Great to see Eric Kuret back for Greenvale on the weekend.

After his round 1 injury, I along with many others didn't think he'd be back this year let alone after two months.

Great result for the Jets and league as he's consistently been one of the stars of premier division footy for many years.

Questions have to start being asked at Abers, Larkins and the other contributors would be wondering what the heck is going on with the half mil they have spent.

Three losses, level with Avondale at 3/4 time, smashed by Northern and I dunno what happened last Sat, but also 6 wins, so maybe not all doom and gloom, but I understand a lot of new faces so maybe they haven't clicked yet.
Wondering if you are in the know at Abers to be throwing those numbers around ?

Not at all but I thought it was generally accepted that the football spend is somewhere around that mark. If they spend more or less good luck to them, all I was pointing out is the guys the tip in I would think would have expected to see an improvement on last year not to go backwards and they appear to be a fair way back behind Avondale at the halfway mark of the season.

Its closer to $600k because I get paid $100k to play.

This weeks tips. Will the race for the top 4 be blown wide open or will Keilor and Abers slam the door shut?
I think the race for the 4 will open right up.
Jets will beat Abers by about 40
Avo will smash Marby by 10 sausage rolls. Rose & Galea 12 bw them
AW to just beat Keilor by 10 pts
Pacco to seal their spot in Prem div with a 21 pt win over Northern
Strathmore to consolidate their top 2 possi and beat an improving Douttas by 28

There's some pretty interesting games fixtured this weekend.
Abers vs Greenvale, can go either way with both teams needing the win to keep pace with other finals contenders.
Avondale should beat a young Marby side comfortably.
APW vs Keilor is another that could go either way, both sides needing to win to keep themselves in finals contention.
Paco vs Northern is a huge game for both sides as they aim to maintain their place in the Premier division next season.
Strathmore will look to continue their recent good form with a win against EDS.

Also news that a current AFL umpire will be making his comeback from injury in the Abers vs Greenvale game. Not sure if this was done with the AFL and EDFL choosing game of the round for the return but could lift/lower standard of umpiring for the game.

This is now beyond the joke. First Abers spend $1.2million on their playing squad, and now they have gone out and recruited AFL umpiers for their games.

EDFL needs to put a stop to this spending.

If only they put all that money into developing their juniors, they could be the largest junior club who consistantly made finals across all grades, and could have a growing supporter base of mums & dads going to watch local footy. Oh wait....

Abers faces the similar problems as Keilor.
Our good juniors don't play seniors at Abers. They bypass EDFL and go straight to VFL or AFL.
The ones that do stay and play senior grade are not up to it.

Well said Shags, it is great to have strong juniors but it doesn't translate too senior success. As you said all the good footballers try their luck at higher levels which is great, but a lot of the ones that leave to play higher grades and don't make it come back with big heads demanding big coin and they are not worth it. They then go and play at lower levels where they are the big fish in a small pond.

I agree a lot of our players have gone higher with blokes like Daniher, Toy coming back and playing well. Al Keford is the latest to go to a higher level but he was a great contributor in last couple of years.

Surely you would agree that Moylan, Sharpy, Prestia have all been good consistent senior players this year? And if it weren't for injury OJ would've been great.

While it may impact the senior clubs prospects on field, it is ultimately what community footy is about, helping young fellas reach their potential.
Abers and Keilor in particular have done a fantastic job of this.

Thats right.

Love how some have a crack at the spending amount of the senior section, yet bypass the fact that these clubs are doing more for junior footy then other clubs.

Abers have a waiting list for their juniors and have done for a while, who cares if they want to spend $2.1mill on senior players

Having a waiting list for juniors can't be a good thing for the development of the game. Do the kids on the waiting list play elsewhere or are they left without a game.

$2.1mil what happened the rest of the TPP

$2.1mil what happened the rest of the TPP

waiting list due to lack of grounds and not being able to put more then 2-3 sides in.

kids normally play elsewhere untill they can get in

Reimers played in the 2nds one game hence why $30k under the TPP.

The ladder isn't up yet but I'd think Northern should be up to 8th with their 29 point win over Pacco.

Al keff the best player at abers last 3 years but fat and lazy at that stage. Hope he is fit and committed.
Sad to think country fnc would do anything for complete list of juniors. Under ages play often 2 games, often seniors!
Abers defence? Were committed to keeping opposition to less than 10 gls last few yrs. seems not happening.
Ok to recruit mids?
Houls?
