I've always been meaning to check him out. A few friends have raved about him, and I became a little more curious after I heard he killed himseld )last year?).

Then I was going through some CD's last night and found one of his songs 'Behind The Bars' on there and instantly loved it.

What else should I check out? Is there any favourite songs?

his song was on the film good will hunting, he was of a rare breed of artist, exceptionally talented and has joined better company on the other side, ironically.

Yes, now I remember it. I think it was the scene where Will was with Skyla in her dorm room. I had a sense of deja vu when I heard it last week.

Unbelievalble talent, terrific lyricist,
wonderful melodies and harmonies,
sang in a whisper.

He made the sort of albums you would play from start to finish,
Was a kind of anti hero, who took the pi$$, and hated his fame.

XO, Figure 8 and From a Basement on the Hill,
showed what he was capable of.

http://www.elliottsmith.com/ is a good start
however
http://www.sweetadeline.net/multimedia.html
is a terrfic source of rm player appearances SNL, Conan,
and promo videos (Son of Sam, Miss Misery)

Needle In the Hay is one of my favourite songs.

Clementine is great also. Very depressing music though, don't listen to it on a comedown.

Songs, god where do yo u start.

Apart from his more noted waltz#2, Baby Britain,
probably, tomorrow tomorrow, pitseleh, bled white, son of sam,
in the lost and found,
easy way out, wouldn't mama be proud, color bars, pretty ugly

The accapella "i didn't understand" at the end of XO.

Good to pop on after 10 pints, not 20 or you are looking for sharp things.

Personally i love 'Angeles', 'Say Yes' and 'Strung Out Again'.

Of his albums, 'Either/Or' would be my favourite.

Bresh got me on to his music and i love it. His work fitted really well in Good Will Hunting (one of my favourite films) too.
