If the pies are offering 16 and next years first the bombers would surely do that deal for pick 8 on draft night with the promise of not bidding on Reef at 6 or 7...Dodoro is probably holding out for 14 to be part of the deal aswell.. Think the Pies will get a pick in the top 10 before the draft or on the night and get a pick In prior to Reef being bid on..
Yeah that convo might take place. Probably dont want to give them to much idea of our plans or they might manoeuvre their picks to avoid losing them before a bid. Trading for their future 1st should be one of our main priorities IMO.

Any chance Thilthorpe is dropping to the crows current pick 9 or whatever it ends up based on rankings?
I don’t think so, I have him at 6 myself and I think that’s the latest he goes. If he makes it to that Essendon pick I’d expect Essendon to hold him to ransom for clubs like yours to trade overs for but he fits Essendons needs so I really can’t see him going any later than that even with the OP concerns.

Good man..we have a rogue on our board that seems to think he is a Monty to be there at the crows pick 9..I think he is criminally underrated by some Adelaide fans and would not surprise if he is called out at crows pick 1 (or 2 if they bid on JUH)

Disclaimer: like 99% of us I’m going off highlights only.

But based on his highlights, he looks like an absolute superstar in the making. His athleticism is out of this world for a bloke that size and he looks a great contested mark. I’d be happy with him at 1.

I'm fully on board the Hollands at #1 train. Get the best player at the top, then target Thilthorpe in a trade up.

If Phillips and Grainger-Barras are off the board, Gold Coast should try to get a future pick out of Adelaide to swap 5 and 9. Suns can pick up Bruhn or Powell, or alternatively take whoever of Reid, Cox and Chapman is still available. Everyone wins, except Essendon.

I am lucky enough to have seen him play league for Westies a couple of times and he was good. I have been keen on him for pick 1 for us for quite some time and if he falls a bit further down the order whoever gets him will be getting a super prospect

How does essendon lose? We aren’t targeting thilthorpe

nothing really changes for us.

Pick 5 is one to watch.
If Thilthorpe is there, expect the Crows & Freo to go for the pick
If it's Phillips, any number of clubs would be thinking there's a Rowell-type there.
In the unlikely chance it's DGB, i would expect the Pies to go hard...or even try anyway and look to whatever options are there (Thilthorpe, Cox, Perkins, Reid....a number who would be on our radar that they may want)

Ablett was very good

yea the knock on Kevin Sheehan is that he seems to like everyone, even in the 90's when he was commentating on the draft on TV, back when it was on TV, he would talk up every prospect even if they went pick 80+, he never gives a balanced perspective, he just talks up their pros never mentioning their cons or if they are bust potential, but a lot of "journalists" do that.

Yeah I don’t think he’s allowed to say kids are bust potential as the head of afl talent pathways 😂. He obviously has the kids he rates highly, but he’s not going to talk down kids he doesn’t rate as highly to the media.

A good chance Phillips and Campbell end up in the top five. Of the other five, McDonald, JUH and Hollands most likely to go top three. If Crows don't pick Thilthorpe, he could sneak outside the top five (but could also go to the Hawks). Of that group, he and DGB are probably the most likely to slip out, Thilthorpe given the injuries is one tipped to be overlooked for those top few.

A couple of those teams are seriously considering Phillips. Not as much North, but certainly the other two. The news is constantly changing, but once we put it all together we will have a Phantom Draft which could well settle down the order from our side of things.

I find this interesting - DGB and Thilthorpe are my personal preferences for the Hawks’ pick 4

it would be more valuable to clubs if he were allowed to comment on bust potential, i think so anyways

He may talk to clubs, but he definitely isn’t saying it to the media. It be like mick turner coming and saying he doesn’t rate one of his falcon boys, he might tell clubs behind closed doors but he isn’t saying it in the public domain.

i wonder if coaches are honest about their players, i guess some are, but i would guess most tow the club line that all of their players are amazing so that their club has more AFL recruits, theres a lot of bias and vested interest in only talking positively about prospects, im sure AFL clubs have to use intuition and a lot of research behind the scenes to get real info about prospects.

an example was back in 2005 draft, Hawthorn took Xavier Ellis at pick 3, apparently a lot of people behind the scenes knew he was lazy and didnt like to train ect ect, but they all said Hawthorn never contacted them, be it teachers or local club coaches ect and he turned out to be very disappointing (im sure his TAC Cup head coach said he was a great kid that trains the house down), things have changed, but maybe not as much as you think from 15 years ago? thats why there are top 10 busts every now and then, clubs lack of due diligence can be a factor sometimes.
