Didnt expect that.

No BnFs and no AAs means he wont be remembered outside of SA as highly as he should be, and hell always suffer that terminal underrated stigma but in my opinion hes the most consistently good player the Crows have ever had. Prior to this year, he just never played a bad game. Whether in the midfield or playing a role elsewhere, hes had a bloody good career and will go down as one the best and most consistent smalls SA has produced.

TLF8 - could it be Edwards was told he was going to be dropped - which lets face it, EVERY man and his dog have been calling for it for WEEKS - and instead of going back to the SANFL to fight his way back into the team, he's decided to call it a day. It's HIS decision. I'm sure the Club didn't want it to end this way.

I agree with this, at 33 turning 34 you can't really blame Tyson for not having the desire to go back to the SANFL and try and find some form to fight his way back into the team.

I also suspect that one or two of our senior players were talked into staying this year so maybe Edwards leaving is also a reflection of someone who was asked to stay on this year when really they were only half hearted about playing on.

Thanks for the memories Tyson, you were / are a champion player.

I agree with many sentiments on this thread, it is a shame that Tyson Edwards didn't get to play one last home game as a fitting send off.

F!ck, it is not like we are going to play in the finals, so letting him play one last game won't hurt.

very good summation here!

congrats on a good career tyson, thanks for the memories

Well done tyson, thanks for your contribution to our club.

Lets not guess, wait til the press conference.

Maybe he didnt even want a token game.

Im shocked that its immediate

Interesting comments in here. First many posters have been claiming that the coach is too attached to the older players. Our season is over, we should be blooding the younger players and looking to the future. Then this happens and it is all again the coachs fault. Which one is it guys?

All the best to Tyson. It is sad not to see him play another game, but it really had passed him by. Just like we had no idea that Darren Jarman had retired either. Not everyone gets or wants a farewell game.

He has been a great player for our club over the years and I have appreciated his contribution. Dual premiership player. Not many can say they have done that. Well done Zooma!

Apparantley was told he was on the cusp on the starting 22 this week, definetley in the 25 but no gurantees. Then a farewell game against Freo was discussed, but he turned that down. He would have been the travelling emergency this week.

One of my favourite non Carlton players :thumbsu:

I have vague memories of him starring in the prelim against Collingwood until bloody J Cloke murdered him and ensured Collingwood's spot in the GF. Sickening.

All the best to him, been a great player over many years :thumbsu:

Any chance David Parkin gets, he talks him up. Same with Healy. He will be remembered by those whose opinions I do actually like to listen to, but you are spot on in this observation Macca.

Harper also said if he was going to be dropped this week, he didn't want to get in the way of younger players coming in. The selfless Edwards we all know right there.:thumbsu:

Phil Harper said Edwards asked for a farwell game against the Dockers.

He was told that couldn't be guaranteed, and woulf be form based, but he'd get one before the year is out, Tyson then said he'd rather pull up stumps now.

Sounds like he wanted a farewell game guaranteed, Craig wanted to but couldnt. What if we win by 20 goals this week, who do you drop. Cant blame Craig for that. So he pulled the pin now.

So we pretty much cant dispute that we screwed up the list management at the end of the season now can we?

One the one hand, I thought that Edwards, Hentschel and Burton should have been delisted years ago. On the other, the other delistings we made were all spot on and I also don't feel like we needed to go any deeper into the draft than we did.

Sounds like he wanted to bow out gracefully instead of being dropped and being a borderline player when a younger player could have his spot in the side.

All the best Tyson... you will be missed! A genuine champion of the club!:thumbsu:

Clubs approach was:
Option 1 - from the crows was for Edwards to play to the end of the year but he said he felt like he was standing in the way of other kids.
Option 2 - They then asked whether he wanted to do a farewell game vs freo but it was edwards' call to not have it.

He may have a lap of honour at the freo game though.

Well, can we stop slinging mud at the club then? Don't know how much more they could have done really....?
