Ayres, Barling, Buttigieg, Boyd, Hollow and Smith have all left Marby with talk of a few more. They'll leave a huge hole in the side you'd imagine. They've managed to pick up Stevie Baker and some quality players from Tassie through Holland.
It'll be interesting to see how they fare next season after the exodus of the past few seasons.

So with the announcement on Facebook at perhaps every game being taped, does that be a joint venture with the clubs? It wouldn't be cheap @ 300 bucks a game? Does that mean clubs will get copies of each game? would take the comp to another level Anyone know anything

With AW Coach Adam Contessa being a former Western Bulldogs player i believe a few have been in talks with the club :thumbsu:

Why's McGlynn the money man?
I've heard Livo may be going back to Kerang but nothing concrete.

Is it true of all the departures from Marby Park? Everyone is talking that the reason is the money has dried up and all the players are following the big cheques at Deer Park and other clubs. Livingstone presented with "Best Clubman"award at presentation night last year, now has left as he won't get paid as much as he has been. Other players such as Barling, Ayres ect.ect. "love" the club , but obviously not enough to stay for a few bucks less than what's being offered at the next "in" club...
I suppose these players gave the "old Marby" people a great couple of years, but it just highlights how $$$ has wrecked local footy.
I don't mean to have a go at these players and Marby, just using them as a classic example of $$$ being the most important thing in local footy now... Somewhere along the line we've really stuffed this up, and that is every club.

stephen clifton to edfl? raph clarke to avondale?.more wangaratta players to abers ( porter bros )?
At the North Ballarat B'n'F he hinted at returning there. I can't say for certain though.

Anyone know where Steve Macpherson will be next season?
Last I heard he was at Marcellin, not sure if he's moved on though.

Everyone knew that they were a side built around mercernaries, it was all a matter of time before they got better offers and took off elsewhere. At the end of the day Marby went from being the poor neighbour of Abers to winning their first flags and having the most talented list over the past 4/5 years, I'm sure actual Marby people would've been wrapped to see them win even if the success does prove to be short lived.

Just want to say well done to everyone at the league, North West FM & the rest of the call team on getting the EDFL short-listed for an AFL Victoria media award for best match-day coverage.

The previously VCFL-only awards were expanded to include metro comps this year and the short-list is: One FM 98.5 (Goulburn Valley), Inner FM (VAFA), Fresh FM (Bendigo FL), 3WAY FM (Hampden FL) and North West FM 98.9 (EDFL)

You can hear the nomination submitted (with clips from all three divisions) here:

Aberfeldie has recruited midfielder Wayne Patak ( ex Mooroopna and Spotswood premiership player ). Finally they will get a "hard nut" instead of the over priced ex AFL players they have recruited over recent years.

Should get value for their $ 1.0K per game player.

Avondale Heights have signed ex basketballer and Western Bulldogs rookie Eddie Prato who played with Wodonga Raiders in 2012. Eddie will never win "master mind" but should be a good signing.

What you say is true about Marby being wrapped in winning flags. When clubs let money men stroke their own ego by buying flags, they know it will eventually dry up. Even though you can't blame Marby for taking the money, they should be criticised for not setting their club up to be a well managed Premier Division Club who could stand on their own after the money dried up. As for the money man, he has gone to WFL to stroke his ego some more and do the same there. What is amazing in all of this is that the money man is on the EDFL board. How can a board member be instumental in directly inflating player payments and being such a negative influence on the league clubs in general. He alone has cost every club in EDFL Premier Division around $20,000 per year in inflating player budgets. That is $20,000 last year, the year before and the one before that as well as next year and years to come!!!!!!!!! Come on Pricy, how can you let this happen in having a board member represent the league whilst bringing it to disrepute? We know that you read this forum even before you read the Herald Sun with your bacon and eggs in the morning, so Pricy have a think about it!!

Who will be the best recruit in the EDFL in 2013 ?????

One player who will not be one of the over priced recruits in the EDFL in 2013 will be a player returning to his junior club - Luke Cartelli is a Keilor junior who played with the Western Jets before graduating to Williamstown (3 years ) and Coburg ( 2 years ) and will be a star recruit because he is tough, resilient and will play at a high level every week.

If he's on the EDFL board whilst weakening an EDFL club by poaching players to play for a WRFL side it's a bit of a conflict of interest..
I'm not the best person to speak of Marby but they've been improving their juniors over the past few years so hopefully for their sake that this will hold them in good stead going forward.. they'll have one of their juniors being picked up in the upcoming draft most likely, which will be a step in the right direction and encourage more young blokes to head down there.
As for the spending, whether it's Marby/Greenvale/Abers/Strathmore someone is always going to splash the cash more than others and as we've seen previously the club doles out the most money to players doesn't automatically win a flag.
For mine, if someone wants to piss away stacks of their own cash for a year or two, let them. The "Marby model" of buying a whole side is never sustainable as someone else will be able to turn their head with even more money at some point. A good club isn't built soley on money which is why the Strathmores/Keilors/Greenvales never fall away too much despite fluctuating expenditure.
