I'd be keen to roll the dice on butcher. Come cheap as chips be a mature body and hopefully provide some selection pressure if not be best 22 and move Carlisle forward. At the very least he is a forward through and through, not just a backman convert.

The fact that he didn't come in this week when they have 4 KPP's is damning

It is but that's why we could get him cheaply. Clearly its not great be isn't getting a game but I'd prefer someone with a few years in the afl system and has had good games at afl. To taking a vfl player who probably won't be close to afl fitness. Again I think we would all prefer patton etc but I think we all agree next year we need to draft in a key forward and also look at trading in or draft a mature one too.

Its not a question of which KPF's or players in general that we could get cheaply, what we need is a KPF who can kick straight (something that Butcher can't seem to do, and from what I've read a fair few people doubt he has what it takes to make it at the top tier). The guys that we should be targetting are Membrey (Sydney) and Jaksch (GWS).
As far as drafting goes why wait till next year to bring in a KPF when we should be looking to bring one in now? Apart from that the other whole that needs filling is another goal-kicking in-and-under type mid/HFF.

Sorry I meant to say this year for drafting. And look the more options the better but worse case scenario I'd be happier with butcher than a state league player or none at all

I wouldn't have concerns about drafting a young forward.

Ambrose is looking more the forward each game (some really strong marks in the last few weeks, including getting the ball closer to goal to add to the rest of his game). At this rate he will start 2015 as a genuine AFL tall forward as opposed to just being an enthusiastic brute.

Daniher will be a third year player which will probably give him strength and endurance enough to get another shot or two on goal/big mark a game that he is currently missing (the domination is still probably 2 years away).

Early as it is to be making calls, Carlisle is starting to come good as a forward. Like it or not the dilemma will continue to present itself next year as it is almost certain that Fletcher will go on.

Bellchambers should be around and will be capable from the square.

The timing is right to invest in a quality young forward who can be fed into the side in the next few years.

I still think its worth it atm we really have 1 proven key forward on the list in joey and even thats a bit of a long shot considering how young he is. I'd be drafting an inside mid first up then looking at a key forward and a ruck

U18 All Aus team is out:

FB: Harrison Wigg (SA) Caleb Marchbank (VC) Josh McGuinness (Tas)
HB: Darcy Tucker (VC) Ed Vickers-Willis (VC) Angus Brayshaw (VM)
C: Paul Ahern (VM) Christian Petracca (VM) Billy Stretch (SA)
HF: Jayden Laverde (VM) Darcy Moore (VM) Callum Mills (NSW/ACT)
FF: Rhys Mathieson (VC) Patrick McCartin (VC) Caleb Daniel (SA)
R: Peter Wright (VM) Isaac Heeney (NSW/ACT) Jake Johansen (SA)

I: Jack Steele (NSW/ACT) Connor Blakely (WA) Darcy Parish (VC) Ben Keays (QLD)

Bolded are underagers and McGuinness is a 19 year old (who by the way i think would be a really good addition. Reminds me a bit of Hibberd without the mongrel).

Twomey's done profiles on all 22 here

Is Harrison Wigg that neat really really good user and kick, who did the kick outs for SA? Jack Package
Wigg did some, if not most. He's good, wouldn't say he was outstanding though.

The one that really surprises me is Vickers Willis, he's a back flanker who has a really awkward kicking action.

I'd be making a young KPF (and a young ruck men) keys for us in this draft period.

Twomey:

A versatile tall, Goddard struggled to reach his best for Vic Country through the championships. He couldn't find space on the lead as a forward at first, and didn't fit right in when moved to defence. But he finished on a better note, playing well as a backman against WA. When on song, Goddard is comfortable flying for marks, competing hard and fighting for possession.

Don't like the sound of that.

Can anyone elaborate? It is a pace/mobility thing or a structure thing?

I am working on the assumption that we will be looking as we seem to love the friend/family connections especially where it fits in with an attitude and personality that are the right place.

I actually saw Goddard in a game maybe two years (a while ago but I was there seeing Derp).

Had strong hands, a nice kick, big bodied for a 16 year old..

Played forward that day but got the impression he would be better in defence.

He's terrible in defence. Would much prefer seeing him in the forward 3rd of the ground

Goddard is definitely going high IMO, don't think he'll slip outside top 10. Even if he underperformed, he has a beautiful kicking action, incredible calmness on the ball, and is almost perfect in size and proportions for a swingman.
