No mention of Abers, how will teams handle the bye in Premier with a 9 team comp?

I didn't mention Abers because there is no way of EDS competing with them without the injection of $500k.
Reserves football is a better indication of homegrown vs homegrowns and Abers true culture showed through!

I think your post is 100% spot on. But eds have 13 players that have played senior footy regularly that are under 22. Hold onto them who knows if Cronin kite sciberas stay. Shylo is only 25. The list to me needs key post players and 2 gun on ballers. With some experience. I think eds are in a better position than airport west and west coburg. Purely by the youth.

Thomas couldn't get a game in B grade. Rogers, Ellard, Rossitto all proven not up to A grade. I'm unsold on Ronaldson maybe he could develop further and needs too. Barnes is a capable no.2 Ruck in A grade but as shown in the GF quality ruckman will destroy him.
But you are still correct in acknowledging the young talent is at the club - Meyers bros, Hobbs, Toa plus all the TAC boys if they don't get drafted could easily make the step up. Fabain (forgot surname), Dimatteo, Duhau are others that come to mind at other clubs. My point was I hope they recruit with a plan unlike this year when brought in a group with a probably history of moving from club to club

Us Jettas will keep most of the list but some of our older guys may drop back to reserves and that. Great to see the likes of Big Sexy on the big stage last week and that's our future.

Have to agree to disagree with Rogers. VFL development league is very poor standard compared to A grade EDFL. Gun junior but like many before him can't make the jump.
Anyway let's hope EDS is back on the right track and retaining these gun juniors and is a club players want to come too. Hasn't been that plave for a long time

Just to clear something up VFL development has dropped in standard over the last year or 2, however sides like Willy & Box Hill would compete well against edfl premier clubs, especially on a big ground. Maybe Abers would beat them with there strength over the ball and quality players but it would be interesting against the rest. But agree the other side's are ordinary except maybe 3-5 players.
So I'm not sure why VFL players who have played say 3-5 senior games are rated so high under the points system.

I will point out Jake Polizzi (Pacco) & Shaun Wyatt (Marby) played mostly development and Matt Cravino (Avondale) played a fair bit of development (as well as seniors) and won a development comp medal. All 3 very good players in edfl premier and in the top 30-50 players in our league.

More than 2 players from 1 club to another will require the club to release them. Interesting to see if Avondale let them all go. Probably not IMO..

Over 100 people attended a great Saturday event at the Northern Saints Football Club where the premiership winning Super Rules team played a football match against the Under 18's. The atmosphere around the club is now one of optimism. The club culture is now back to where it should be with more people now willing to join the 2016 committee.

The Northern Saints juniors were one of very few clubs in the EDFL which had no reports or investigations in 2015. This was no accident or quirk of fate. It was people making the tough decisions and composing family orientated policies. All the junior coaches have been reappointed and the club will continue providing its coaches with professional development in the off season as well as in the season proper. This includes the AFL Coaches Conference in January.

It's all very good to spend money on good players but money should also be spent on coach development. It is disappointing that not many EDFL clubs send representatives to this very informative event. (AFL Coaches Conference) or the coach coordiantors seminars run by AFCA.

You joking about Barnes being the 2nd best ruck in the comp. he would have been one of the worse.
Page, Bloomfield, Scott, allouche, brown, ball all better the Barnes.
He'd be lucky if he was a 2nd ruckman in premier. He is soft and doesn't gain possessions.

Hey mate, there is a huge gap between 2nd and the rest in VFL development level. There finals teams usually have a few senior players as there seniors didn't play finals. Yes some might have talent, although young but outside maybe the top 3-5 development players at Coburg the rest would not be guaranteed a spot in any premier side.
This is not critical of the players just a fair observation as I've watched a lot development footy over the last 5 years.

I agree with your thoughts especially the last bit. I was more referring to premier division teams though. There is more commitment in the VFL even at development

They are not punishing success, they are punishing the extreme imbalance in the money spent on players. Clubs that are successful, well coached, well administrated etc etc will still be successful and will find their way to the top of the tree for those reasons instead of excessive payments. Perhaps you are one of the players getting paid overs that might have to take a pay cut ??

Who decides what payments are excessive? Somebody like you with clearly no understanding of how a football club operates or what drives success within one. Successful clubs generate the revenue that they can spend. What is the problem with that? Why should they be limited because other clubs cannot afford the same? Its supposed to be a competition and the best team is supposed to win. Who cares how it gets assembled. that's the problem with placing limits and caps and restrictions on success. We are effectively saying you can be good, but not too good because that's unfair...that's bullshit.

Besides from the Glen Allison influence of Greenvale, Marby, Deer Park the rest of the clubs are run by business people with local conections to the clubs they are associated with. Also most people/players will move locations as they grow older, very few will actully live in the same suburb they grow up in.

I know that some will disagree but my viewpoint is this: as it stands there's no real reason for clubs to provide the best coaching, mentoring or facilities for their young people so in many cases, they won't.
Under a properly adjudicated points system clubs will more or less reap what they sow so they'll be more inclined to look after their own.
That being said, I strongly disagree with the prospect of a salary cap.
