- O'Meara's not coming here via the PSD

If he nominates us, a fair deal for both sides will eventuate.
I respect your post, but I do disagree. Consider the following:

1) GCS passed up an offer on Cale Hooker (plus a pick) for Caddy. That's not only more than fair, that's 'overs'.
2) The rest of the comp hasn't been fair to us. They've tried luring all our good players throughout the 2016 season, pretty dirty if you ask me considering the circumstances. We owe our opposition nothing.
3) -IF- JOM nominates us, he could effectively choose not to sign any contract offer coming his way then come to us via the PSD.

I think it's unlikely it will come to that, but you never know I guess. Exciting trade period ahead that's for sure.

In other words, he has no idea and is making assumptions. I'd like to get O'Meara at Essendon, especially through the PSD, but that's pretty much putting words and thoughts into O'Meara based on what Cochrane said.

It's just what Purple would do if he was O'Meara.
I think it's pretty well known in footy circles that JOM is ******* pissed at GC

Do not want to see any trades involving 1,19 and 27 unless it is to get 2 picks inside the top 10. The three picks inside the top 30 give us a chance to grab a classy mid in Mcluggage or Brodie or similar, take a bit of a risk on Battle or Kerr at 19 and still be in the market for another good mid at 27.

To me as good as O'Meara is he has not been on the park for 2 years so if he does not come via the PSD then not interested. There is a very large chance he will not be the player he was. Very very few bounce back to be super stars with the injury history he has had at a young age. Can get back playing but to what level ?

It's not as simple as just targeting guys like Treloar/Adams.

It's not like we went 'stuff Adam Treloar, let's go out and sign James Gwilt instead'.

And let's not forget, we haven't exactly been the most attractive club the past few years.
My Collingwood mate is 100% convinced O'Meara is going to nominate Pies as preferred destination.

How they intend to get him..... only they know...

Jaeger was the most talented junior I've ever seen, if we have any confidence that we can get his knee right then I hope we pick him up.
Not IMO was very good no doubt but i did not see any more in him that i did not see in quite a few at the top level of under 18 footy. He was good but Jack Watts for one had many of the best performances i have seen in under 18 / school footy.
What makes you think we can get his knee right when the GC could not ?

Yup well documented that he was extremely unhappy with the medical/physio department's inability to get him back to full fitness. And after Cochrane's outbursts and the club flinging sh*t at him, it's looking more and more like that O'Meara turns around and says "Get stuffed Suns, you aren't getting anything for me".

Been saying it since it was announced, we have no incentive to trade for him and O'Meara and his management have no reason to help Gold Coast out by agreeing to a trade.

Would be a very very very nice addition to our midfield if we can land him and he gets out on the park. I didnt see him in juniors, but his first 2 years at AFL level were outstanding.

Would package up 26 and 37 to GWS for Pick 15 but yeah that's about it. I'm not prepared to give up Pick 1 for anything less than a super deal (and GWS are the only club capable of offering us that).

Otherwise if we take the picks to the draft it'll be McCluggage at #1, Battle at #19, Clarke (if he's available) at #27, then from there fill needs.

Bit like when they thought they had Hurley in the bag...no clue.

Can anybody name a player that has had 2 years off due to crippling injury and has returned to play top football?

O'Meara originally dislocated his knee......

It was O'Meara's first match back after undergoing patella surgery on both knees in London during the off-season.

.....he ruptured the tendon, he'll have to get that sewn back together.

In 2014 O'Meara battled patella tendinitis in both knees (extremely painful) but still managed to average almost 22 disposals a game for the Suns.

WHAT IS INJURY?

Early 2016 article

In 2015 O’Meara had a rupture (complete tear) of the patella tendon, a critical structure that connects the kneecap to the lower leg. It is essential to provide strength and power to the knee via the quadriceps muscles and when ruptured, a player cannot bear weight or even move the knee. This is an extremely rare injury in the AFL and in recent history only Essendon’s Michael Long (1996) and Adelaide’s Chris Knights (2013) have had similar tears.

HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?

Ruptures occur when a process such as age or injury weakens a tendon. O’Meara had arthroscopic “ shaving” of his patella tendon in London in September 2014 in an attempt to deal with chronic overuse tendon soreness. During a comeback practice game in April 2015 his tendon snapped, suggesting it had not fully recovered.

WHAT IS TREATMENT?

Surgery to repair the torn tendon is always required. Normally the torn ends are directly sewn together. However, in O’Meara’s case the surgeon discovered the tendon was so badly torn that a piece of hamstring tendon was grafted to the front of the knee to augment the repair. This usually means recovery takes longer as the body has to integrate and remodel the hamstring tissue into the repaired patella tendon.

WHEN IS RETURN LIKELY?

Unfortunately O’Meara has required a third operation (arthroscopy) in February 2016 to address ongoing cartilage damage behind his right kneecap. This is typically a sign the patella is not tracking correctly in front of the knee. This causes pressure and breakdown of the sensitive cushioning cartilage protecting the patella bone surface.

His rehabilitation involves focusing on strengthening the knee, improving balance and coordination and gradually building up running, then jumping and kicking skills before attempting match simulation at training. Gym work and physiotherapy sessions make up a big part of his week.

sports where patella tendon ruptures occur more often (NFL, basketball) players can return successfully after surgery at approximately 10-12 months if there are no complications.

WHAT DOES FUTURE HOLD AFTER THIS INJURY?

Jaegar has now had three operations on his right knee in a 17-month period.

O’Meara’s repaired tendon will continue to regain strength and remodel for a period of 2-3 years in total. His most recent surgery setback should see him back to his pre arthroscope training by late April but there remains some doubt over the future health of his kneecap cartilage. His medical and fitness team will continue to monitor his knee soreness and training workload throughout the season.

Gold Coast are optimistic he will play senior games in 2016 but no firm date has been set for his return.

I wonder if this is a way we can strong arm GC into the 1 for 4 and 8 deal.

They said they didn't want to do it previously but if they were to do 1 for 4, 8 and Jeager it's certainly better than nothing and Jaeger gets to his destination of choice faster and in more secure fashion

Pretty much sums up why i would only take him via the PSD.

You would have to look at it, hell you would have to look at 1 & 19 for 4 & 8 and O'meara as you still have 3 picks inside the top 30. I doubt they would consider it but it would be worth offering if we where the club he wanted to go to.

In other words they f***ed up and brought him back too early. Should never have played at all this year.
