I know you are going on current ladder spots, but I'm thinking we may not be sitting on pick 16. We are far more likely to be sitting in the Sharp range of the draft.

We are also very much in need of small/medium forwards. Good pace, goal smarts, midfield as a second job.

Who would be on that short-list?
You have added the likes of Colyer, Shultz and Matera in recent times so I assumed a small forward wasn’t on the agenda this year. Sam Sturt was also your first taken last year and he is a medium forward with speed.

Elijah Taylor I’ve only seen play on the wing but looks the type that can go forward with his decent speed and agility.

But if your club is that keen for more small/medium forwards the other types are

Cody Hirst
Jack Mahony
Josh D’Intinosante
Kysaiah Pickett
Cameron Taheny
Hugo Ralph-Smith
Josh Kemp
Ned Cahill
Cody Weightman
Miles Bergman
Mitch Mellis
Jye Chalcraft

Many of those players can be played in the middle/wing aswel.

Its back, very rough for the first time as usual, plenty of players i wanted to showcase but just dont think they suited certain clubs at that stage.

What are your thoughts behind mead and Mahony placement?

Just were you wanted to place them?

I would be livid if we had to pay pick 11 for mead when a guy like bailey Scott goes in the 40’s.

Even being a f/s and a good prospect I would still pass on that bid to take a certain player that goes after him.

As for Mahony did you just think that was his rough placement in the draft?

Off of limited viewing I wouldn’t be keen on him for port at all.

whats your thoughts on D’Intinosante he’s had a good start for the knights getting best on the last two games and having 20 and kicking 2 in the first?

Port was hard to place, I really like Mead so having him go at 29 didn’t seem right although I don’t expect a bid that high at this stage I just couldn’t be bothered with the bidding this early on.

With Mahony it was a case of best available and someone who could come in round 1 in 2020 and contribute. With runners such as Rozee, Butters and Duursma added last year I looked at a player that was more consistent and able to be thrown into the contest if needed to allow those types to keep on the outside where they do their most damage. Was their a type of player you think port should target?

Would think the safest bet is slot mead into our second rounder as that is what would be used to match and worry where a bid might come later unless you thought that wasn’t representative of where you think he is rated. But anyway it’s your thing so do what you like.

As for Mahony we have drew atley patmore wines spp along with those guys we just drafted. Don’t see what Mahony adds to that group as I worry he is a limited player.

The only need that is hugely pressing is kf but this draft doesn’t look strong in that area.

Running mids I would think is a need.

Think port would be looking at best available talent but our recruiters seem to love running power and Ballwinning so any prospects that fit that could be popular with port. Serong is a guy I can totally see our recruiters loving with how involved he is and impact.

I am well aware there is a brissie lions draft page BUT.. would love Gould, we seem to get towelled up by those mid sized De Goey types foward, and you can never have to many classy ball users off hb, would also free Richy up to play closer to goals.
Will Gould, for me, is a very similar player to Darcy Gardiner, but with a longer kick.

If I'm going to rate my preferred players in the draft.

Hayden Young tops my list by a mile. He's be ideal for our back line.

Then Sam Flanders and Caleb Serong would be the next two on talent on my list.

And I'm a big fan of Lachlan Ash. Classy half back flanker who is a good user of the ball. Doesn't have top end speed, but is faster than Rich and Witherden, and is just as good a decision maker and user of the ball.

If we miss out on Young, Flanders and Serong with the Collingwood pick, Ash is top of my wanted list.

None of the current players you list are compelling. Sturt is skinny as, and projects more midfield, rolling forward. A debut late in the season perhaps. Switkowski the other option. . The club seems to prefer multi position players and I see them looking for that forward/mid.

nailed the giants picks, don’t think the Suns will go Pickett , they already have Rankine and some academy small forwards

us getting Maginness early/mid 2nd round is likely, unless a club wants to push us and bid late first round?

we have a heap of outside mids, so even though i really like what i saw from Sharp in the national champs, we are more likely to take someone else if we even have a first rounder and dont trade out of the draft again? if we actually had pick 12 and the draft went down as you predict id want us to pick 1 of O'Neill/Dow/Ash 100%

Looks like both you and I rated Jack Ross for all the right reasons Lenny?

Was miffed on here when he didn’t get a Metro selection, I don’t mind myself a humble brag when it’s warranted ;)

Next ranking update will be next week, expect some big changes especially in the top ten.

Got a fair bit out of the Metro and Country trials with players performing over, under and expected. Overall not a great standard with the 2nd game looking much better lead by Rowell and Mott through the midfield and Butler with the ball on a string down back. Kemp and Dow missed for Country which was unfortunate.

And your "unbiased" opinion on my GWV Rebel lads especially Jay Rantall?

Rantall very impressive, one of the better midfielders in the first game

Martin didn’t get much of it but used it well

Wareham did some nice things

Mahony did some nice thing through the midfield, a bit to work with

Herbert didn’t do a whole lot

Rantall the standout of the Rebels boys

Kicking?

You had issues the other day?

Best/worst for each game?
Or coming out with rankings tomorrow?

My rankings are next Sunday but I covered the best players for Country in this article

I didn’t get a great reading on the Metro players for the most part since I had to do the Country players, might wait a bit to properly say who where the bests
Kicking?

Poor on a few occasions but did everything else very well, a lot to work with if his kicking can be improved

Really!?! number 3.
For mine he is exactly the type Melbourne needs and at the moment Ash is a top 10 prospect so I didn’t see it as a massive stretch at this stage.

Why would the swans want another two little guys when the need an imposing, physical inside mid?
Unfortunately Anderson will be gone and Tom Green is going to the Giants. Serong is a very good inside mid with the ability to go forward and have an impact. Brodie Kemp/Dylan Williams where also considered but they may take longer to eventually run through the midfield and by that time you would hope Callum Mills and Nick Blakey are being used through that midfield. Rowbottom also goes alright as an inside mid who is waiting in the wings.

Mills is a back, blakey a goal kicking forward.
Swans need another JPK in the next 2 years.
I still think you may need to look a little closer at their academy prospects.

Mills was an inside mid before being drafted and Blakey looked fantastic as a mid when given the chance for the allies last year. Both of those players can be that mid if given the chance
