There's a few other i would have in front of Banfield at this stage
WCE's other NGA's are currently playing better
Koby Evans has made captain of Perth and was the most impressive WA player behind Cody Curtain in the WA
summer squad, been best on ground for perths two preseason games playing as centreman
Wes Walley will probably play the whole year in subi's senior side as a forward
Tyler Williams been in the best for swans
On Whan he just has a huge tank and a deadly left foot similar to Freo's Hayden Young he is one of my favourites
as he kills sides with his kicking now playing as a mid and grown to 185cm

Whan sounds horrible.

If only we had a spot for an eilte ball user with a big tank.

Hey eDPS any noticeable for Mid Season Draft?
A few good options but nobody standing above the rest at this stage. Cooper Herbert from Calder and Zac Walker from Gippsland should come under consideration and Tom Evans from Gippsland had a huge game on the weekend.

Should get a better idea once the young guns games take place.

Hey mate. What’s your opinion on Kai fincher from the dragons. Very consistent and seem to have all the tools to be a handy afl player

Yeah I don’t mind him down back, has an actual defensive mindset which many young players don’t have. He isn’t flashy but gets the job done, I like his ball use better as a defender rather than midfielder aswell.

If WCE had the first pick as expected who would you pick that you expect would be most likely to impact right away?

Cooper Herbert looks the most ready

Thoughts on the Metro vs Country trials.

Game 1

Metro

Sam Grlj was the standout for me especially when he moved into the midfield more in the 2nd half. The opposition couldn’t touch him with his evasiveness and class but what also impressed was his defensive efforts and willingness to tackle, looks a genuine first round prospect at this stage. Tom Mcgaune started the game well winning a mountain of the ball on the outside before moving to half back in the 2nd half where he wasnt as prolific but still did well. I’d like to see him compete harder to win his own ball and not work as much for cheap possessions but his workrate to get the ball was at least high.

I thought Rod Ali looked really good down back he is hard to beat one on one and is very agile and smooth when the ball hits ground level certainly one to watch for the MSD. Cooper Herbert played as a key forward essentially which i thought was a waste i would have liked to see him play through the middle more. Metro didnt play and proper key forwards in game 1 and I thought the key defenders for Metro looked poor, Mitch Hansen as a medium forward looked dangerous.

Others to impress were Aaron Sharkie who played midfield and half back, Zac McCarthy performed well in the ruck but would have liked to see him play some time forward and my big suprise was Blake Chambers on a wing who used the ball really well going inside 50 and ran hard both ways. He also got forward too kick a goal or two.

Country

Cody Walker looked so dynamic in the midfield and looks a locked and loaded first round pick next year, he has a great mix of contested ball winning and class/vision with ball in hand he was my standout for Country. Tairon Ah Mu kicked about 5 goals but played on some fairly poor key defenders for Metro who didnt really compete, Callum Smith was really solid in the midfield along with Jesse Mellon who has one really classy clearance. Toby Sinnema and Marcus Prasad looked good in the 2nd half before drifting out of the game a bit I especially liked Prasad’s pressure and speed with ball in hand.

Finlay Lockhart looked pretty good at half back and Zac Walker had some nice wins one on one but also couldn’t intercept to his usual level, i thought Hunter Wright was fairly disappointing by his standards and Zac Harding worked hard in the ruck with some good and poor moments mixed in. Metro ended up winning fairly comfortably.

Game 2

Metro

I thought Xavier Taylor was excellent down back playing above his height and proving hard to stop in the air and he also used the ball well and moved well coming out of defence, the defenders overall did really well with Kondogiannis/Fincher/Kneipp all providing some great rebound. This backline looked a lot better than Game 1.

The Metro midfield I thought was well beaten at stoppages with the likes of Rory Wright and Adam Sweid nope being involved as much as usual but both had some good moments with Sweid kicking a nice goal on the run, Sweid came of limping in the 3rd quarter with a fear of ACL but was apparently just a heavy knock and despite wanting to play again was left off for the remainder.

Dovaston was excellent up forward always looking dangerous as was “Tricky” Ricky Theodoropoulos with both providing a lot of speed and energy in the forward 50. Saxena had some really eye catching moments especially early but wasnt as consistent as the other two. Some others to impress included Xavier Bamert, Oskar Ainsworth and key backs Ben Fergusson and Jacob Marron.

Country

The Country midfield smashed Metro with the likes of Sam Lewis and Brodie Atkins dominating at stoppages with the help of Fraser Marino in the ruck who plays like a proper ruck despite only being 197cm. Atkins was a bull and even drifted forward late to kick a few goals, Lewis was crafty at stoppages with his size and clean hands but his kicking often left him down and will effect his draft range imo.

Floyd Burmiester looked excellent although towering over most of his opponents he played in a similar mould to Joe Danher flying for his marks and being very nimble at ground level although some of his finishing was hit and miss but looks almost a certainty for the MSD. Other players who stood out included Jaidi Jackson-Leahy who looked good in the middle and also pushed forward to be dangerous and his Bendigo teammate Jonty Davis also had some eye catching moments up forward. Noah Williams was busy on a wing and fellow bottom ager Marlon Neocleous also showed his class despite his size. Metro won in a close game but Metro where in control for the most of it with superior outside run and class.

Great write up, cheers. Any thoughts on Mitch Stevens' game?

Am I right in saying from what I saw that the stronger draft prospects were playing in Game 1 for both sides? Game 2 apart from 1-2 players in each team seemed to lack the star power across the ground that Game 1 had..

Would walker be a lock to play for vic country all year?
They like to rotate players through the squads so he might miss 1 game but on talent I think he should play every game.

Anything on the man MIA Jack Ison EDPS? Thanks for the notes, much appreciated!
Was his first game back from injury and I believe only played on managed minutes. Should hopefully start building in the lead up to champs.

Interesting to see long term, part of me likes Whan slightly more than Fred at the moment, but I could be completely off base with my thoughts.

Ed is there any reason why Will Darcy isn't playing at the Oakleigh Chargers? Talent?
The Oakleigh list is a tough one to organise due to missing so many players in the middle of the year due to APS so if your an APS player and not considered a shoe in to play in the best squad your likely cut despite likely being better than most other players at other teams squads who don’t lose so many due to APS/AGSV

No i am the same Whan was pegged earlier as more outside like wing or half back
But he has been much better as a inside mid he likes physical contact, runs all day and has break away speed
Rodriguez does bring other players into the game which Whan doesn't really do
