There are are not two sides to a story when the story is about a coward who hits from behind breaking the jaw in four places of an innocent victim. I was at the game and if you had seen the result of this vicious assault where Simons bottom jaw was held together only by skin perhaps you would be a bit more critical in the way KFC have defended their player.
The AFL have spent a fortune on advertising how coward punches have no place in society whether it be on the street or on a sporting field. They have a duty of care to everyone who plays their game from senior football to under 10's. All players should be able to feel safe from attack in a football game.
To recieve a 75% discount to a thug that has admitted that he he did throw a cowards punch is astonishing.
I'm sure the people who run soccer will be all over this telling parents and schools that Australian Rules Football actually condones thuggery and will not protect you if a similar act happens.
It seems to me that if someone gets reported against Douttas and appeals it, it's more than likely they will get a 75% discount as it has happened in this case and last year when a Craigieburn player was handed a four week penalty for striking our captain and on appeal was reduced to one week.
I am not upset with the EDFL as I believe they handed out appropriate sentences but their process of appeal seems to always be on the side of the perpetrators and forgets about the victims.
The AFL must act on this immediately.
Do you actually see it or just the aftermath? 3 Keilor players were accused of doing it on the day which shows how well it was seen by all! 3 witnesss's in a crowd of how many? Goal umpire perfect view saw nothing? There is no doubting the horrific injuries he sustained and I said clearly above if it was a Keilor player in clarkes position the club and supporters would be reacting the same way as douttas have but it works both ways! If douttas feel so strongly against violence on a football field why have they not outed the player who broke the Keilor players nose? Remember the one who got sent off for the blood rule which lead to him being accused for 2 days of being the one to belt Clarke?

My original post stated the correct coward before the moderator edited all the numbers. Can you name the player who broke his nose? Was it a hit from behind? You people still don't get it.

With the kangaroo court complete @ keilor & a few players getting suspended from last weekend & Mighty Mick resting 6 player's Marby should win & put EDS finals aspirations in doubt
How does the group feel abut this weekends Prelim Greenvale vs Aberfeldie? Who do you expect to come out with a win?

Yep but really need to lift a gear or two to avoid simply making up the numbers.
Their best is up with the best but they seemingly lack in consistency.
What are your thoughts?

I have seen their performances against Aberfeldie and what I have seen over the last 2 years they will be making up the numbers not even close have expected so much more and never looked like it.

I'm obviously hoping that Gvale can get it done but Abers do go in as favourites.
Can the Jets keep Reimers quiet? & Shinners, Maric and co will need to be on song to kick a decent score against a quality Abers defensive unit.
Either way it should be a good contest.

Everyone so far has based there opinions on heresay! it's interesting that everyone is so sure of exactly what happened (majority of the people with the strongest opinions of it not even at the game)
There's 2 sides to every story and unless you sat through the investigation, tribunal & appeal you don't really know both sides arguments. It's easy to criticise Keilor for "defending a coward" blah blah but I'm sure if the shoe was on the other foot most clubs douttas included would be doing the same thing Keilor are and if it was a Keilor player in clarkes position Keilor would be doing exactly as douttas are doing!
So what's his side of the story? Was he trying to swat a fly on Clarkys jaw? Seems pretty straight forward. Hasn't he pleaded guilty to striking from behind? Which ended with Clarky having a broken jaw.

Player suspended for a week for misconduct.

And a Pacco player gets 1 week for shiwing thd bird to the crowd. Pretty sure a 50mt is sufficient. Could have kicked someone and got 1 extra week and some striking charges have got less weeks. Absolute joke!!!
As the player is not from a certain club, he was "probably" advised not to contest it as they probably would have given him 4 weeks.

Once again I point out we have 3 field umpires, 2 boundary umpires & 2 goal umpires. Surely they can control a game a keep an eye on incidents. They spend far to much time having conversations behind play with certain players (whinging and carring on) instead of watching the game and ground. I'm guessing if you are an umpire and report someone and they get off why would you bother reporting anyone else and waste maybe 2-3 hrs at the tribunal.

Agree footy is a physical sport and the odd fight might occur but if it's front on stuff I guess to a point you can wear it, but I can't stand hits from behind/side, wayward elbows, kicking and kneeing.

Hey watch it all - do you recall my version of a "kneeing" incident to a player on the ground with the ball, when Keilor played Pacco at Pacco. I could almost assure the readers if it was a Pacco player he would have got 50mts or reported but as it was a Keilor player it was just a free kick. The play was stopped for a couple of minutes as the player was hurt, but once again some clubs get looked after..I was fuming watching that as it was a low act IMO.

there was no pleading guilty to king hit, to striking from behind. Pleaded guity to striking as he made contact to jaw. Argued it was not intentional but accidental contact which was probably why appeals board reduced the penalty

The appeals tribunal found him guilty of intentionally striking from behind, this is why it is so baffling... they have come to exactly the same conclusion as the 1st tribunal, and reduced it by 3/4...(amazingly 1 week short of a life ban) this is not finished by a long shot.. and the so called independent appeals panel from what I hear may have some answering to do shortly.

I have no horse in this race or did i see the incident, but did he actually plead guilty to striking from BEHIND or striking? Everybody keeps going to the fact it was from behind but has there been any proof or admission of guilt?

yes remember it, was crude, umpires right there, was clear view but deemed it not reportable. What do you want done about it now, hopefully our guy had learnt his lesson.

he plead guilty to striking and tried to argue it was accidental, he agreed he hit him from behind but it was accidental and to the right side of clarkes face with a left hand.. that would be one magic hand..also 100m off the ball and accidental?? Lol.. He was found guilty of intentionally striking from behind with the right hand the first time (cowards punch) and then found guilty of the exact same thing in the appeal (cowards punch)and had a 3/4 sentence reduction.. just coincidentally 9 weeks so he is not banned for life. Amazing u lot are still trying to protect this thugs integrity.

Not trying to protect anybody, just asking for the facts. I seem to be reading different descriptions on the incident depending on which way their bias swings.
