More than that IMO, the TAC cup is a million $ plus stand alone industry, plenty of snouts in the trough, plenty of livelihoods depend on draft success, i would hazard a guess that if players are remotely similar then Vic boys will get the nod, this year 23 boys from Vic metro, i don't think it is some tight conspiracy, i just think it is the way it is done, after some stand outs most players are very similar or will end up very similar.

If WA was the home of football i would expect it to happen here, so its not a anti Vic rant, although of course some posters will put MO down to that.
Given scouting resources and go-home factors it makes sense to focus on local talent, no? WA clubs would similarly lean to WA prospects where it's a coinflip, SA clubs to SA prospects, etc. It just so happens there are five times as many Victorian clubs.

And we always hear the same bloody private schools mentioned.

It's as if they don't bother to go to public schools to watch the footy.

Public schools, too bloody hard.
Even if a public school's located about a stone's throw away from the private.

If Lukosius and Rankine spudded it up the past few years, we'd not hear about Henley High which is a public school.

Feel like clubs need to hire recruiters specifically for the public school programs.

More public schools, less Haileybury, St Kev's, Xavier, Sacred Heart, Hale, Guildford Grammar, PEGS and Scotch please.

Feel like the draft is more and more a dick measuring contest between the private schools.

Rant done.

The thing is in Victoria the best public school kids end up with scholarship offers to go to a private school so most a lot of the talent tends towards those schools

I'll want to read more about him.

Hi, is Blake Coleman the brother of Keidean Coleman (Lions academy)? What position does he play?

I’m not sure, he could be, played forward and was like a Liam Henry type

It won’t change now, probably the opposite. I would guess 99% of the top 50 rated 16 year olds are offered scholarships at these schools.

Plus clubs have limited resources, if money grew on trees no doubt they would search wider. The chances of a talent not being identified via local leagues, schools or talent scouts is highly unlikely.

No doubt some players may get lost in the years 10-12 due to parties, social life and the likes... But it is very hard with limited resources to cover every private, public school.

Public school footy also doesn't take precedence over U18 competitions, so those kids already get plenty of exposure without needing recruiters to show up to their other games.

Recruiters go to private school games precisely because kids on scholarships aren't able to play U18s for big chunks of the season.

That shows you that their is Melbourne city cognitive bias.

Scouts go to the Victorian private school competitions and watch player X.

He does well at that level. That level of comp makes player x look better.

Player x has a poor championships but scouts remember all the school games.

Player y from WA has a good championship and plays a few games at WAFL level. Player y doesn’t stand out.

Most teams will pick player x over y. Why?
Cognitive bias due to exposed games at a lower level.

I'm with you on this having seen us draft Aaron Naughton at 9, Tim English at 19 and Geelong get Jordan Clark is in the teens. I know we were looking at Clark with pick 6 last night ear but chose Smith instead.

No love for Jack Tillig?

No love for Jack Tillig?
Got plenty but had some bad moments with ball in hand, had one very good quarter and after that really struggled to hit simple targets.

Was played just about everywhere so good to see he has some versatility

eDPS seeing as you watched the Futures game on the weekend, do Blake Coleman, Saxon Crozier and Carter Michael all look like genuine draft chances next year?
It’s hard to say so early out from it. Coleman my favourite of the 3 at the moment.

Hard to see much in the way of change to your current Top 30...Perhaps Brock Smith, Mahony, Sharman & Finlay a chance.
None of them are in the mix at this stage, my major changes will be in the 5-25 range where I’m still undecided and have been for a couple of months now.

We will see some major bolters and sliders in this years draft so getting an accurate phantom will be close to impossible for everyone I think

I'd of thought the Top 7 to be pretty well set really: Comprising Rowell, Anderson, Kemp, Green, Ash, Young & Gould....McAsey, sharp & Robertson to round out the Top 10 for me.

It’s good now, hasn’t always been his strong suit

Bottom aged at 15s carnival at Gippy Power they had gps trackers attached and he was second in the carnival only to Duursma for distance covered, metres per minute and average speed. AFL fitness guru put up the data at the coaches’ meeting on the final day. I think it is perception only, that he hasn’t got the tank.

Yeah my confusion came in an interview he had saying it was something he wanted to improve, I have been told recently his endurance has always been good moreso that he strives to be even better.

I didn't think Serong had the speed or leap of Ainsworth?

Both Ainsworth and Jack Higgins had outstanding TAC cup seasons, dominating statistically. I don't believe Serong has been at that level yet this year.

Serong has a terrific vertical leap and is easily a better athlete than both Ainsworth and Higgins. I don’t remember Ainsworth having a very good top age year. He spent time injured and time suspended and Power were very ordinary that year. He was trying to play mid to show recruiters that he was not just a small forward.
