Can you offer me an example where a prime player nominated to go to the wooden sooners & a charity trade was done?

Prime players just don't choose to play for bottom sides (here's hoping we are an outlier) , and free agency & player association threats have seen to it that they tend to get their way these days.

Mason Shaw has been mentioned on occasion around here, got 3 goals 3 on the weekend from 14 disposals and 6 marks. If you're ridiculously keen, he can be seen (he's no. 22) here: https://au.tv.yahoo.com/plus7/wafl/...day-30-jul-south-fremantle-vs-east-fremantle/

I skim watched it over half an hour or so. Cliff notes:
Earlyish - Couple of nice kicks to help set up play
42 mins - Pack mark. Missed set shot from 50 on an angle. Bad side for right footer.
49 - mark on lead, misses set shot from 50, somewhat straight in front.
1 hour 10 mins - gets a mark on his own after oppo turnover. Goal from set shot on 45 degree angle.
1 hour 51 - stands up in tackle, bananas from 45 but misses.
2 hour 4 - Outbodies opponent, drops mark/spoiled by teammate, follows up, handballs to teammate, gets it back, then gives himself a second, bananas from boundary for a goal. Pretty bloody good moment, and happens to come when game is on the line.
2 hour 19 - bad turnover from oppo sees his team break through, Shaw gets a mark on the line just about, goals.

Not the sort of game that will make you think we need to draft him, but there's a fair bit to like. His main issues at Port seemed to be around injury (although I'm sure there were other reasons too) but that appears to be behind him this year since he's played 16 games and 34 goals.

He's the sort of state-league player worth looking at because he's still very young (he's 23 next year), fits a need, still has a lot of development left in him since he hasn't quite filled out (he's big, but in an AFL environment and being injury-free he'll be able to get stronger) and would more likely than not cost only a late/rookie pick.

Even more reason for GWS to get him for nothing so you make a fair argument. Killer pic too. Guess the only consideration is the GWS signed 2 Swans (Lamb PSD).
But the important thing is that GWS leveraged their position.

Lamb never really excited me but a free hit at a former first round draft pick for nothing because of the PSD would be handy. and they probably knocked 50% off Mummy's asking price in the end because of the threat of the psd

I was thinking IF Hurley AND Hibberd both go how do we get in the best position to re-invigorate our list?

A possible and semi-realistic way I see it is:
Hurley to the dogs for their R1 + R2 (say pick 13+31) and swap 2017 ESS R3 for WB R2 (WB get Hurley for a R1 pick + R2 pick and a pick downgrade)
Hibberd to Melbourne for R2 pick (say pick 25) and possibly a 2017 R4 pick.

Then we trade:
Picks 19,25,31,37 (2822 points) to GWS for picks 8 & 16 (2618 points) (GWS do this because basically they are just targetting academy picks and 204 free points is a good get)
Picks 1, 55 and WB 2017 R2 pick(approx 3770 points) to GC for picks 4 & 7 (3678 points). GC get pick 1 to use on player before Brodie pick plus extra points in 55 plus start stockpiling picks in case of next year academy picks.

This gives us picks:
4, 7, 8, 13, 16, 73

Assuming Prestia goes to either Carlton or Richmond for their first round pick, I see the draft order at the end of the year therefore being something like (not including bids for GWS players):

1) Gold Coast: Brodie
2) Gold Coast: Bowes (Matching Brisbane's bid and using pick gained from Richmond/Carlton (5th/6th pick) + one of their 2nd rounders)
3) Brisbane: SPS
4) Fremantle: Marshall
5) Essendon: McCluggage
6) Richmond/Carlton: Ainsworth
7) Essendon: McGrath
8) Essendon: Venables
9) Port Adelaide: Gallucci
10) St Kilda: Simpkin
11) North Melbourne: English
12) West Coast: Rotham
13) Essendon: Toranto
14) Adelaide: Scharenberg
15) Sydney: Scrimshaw
16) Essendon: Battle
...
73) Essendon: Walla upgrade.

Giving us something along the lines of McCluggage/Marshall, McGrath, Venables, Toranto, Battle.
While also maintaining our 1st and 2nd rounders next year.

Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer Hurley and Hibberd to stay but I think this would really help re-invigorate our list if they were to go.

Problem is there are literally no quality FA-KPF's available. Whether we keep Pick 1 or trade it I'll back the club in,

I'd then even look to combine say #17 and #19 for another pick inside the top 10 by trading with GCS (if they'd stop being so difficult to deal with) and do the following:
ESS out/GCS in: Pick 17 + Pick 19 + Pick 37 + Pick 53 + Pick 55 [2896 points]
GCS out/ESS in: Pick 4 + Pick 24 (via RICH) [2819 points]

That would then give us: #4, #7, #16, #24, #73, #91 & #109. This then gives us 2 top 10 picks again and 4 inside the top 25. Then we bank those picks, take the best available with the first two (for arguments sake lets say SPS at #4 and Venables at #7), say Battle with #16 and Kerr with #24, Dea with #73 (if we have to draft him, still dunno what the AFL's rules are regarding top-up player retention) and upgrade Walla with #91.

That is pretty complex though lol so it might not work so well in practice.
Why would we do that deal? I don't understand why would we give up pick 4 for nothing

We have Parish, Merrett and eventually Langford and Laverde as goal-kicking mids. You can't have too many of them but I don't think it's a huge need.
I would have to disagree on Merrett he has kicked 6 goals 5 all year thats 11 shots on goal in 18 matches, we haven't scored heavily this year so that may well change next year but averaging 30 touches a game he is having less than 1 shot per game. I believe he can become that player with better support around the ball, but this year i haven't seen it.

Parish and Laverde have the scope and i dont see Langford as a midfielder
