Mills was an inside mid before being drafted and Blakey looked fantastic as a mid when given the chance for the allies last year. Both of those players can be that mid if given the chance
Have you watched the northern academies play?
Or do you rely on the stats from games?

I’ve watched a full game of the Suns vs Oakleigh and Brisbane vs GWS. Watched a bit of other games during the week but it’s alot of football to watch.

I watched the Metro and Country trial games and the Suns and Oakleigh game this week which I had to do notes for, I watched parts of Calder v Tasmania as well as watching the replay of my own team play against Brisbane.

It’s a lot of football to watch so I would say my best viewings of those interstate players will be through the championships which will show the best players from those states so I get more relevant information on potential draftees which I wouldn’t get from say an NT vs Tasmania game where realistically a maximum of 5 players over the two sides could be draftable.

Also I don’t rely on stats for my ratings I have to see the players perform with my own eyes to have an informed opinion on them.

Mills is a back, blakey a goal kicking forward.
Swans need another JPK in the next 2 years.
I still think you may need to look a little closer at their academy prospects.

Do you rate any of the following Academy products who are doing well in the NAB League - Barling, Delahunty, Budarick, Gore or Reville

Im glad

Tbh, im not up to speed with Gore or Reville, so won't even try and make comment.
Budarick I have seen play, and rate him.
Barling is a good mid, but i prefer him as a contested marking medium fwd. He has good hands and a lovely boot.
Delahunty has a lovely boot too, crashes packs but can drift in and out of games.
GCS's Ace, Swan's Watling, Thorne and Mcgrath are also very draftable through the midfield.
They just don't always accumulate numbers that go on the stats sheet, but they are all over the 1%ers and play a team brand of football that allows others to.
I find it difficult to understand how a draft board can be put together without watching all teams/all players.

That would be impossible

There are probably many kids that could be drafted from the northern states but with the academy system Vic , SA and Wa teams don’t waste their time on them as they have to bid on the player and still may not get him.

Who caught your eye in the oakleigh suns game
Most players performed as expected, Hewago looked very good and certainly went up in my standings, Budarick a tough one to rate given his size but liked him aswell as I did last year.

That is unfortunate for the players and the AFL in general. Lots missed because tge focus is on the assumed talent base

For mine he is exactly the type Melbourne needs and at the moment Ash is a top 10 prospect so I didn’t see it as a massive stretch at this stage.
:( He's exactly what the Lions need as well.

I understand it's just a bit of fun. Would be very happy with either Hayden Young or Lachlan Ash in the real thing.

Why would the swans want another two little guys when the need an imposing, physical inside mid?
Would you be upset if Serong was a better version of Lachie Neale who could also go forward and kick goals?

Happy to have any quality.
But, if we cant extract the ball, or tie up the opposition from going fwd, makes no sense.

Was hoping to see Robertson from WA play, overall pretty unassuming games from the interstate players I haven’t been able to watch this year.

SA
Stephens was solid but not outstanding
Gould solid but didn’t get much of it
Pickett looked really lively
Mead was great in the first half and my favourite from the SA players

WA
Jackson was only ok, some good ruck work and ran well across the ground but didn’t have much impact
Sharp did some nice things but also rushed his kicking at times

NT
Rosas didn’t do much until the last quarter where he showed his talent with 2 goals, raw prospect

QLD
Budarick down back for something different, competed well
Martyn copped a bad knock early but had a great 2nd half and looked good

NSW
Delahunty provides a good target but doesn’t look very athletic or quick
Green was a fine game, not amazing but still good

TAS
O’Niell really see how light and small he is, was solid

Only two real surprises. Rowell isn't your number 1, and Will Martyn is ahead of Connor Budarick.

Hard to seperate Rowell and Anderson, both to me are the clear top 2.

Martyn’s size gives him the edge at this stage but not much separating them either, like Pie 4 Life im struggling with my rankings every day and it’s hardly clear cut for a lot of them, I think the champs will help sort a few out.

Would be stunned if we pass on the upside of Jeka at 25.
I’d be stunned if he goes top 25 at all at this stage, for me he hasn’t done enough yet to be considered that high and even puting him at 29 seemed a bit early it’s only because Collingwood really need key position players and he was best available.

green at 10? Best inside mid
Jackson best ruck over bryan?
Jeka top 30 at all I don't rate him one bit

Rowell and Anderson have claims as best inside mid for me

Jackson has showed more over a period so the better test for me to choose between the two would be the champs

Well I don’t have Jeka top 30 for my personal rankings, had him at 29 for pies rolling mock but that’s purley for best key position player available and pies are crying out for more developing depth there.

What clubs need outside mids this year eDPS
Every team could use quality outside depth, quality outside players are harder to find than quality inside players.

Really depends on what type of outside mid whether a better skilled or quicker player is preferred. Teams like Melbourne, Essendon and Brisbane could use more depth in that area.

Port could use outside or general running mids without being desperate for them

Adelaide desperately need outside or running mids. Shouldn’t need to reach for one with their first, they have 2 good 2nd rounders to look for them, although expect the top running mids to be gone by then.

Rowell is the best inside midfielder, comfortably.

There’s more to it than contested possessions and clearances.

Rowell might be the best two way midfielder we’ve seen in around 15 years.
