If we were to get picks 5 and 7, would anybody have a problem with trading one of them for Darling? We could see a draft order of:

1. Gold Coast: Bowes
2. GWS: McGrath
3. Brisbane: Petrevski-Seton
4. Fremantle: McCluggage
5. Essendon: Brodie
6. West Coast: English

That would be a great get for us.
I have Darling at 10-15 range, maybe we could squeeze a late round pick from WCE as well. Other than that im a fan.
This board is very split on the Darling topic though

You have to pay overs to get a contracted player normally.

I think we have enough of the third tall types that can play forward in Langford, Francis, Lav and possibly even Redman. I would rather take both picks and use them on mids, Brodie and Taranto with 5 and 7 would be a good result. Can't have enough quality mids in your team, just look at Sydney, Bulldogs and GWS.

The problem I see with that is that I reckon they'll all end up being midfielders. Plus Darling is a 40 goal/year key forward. We haven't had one of those until this year for yonks.

I see it the other way, I doubt all of them will end up as full time mids. But let's just wait to see if Darling even requests a trade, seems very unlikely that he would want to leave.

Dunno if it's been discussed on here before, but if we turn 1 into 2 top 10s, why not offer the later of the picks for Rockliff?
He's only 27 next so still has 4/5 years left
Then we can go for say SPS at pick 5 assuming he slides and add a quality ball user and an inside bull in Rockliff

Show us a pic of the Saint's cabinet.
Looked very bare. If you really want it, I am going back there soon.

A couple of young Hawks supporters were giving the Bulldogs kids a hard time saying that Hawthorn should rightfully
be in the Grand Final, not the Bulldogs..... and look at your 1 Cup Cabinet. And the Bulldog kid with no front teeth
responded.... "your club is finished, your players are too old..."

Reinforced how nice it is NOT to have Hawthorn in the Grand Final. Even their kids are cocky little smart #rses.

If have a big problem with it

Darling is over rated.

On our list already we have Francis, hooker, jobe, t bell, daniher, brown who can all fill a contested forward role. Add Langford typpa Laverde fanta to that and we have a pretty dynamic set of forward options

I'm a fan of wanting hooker and hurly back but would be very interested to see Hartley trained and tried forward as I reckon his attributes would allow him to be a very effective forward.

We have the luxury of experimenting with that given 2 returning aa full key backs.

We are also highly likely to draft a key forward type - battle etc

2 top 7 picks in a draft where u can throw a blanket over the top 10 is priceless for our list development.

When Hartley was interviewed, he said that he has learnt to play tight and spoil his opponent but
needs to add the extra dimension to his game, including intercept and contested marks and creating more
run.

Hooker is the complete package. He is ready made to move forward. He even came to Essendon as a forward.

We've had one of the worst performing forward lines over the last few years.
Our I50 to scoring opportunity rate would have to be close to the worst in the league over that period.

You can argue whether Darling is worth it or not, but I think our forward line is far from set

I agree that we need another goalkicker, but my concern is team balance. We've had lean times in the draft and when we've got back in we've (rightly) gone for utility/mid types (langers, lav, Francis) in our early picks.
If we pick up another third forward type I think we'll be missing out on higher priorities. I think we still need a quality mid, slingshot back and a stay at home small forward. I reckon it's the perfect draft for these types so my vote is keeping picks.

Quote from Bulldogs site...

... they believe he is a Jake Stringer type.... you can see some sign of it in is highlights,
particularly the frontal push off...

"Venables is an absolute game breaker switching between forward and mid.
Thinking about how dynamic he'd be in our team with Stringer, is next level."

He does look as strong as an ox.

I'm not at all saying our forward line is set. Far from it in fact. What I am saying is that from a current personal perspective it's pretty good and there's multiple options.

I'm also very much a believer that the functionality and effectiveness of a forward line is extremely reliant on what's happening up the ground.

Darling for 7 would be big overs for mine but each to their own.

I don't disagree that it would be great to have hooker forward.

I just think he is a better back and like the idea of playing 2 of the proven best key defenders in the game in defence.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see hartly tried forward. Mark Harvey actually made some commentary around this prior to the Carlton game.

You are dreaming if you expect Brodie to be available at 5.

On Draft night it will be like needing to depend on somebody else losing for us to get into the finals.

We will be the first team in history since the Fremantle debacle to hand across #1.
Would rely on 2 things.
1-Brisbane bid on Bowes. I think this happens 100% if they get Pick 3 as a priority. I think it 70/30 if they only have 2.
2-Freo go tall instead of a mid. 50/50 chance of this happening, but English and Marshall would be attractive to them.

As unlikley as it is, the way i see the draft panning out in the above scenario is:
1-McGrath (GWS)
2-Bowes (GCS - bid match)
3-SPS (BL)
4-Marshall (Freo)
5-Brodie or McCluggage (Ess)
6-Whoever doesnt go at 5 (Carl)
7-Ainsworth (Rich)

How do we trade down to 5 and carlton get pick 6?

I thought we'd take Carltons 5 if GWS can secure it in a trade.
Richmond hold 6 which will probs be traded to GC for Prestia
and we have GWS pick 7 via Collingwood
Not to mention if GC have to match the bid on Bowes at pick 2 the pick 6 would probably be downgraded and our 7 would turn into 6
