Great post burner. No doubt it’s tough to recruit coming up to premier, gotta feel for Lance the gap is so big that players will be reluctant to join a club that are not going to get close to the finals. Players want success it’s natural. Keilor and Abers GF for the next 5 years. With the strongest juniors the points system is only going to make those 2 in particular, plus a couple others distance themselves further from those 5-6 clubs making up the numbers in premier. It really is a boring comp and it’s pretty clear the interest in it has dropped off in recent years. Div 1 is the best and most interesting division for a reason.

Hey Bissa old friend. I think it’s more the distance out to Craigieburn that is the main issue I believe. I’m sure if any prospective recruit watched the exciting brand of footy the eagles played last year they would be keen to jump on board and the way Lance coaches. But it’s the travel in traffic that would drive people away. I guess Hillside also encounter this problem as the ring road or the Calder in peak times is horrible. Quicker and easy to get to inner suburb clubs.

On the subject of juniors this is really not anyone’s fault mate. Craigieburn should be a “strong” junior club, up there with Abers, Keilor etc as it’s been a growing area with young families for around 20 plus years. Points system should benefit a club like Craigieburn.

Thoughts?

Spot on BJ. I know junior success doesn’t automatically translate into senior premierships, but it would seem with the points system the future should be pretty bright for the Mores. They won flags in under 11, 13 and 17, and lost by less than a kick in the under 15’s. They also headed the ladder in the under 19’s, before being knocked out in the Prelim final, with 6 players unavailable due to playing in the senior team on the same day.

Strathmore definitely need to bolster the senior team with a few quality recruits. There is room to do this considering they generally played at around 35 points last season. That’s now the equivalent of about 30 points when 4-5 players drop a point for next season. Keilor are the standouts for 2020, but Abers are gettable.
From afar they seem to have done a fantastic job in building their junior arm (I believe both Star & yourself have noted the hard work that has gone in here), which should see the senior club well placed going forward.
It's an admirable approach given that it goes against the grain for a lot of clubs who still try to recruit an entire side.
Obviously Strathmore do have advantages over some other clubs but that they remain competitive while promoting a lot of junior talent just goes to show, perhaps some of the negativity surrounding this comp is unwarranted.

Turbo our junior club is doing fine.. U/13 and u/17s both played finals in div 1
U/15s struggled and u/11 lost prelim albeit in div 2..
We have lots of numbers in the lower age groups we just need to make sure they don’t drop off when they get to 15 like they have been lately..
Sick of the old Craigieburn is huge and growing comment.. These people moving up there play cricket and I’d say our cricket club would have 15 sides including juniors.. They have also made their own cricket club .

I agree, it's not just about the size of the population. Islanders an Asians have other priorities.....Rugby and Cricket..

Is Craigieburn too far to travel? That may be a factor, but the main issue?

I think my comments were fair mate. Craigieburn have a lot of Aussies out there as well. Personally think CB should be a strong club competing with the best as they have a huge growth area for a number of years. CB juniors should be up there with Keilor, Abers etc if we are all being honest. But it’s not that way. Yes I do understand the people at Keilor, Abers etc are big business men with $$ but there is more to building juniors than pure $$. My point is the points system should a clubs like CB but......

Very similar to Hillside 🤷‍♂️

Yes mate however CB been around a lot longer and no other new club out that way other than Roxy. Anyway just my opinion but the main point was my response to CB struggling to get new recruits “apparently”.

There’s no ‘apparently’ about it.. We are struggling for recruits!! The money is there and we have a heap of room with points!
Maybe it’s the travel maybe it’s the fact we are coming up .. Who knows but I know lance won’t stop trying
We have a great list of young blokes who are genuine guns Chircop Middleton Villinskis Righele Morrison Davies Fynch to name a few.. We just need some big bodies to help them out

I am not sure if he has already tried, but if you have the money, there are some mercenary's at Bundoora, Wallan & Seymour, which are all close proximity to CB. IF YOU WAVE IT, THEY WILL COME !!!

Turbo mate, it’s not that far. CB is within 30 min of most EDFL grounds barring maybe Hillside/Burnside. Players want success! Who wants to go to a club that will be winning between say 0-4 games. These days it’s easier to recruit and retain players when dropping down a division than it is going up one. Simple as that. The young eagles will have a crack and we know how quick they are but are light on and as burner said need some big experienced boys around them.

Yeah Biss, you and I know it’s not far but a young 25-30 year old player deciding between playing at say Strathmore, Abers, Pacco etc or going up the highway to Craigieburn will more often than not play closer to home. It’s more like an hour in peak traffic. Then a longer drive home post training. Yeah I know it’s sounds like no big deal but let me assure you it’s clearly a disadvantage. Maybe another $500 they might say yes but for equal or a bit more it’s most often “no thanks”.

Anyway best of luck to CB as I can see things are changing up there for the better. Lance and the President are doing a great job. 👍👍

Hey Turbs no doubt you heard Gus Monfries speaking to a few clubs. Do you know where he played this season and how do you think he will go at Strathmore eh I mean in the EDFL?

Anthony Daw at North Heidelberg in Northern, was at Airport West last season can he play. Heard mixed reviews.

Do the mercenaries your talking about have names, if so who are they?

Why don't you contact Gary Moorecroft (fresh from playing Bundoora) cost you a cup of coffee & maybe a lunch, he may provide an opportunity for a "list of potentials from within the NFL" who knows what can happen with the right $$Numbers...- Good Luck !

100% correct Burner. People say Roxy should have more numbers given the age of the area... what they don't understand is that 80% of the people living up here have zero interest in footy. When you add in how small Roxy actually is on reality it's tough. We've been lucky enough to be able to pick up a few of the crazyburn boys the last few years. It's getting tough up this way though

Sure is. Not sure who the mercenaries are though. Looking through the GF squad, only Love, Dickson (who I'm sure didn't play) and Baker aren't playing in the intra club tonight. Tang at North and O'Sullivan retired.
