to reconsider the decision and asking clubs to vote yes or no if a season commenced would they reconsider!!!

If now isn’t the time for presidents to call for an EGM then it never will.
A level of incompetence that is beyond belief.
Makes Donald trump look like a messiah

The league didn’t follow its own bi laws before cancelling season. It has to have a club vote. That never happened, so now the clubs have a chance to vote so will be interesting to see what the vote goes.

It’s not in the bylaws.
Just adds to my thoughts that this league is incompetent. Rules on the run

The suggested bi law changes was only run past a select few. A decision was made that the select few didn‘t agree with. So be it, get over it and move on.
otherwise we might as well rename the competition GFNFL.......NOT!

It’s not a change. The board can’t cancel the season until all clubs have a vote. As this vote was not conducted they don’t have the powers to cancel the season. I assume they were challenged over this.

Herein lies the problem. Meetings are held on a divisional basis....mixed questions, mixed answers.
FFS make it all inclusive....we are EDFL

We’re in a once of a lifetime pandemic. Surely having to cancel one season of football is not the end of the world. Do they not realise by having a season means that the 2021 season will start late April anyway to cater for Cricket. Don’t go back on the decision that was made and start on time next season.

Season was meant to start in April and they want to starting playing in August. That’s four months late.

It’s the end of the world to the clubs that have over spent last season and have already used some of the junior registrations for this year. Not hard to guess who runs the competition

The majority of clubs in premier are in the opinion of playing this year.

The government allowing competitive community sport to commence from mid July.

If clubs don’t want to play then don’t , but don’t stop others from wanting to play.

The EDFL is embrassing themselves with this statement. Surely not.
It’s about time Abers , Greenvale , Marby and maybe Keilor understand just because you have used this years junior membership to pay last years players , 24 others clubs don’t care that the apparent super clubs are a fraud , insolvent and running on mass mismanagement, and if you want to keep pushing the other little insignificant clubs (apparently) they will sort out your destiny by standing up and asking for all correspondence to be tabled which is constitutional and able to be gathered at any time.
Pound , Kent , get ready.
