Kid has heart is literally a taller Robertson from last draft, his only down fall is his disposal, and if you watch his kicking technique it is very awkward
Probably the only thing holding him back although the very best mids in the game aren’t the best because they are great kicks

So what has caused Blake rise up your rankings?
He hasn’t really risen that much, was always there abouts for me. Just thinking more about the way he plays and watching him again in the all-stars game.

Don’t see why he can’t reach the levels of say Liam Henry. Would love to see him used on the wing or even in the guts as I feel he could really surprise playing those roles.

He’s got a bigger frame than his brother, so physically it will be interesting to see how he develops.

Still surprised at the non (top 20) rating of Finlay Macrae.

Macrae along with about 10 others is still there abouts, really want to see him go big on the inside as I don’t think his athletic profile will do him good at the next level playing mostly outside.

If he shows an ability to really make a difference as an inside midfielder he will shoot up.

I can’t find it now, but ran across it the other night, the 2017 school boy metro zone U15 teams. Eddie Ford was listed at 155cm.

Tried looking for it again, and can’t find it.
Yeah finding those can be a chore, not hard to find last years though and I have that saved now for future reference aswel

Knowing the profile of the type of kids our recruiters prefer to draft, Conole will draft Tanner Bruhn if he’s available at our first pick.

And Gold Coast will draft Macrae, and they’ll just keep adding to the number of kids I liked in their draft year.

Any real word on how/if the National U18 and U16 will be played? Has ot been mentioned anywhere? Obviously states had named their U18 academies so those age groups have some direction, but it is the U16 (2004 born) which potentially have the biggest gap on the talent pathway.

Don’t think a 16s comp will go ahead personally, if the 18s Comp is done it’s more likely very late in the year

Won't Dudley be a small forward?
He has also played as a small defender, SA don’t have many quality small defenders but they could always use him forward or on a wing if they need to.

Is there any reason Will Phillips is not Top 3? I know he is a bit small but captain material, endurance king, ball magnet...surely this would be what lots of lowly ranked clubs would be looking for?

He doesn’t have the same upside as others, he was top 3 not long ago and could easily get back up there, it’s very close in that top 10.

What type are you looking for at the top of the draft, a Lachie Neale type, or a Clayton Oliver or Dusty Martin type?

I think recruiters will look highly at demonstrated consistency, leadership and endurance early on as those qualities typically translate to low risk but still reasonably high return. I feel Phillips deserves on revealed form so far to be in that space ahead of some of the players with slightly higher ceilings but also higher risk.

Neale and Oliver didn't demonstrate some of those qualities pre-draft and hence they didn't go that high; Martin was pretty consistent and went close to top 3 range but probably had a few queries against character.

But that's just my view - was looking for other thoughts with reasoning.....

Oliver went pick 4.

Rayner went at pick 1, and he was definitely drafted on flashes of brilliance, with a well documented lack endurance and little consistency.

The knock on Neale was he was short and not fast. He was pretty consistent across his top age year. Very similar to James Worpel. Except for the height difference.

I feel like if we get some underage footy in, there’s a number of midfield types who could go above Phillips, if they have reasonable performances.

Players like O’Driscoll and Archie Perkins.

Even a player like Eddie Ford, he has the attributes that if he puts it all together, and shows he’s able to play at a high level with some consistency just through a game or two, he could go high.

It’s typically easier to find your Will Phillips types later in the draft, than it is to find your big bodied mid with top end speed, or your tall power and burst mid types.
