NORTH Melbourne father-son prospect Joel Crocker is set to miss the rest of his under-18 season after suffering an ankle injury.

Crocker, whose father Darren played 165 games for the Roos and is currently on the club's coaching panel, went down with the syndesmosis injury while training last week at school level.

The 18-year-old is expected to require surgery and unlikely to play again this season, making his position in this year's draft pool hard to place.

Crocker had only recently returned to the field after a serious ankle injury at the end of last season while playing for the Sandringham Dragons in the TAC Cup, but it is understood the latest injury is to his other ankle.

The 191cm Crocker can play through the midfield or as a forward, and kicked five goals for school side Brighton Grammar in its clash with Caulfield Grammar late last month in what may be the last game of his season.

It is a blow for the Kangaroos, who two weeks ago were notified of potential father-son Nick Blakey's decision he would be nominating Sydney as his preferred destination.

BLAKEY'S CHOICE Roo father-son chooses Sydney

Blakey, the son of former Roo and Fitzroy player and current Swans assistant coach John, could have joined North or Brisbane as a father-son but instead opted to nominate the Swans as an academy player.

The Roos are still in the hunt for Bailey Scott, who can nominate as a father-son to Geelong and North as well as Gold Coast through its academy, while they will have first call on Tasmanian star Tarryn Thomas under the Next Generation Academy rules.

Darren Crocker had a 14-year career at North, including playing in the 1996 premiership, but his career was interrupted by injury.

After retiring at the end of 1998, he returned to the Roos as an assistant coach at the end of 2004, where he has remained since.

It is always interesting to see who we get our heart set on so early in the year.

I have to admit favoring the South Australian trio of Rozee, Hately and Valente as early picks and potential preference for Freo's first pick (deprnding on where that is - although looking very unlikely we will get a shot at Hately). They look like players that can play forward and provide some strength and run and reasonable skills, with stints (or more than) in the midfield.

Hill is the someehat logical choice given his talent and the local connection, but the height worries me and we already have a heap of sub-178cm players. I don't think he is a forward and I am just not sure what he plays as at the next level....

It really depends where the Dockers finish on the ladder, Hill does some things nobody else can do. Has close to the highest level of skill in the draft class, but his height as you mentioned is a concern when drafting at the pointing end of the draft.

his skill level, agility and pace trump his height. when you are that good i dont think height matters that much. sure it would be nice were he a 187cm, but i think as it is he can be a great midfielder that can rest as a crumbing forward.

i think he'll go in the 5-10 range.

Brisbane don't pass on Lukosius at 1.

Plus I'm not sold on Walsh as most Lions fans.

Did Tom Berry play on the weekend?
A die hard lions supporter and a gun mid would be hard to pass on

And no he didn’t play

If Lukosius is still considered the clear number standout at the end of the year it's hard to see whoever has pick one overlooking him. Someone may yet overtake him, plenty of time yet so who knows.

Hipwood, Rayner, Lukosius and Cameron would be a highlight reel forward line, that's for sure.

Thanks, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Am looking for his season stats so far.
If you can get the footy live app all the TAC stats from this year are on there, easy to have a look for yourself and other players your interested in. No disposal efficiency but everything else you would normally look for is on there

Don't think their available anywhere to the plebs but it's not that hard to do yourself via the kicks effective/kicks ineffective, handballs effective/handballs ineffective stats.
12 March vs Western Jets
17 kicks - 4 effective - 13 ineffective = KE 23.52%
16 handballs - 13 effective -3 ineffective = HE 81.25%
DE = 52.38%

29 April vs Calder Cannons
22 kicks -14 effective - 8 ineffective = KE 63.63%
12 handballs -11 effective - 1 ineffective = HE 91.66%
DE = 77.64%

21 April vs Eastern Ranges
31 kicks - 16 effective - 15 ineffective = KE 51.61%
7 handballs - 6 effective - 1 ineffective = HE 85.71%
DE = 68.66%

7 April vs Murray Bushies
D.N.P.

1 April vs GWV Rebels
18 kicks - 11 effective - 7 ineffective = KE 61.11%
18 handballs - 15 effective - 3 ineffective = HE 83.33%
DE = 72.22%

25 March vs Dandy Stingrays
14 kicks - 8 effective - 6 ineffective = KE 57.14%
12 handballs - 8 effective - 4 ineffective = HE 66.66%
DE = 61.9%

Season KE = 51.4%
Season HE = 81.72%
Season DE = 66.56%

What we can deduce from that is Walsh's kicking needs some work even though he wins a lot of ball in the contest.

Thanks for the plug!

Bytel I’ve heard from numerous people isn’t considered a top 10 pick as of yet so I decided t leave him out this time

Personally I rate Garoni over Munn but if they want a player from their own state then sure why not got for Munn. I think Munn will be a longer term project either way which would lend him to going a bit later or even as a rookie
I hear that Bytel doesn't like to play with a little bit of a niggle to his body. Clubs expect boys to be able to paly with a bit of soreness.

Playing with a niggle and perhaps leading to a longer term injury wouldn’t be ideal either. You can’t just force players to play if they feel they could aggrevate an injury it rarely ends well

I think Patton, Boyd, McCartin and Schache have all proven that you take a key forward with a top pick at your own risk. Walsh is a much safer bet for the Lions.

Anyone can put together lists of players that prove or disprove their point.

I don’t believe Lukosius is anything like the forwards you mentioned. He’s more in the Buddy or Riewoldt mold. Mobile and athletic and able to impact the game up the field.

That could be true. I was just listing every key forward I could think of that had been drafted in recent years with a top pick.
