And it wont be a player older than 27 you would think. (Thiem just turned 27)

Zverev, for all his many faults, has now made the last 8 of the last 2 grand slams. Yet, I would say he was playing better overall 2 years ago.

AdM would have been 100-1 to beat Novak but it's not impossible for him to beat anyone left given the lack of consistency of the other players. It's the Hewitt like opportunistic slam on offer if he is good enough.

Thiem, Medvedev, Zverev are a level above him.

Yes they are but Medvedev 2019 aside none of them have a track record of consistency. Zverev & Thiem have lost plenty of grand slam matches to players below AdM's level.

We waited a few years to see a new grand slam winner under 30 and it finally happened today.

Let's see who will be next or do we go back to Nadal and novak winning slams

I can't see him getting up for the French in a couple of weeks.

If he does, he is going to need a really soft draw in the first week

can't see Nadal loisng the French.

Just thought I would bump this thread once again. Think any player, let alone someone who is 25, beating a big 3 player in a final* is a huge achievement. First time since 2016 that it has happened, when Stan Wawrinka beat Novak at the US Open. Andy Murray did it at Wimbledon in the same year. They(Stan and Andy) have done it 6 times in total in fact.

The only other player who has done it is Juan Martin Del Porto way back in 2009. And now, we have Danill Medvedev.

One other thing. This is the first time since 2004 that a single Slam has not been held by a member of the big 3 for 2 straight years. Theim won the US last year. That hasn't happened since the French Open 2003/4.

* Cilic defeated Kei in the final of US Open 2014. He did defeat Federer in the semis.
Likewise, Safin defeated Federer in the semi of his Australian Open win in 2005. It was Hewitt in the final.
