From the report below,(taken from a well known Bomber book) in which year is this EFC Grand Final played....

Choose from all 16:)

1897,1901,1911,1912,1923,1924,1942,1946,1949,1950,1962,1965,1984,1985,1993 or 2000?

The Dons were being beaten around the packs and although they had the wind, they were powerless to do anything about the paralysing onslaught.

It was probably the most sensational display of confident and aggressive football ever seen in a finals match.

There had never been a grand final performance like it.

the Dons led by ____ points at 3qtr time and it was no wonder supporters gave them a standing ovation.
that line would suggest we lost

In this grand final,Essendon got smashed early in the first qrt but fought back with a flurry of goals and at qtr time, the two teams had kicked more than 10 goals between them:)

Well, it's not 1897 or 1924, as there weren't Grand Finals in either season.
The very early GFs, the two sides together wouldn't have kicked 10 goals fior the game, and it doesn't sound like any of the 4 I've seen, so I'll go for 1946 against Melbourne.

1946....73,743 people piled into the MGC to watch Essendon vs Melbourne. Bombers fans watched in horror as the Dee's pumped through 5 goals in the first 8 minutes of the first qtr.But by the time the qtr time bell rang,Dons fans were happier with the score - 7.2 to the Demon's 8.3.

The third qrt saw the Dons pile on 11 goals in 20 minutes. The Bombers led by 64 points at 3qtr time and the crowd gave them a standing ovation.

They went on to win the game comfortably by 63 points.Final, scores,Essendon 22.18(150) to Melbourne 13.9(87)

The Premieship team was..

Backs..L.Gardiner C.Ruddell P.Bushby

H.Tonkes W.Buttsworth H.lambert

G.Hassell W.Pearson A.Harper

H.Equid G.Lane R.Reynolds

R.McClure W.Brittingham K.Rawle

Foll- G.Abbott J.Cassin
Rov- Bill Hutchison

This Premiership was the true start of Essendon's40's and 50's Golden Era. D1ck Reynolds said after the match "this is the best Essendon side of I have ever played with" They destroyed the Dees with ruthless displays of skill and pace.

Many of these names have appeared in the questions over the past weeks. These guys are the ones who put this club on the map and gave us our identity (that of a successful powerful club). Not that it showed at the time in the EFC accounting books. But thats another story.

The Dons went on to win more GFs and lose a few too in the next 20 years, but men like Hutchison,Cassin,Buttsworth,Lane,Equid and Reynolds made this club what it is today....The Essendon Football Club:thumbsu: :)

Mate, Im dead set going to email the Bombers through their website and see if there's a spot for you to post some of these questions throughout the season. Im really impressed with the cryptic clues, and the diversity of your questioning. For the record, I dont think Ive been close to getting any right, but I get a kick out of reading them. :thumbsu:

OPEN LETTER TO WEBMASTER@ESSENDONFC.COM.AU

Hi there,

Firstly, I'd like to begin by commending you on a fantastic site. It truly rivals any club site of any sporting code throughout the world and I consistently use this as a source of any information regarding our beloved club.

The reason I'm writing to you is a suggestion or recommendation of sorts.

On the BigFooty site, in particular the Essendon thread, we have a thread called EFC Cryptic Challenge Thread which is usually run by a poster by the name of 'Nobby8'.

What I'm getting at is the way this guy compiles his questions are so diverse and well thought out, that one cant help, but admire the way he sources his information.

What I'm proposing is possibly having him post some brainbusters or hosting his own little link from the site to dazzle Bomber fans and AFL fans alike with his brand of quizzing.

I genuinely think it would greatly benefit the site and showcase some of the intelligence that lies inside our fanbase.

I sincerely hope this email reaches you and you genuinely consider this proposal. I think this fan deserves his 15 minutes of fame.

Regards

Hope I havent gone over your head, mate...but you're doing one hell of a job!! :thumbsu: Havent given any personal details, but I think you should share this knack you have ;)

yess, now will be champion:p

It just cracked me up before to read crave's post about the EFC site. I was actually going to make it my last Cyrptic clue. because, honestly,I've run out of questions:D .

My brain is fried from all the players names and I can't remember who I've done and who I havn't.
All i have left,is pick the GF!:p

I made the 1946 GF as a kind of swan song cause I reckon its one of the best Premierships or the most important flag in our clubs history.

Now i don't know what to say.

Now I know how longy felt when that Where's Longy413 Gone?" thread title came up.

There's a new one coming out next year. Even bigger than Flying Higher(which is a 540 odd page monster).More old photos and they are calling for anyone with old EFC photos of any kind to send them in.The club scans them and sends them back:thumbsu:

The other little fact finder i use is the
Encylopedia of AFL Footballers-Essendon version
