I'll put my faith in Worsfold but I'm confused, he's mentioned JOM cos he's in the right age bracket and then he's mentioned McKenzie, Brown and Kelly (deservingly though).

They're all still solid to good footballers but wouldn't have thought in the right age bracket for a 5-6 year sustained premiership contender in 2+ years' time. More like the kind of age that would be looking to finish 5-8 next season.

The O'Meara interest was confirmed by Woosha. As for the others I don't trust Stevens in the slightest, he's wrong every time (pretty sure he just makes stuff up).
I don't buy Ballantyne and Stevens - can't see the need and these are guys you'd only be interested in to fill a specific gap on your list.

Tippa and Fanta seem adequate small forwards, Parish will likely spend more time forward as well (he's pretty handy there). Heppell, Myers, Hocking, Jobe(?) to play as inside bulls.

.....Just don't see a need for these two.

Patton - I can see why we'd be into him, in theory a perfect foil for JD.

Not to do the whole one upping thing, but a Saints board T&D "guru" suggested him for Longer, saying that we need a ruckman.

There's a chance Longer wouldn't even get a gig with our 2nd's, let alone the seniors.
Saints still mad about the buckets deal. Looking for redemption at any opportunity.

I watched some highlights of McLuggage and Brodie.

Luggage has good skill but very slightly built. Brodie is a beast already. A ready made body. We need a replacement for Jobe, he reminds me a lot of him. I am steadfast on getting him over McLuggage.
Why are so many people fixated on Brodie over Cluggage because he is ready made? Surely you take the player who will be the best player in 5 years time?

Still think we could do with another small forward (not Ballantyne though). Fanta will hopefully end up higher up the ground where he can be a very damaging player. You could potentially have Colyer and Fantasia on the wings or play Fantasia high half forward, working back into attacking positions from half back.
Tippa should be pencilled in as a small forward.
Perfect scenario would be to get two picks in the top 10 and use one on Ainsworth. The other one goes on best mid available.

We'll be keeping Pick 1 so no chance unfortunately.

The leader: Andrew McGrath

McGrath stormed up the draft board with a brilliant under-18 championships, and looks destined to be a powerful, quick, tough and smart midfielder. He captained Vic Metro to a winning carnival, was picked in the All Australian team and looks ready to play at the next level.

Recruiter: "His championships was outstanding and he was able to shut down players as well as get heaps of the ball himself. He's got great speed, uses the ball well and obviously is a leader as well. His character is a massive thing and when you're trying to weigh him up against someone else, McGrath would be an easy guy to bring into your club."

If McGrath blitzes the combine, that'd be enough for me to separate him from my other favorites.

My main worry this off season is that we will try and do too much and that it will backfire.

I see 2017 as a transition year for us so I say stock up on draft picks and don't waste picks trading for players that will command a chunk of salary cap space and picks.

The best teams are built through the draft, (Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney), crap teams try and buy their way to the top (North, Richmond, Port).

When you are close to a premiership you bring in the missing pieces, (Collingwood = Jolly)

Allow for the PSD selection (if i have done my calculations correctly - deit. which I don't think I have. Damn retirment of Cooney)

Pick 1 (off sets Jason Ashby delisting)
Pick 19 (off sets Courtney Dempsey delisting)
Pick 26 (off sets Shaun Edwards delisting)
Pick 37 (off sets James Gwilt delisting)
Pick 55 (off sets Nick Kommer delisting)
Pick 73 (off sets Tayte Pears retirement)
Pick 91 (off set by Adam Cooney retirment)
Pick 109 (AMT rookie upgrade)
Pick 127 (Matt Dea free agency recruitment)

So we may very well have one more selection in the National Draft by my list alterations;

1/ McCluggage
19/ Drew
26/ Battle or Kerr
37/ Sam Powell - Pepper
55/ Brandon Parfitt
73/ Small forward who looks a likely type
91/ AMT rookie upgrade

We'll find out soon enough if we're gunning for Stevens and Ballantyne. These guys are rubbish.

Youth and project players for mine.

You have contradicted yourself a little bit there

The best teams finish off by trading in the best pieces.
The good teams build through the draft

Highly recommend watching his game this Sunday would love to see how he goes against a better opposition but that game I saw him play against Bendigo was perfect. 40 touches and was highly productive with those disposals. Best handballer in the draft he has perfect technique. His speed and composure with ball in hand was exceptional he would be running at full pace, fake a few times then release a runner with a perfect handball not only does he win his own footy but he makes sure the player receiving it from him is in a better position than him.

That is about it for me. Had enough of the guys in the later rounds who could play senior football sooner rather than later. Time to develop some good old fashioned project players and back our development coaches in .

The only club that currently has two top 10 selections is Gold Coast, and they've stated publicly multiple times that they have no interest in trading for Pick 1. So yes, at this point in time I know that for sure.
So GC not wanting to trade their picks disallows us from doing another deal involving pick 1?

Agree, Woosha has changed his messages slightly from when he first came to the club. To start with he seemed to be playing the long view, no he's talking about a short turn around. Though I guess by saying he wants to target guys that're U24 means he's after a short turn around that is also allows for sustainable long term success. I'm not too worried, provided we don't go for any of McKenzie, Brown and Ballantyne because we don't need them, or the likes of Vickery, Cloke, Vardy, Reid because they're all relatively useless (to varying degrees).

They've said they are not interested in trading for Pick 1...

If (and its a big if) we send Pick 1 anywhere it'll be to GWS in return for someone like Patton and another top 10 pick.

Sydney are very well known for trading in talent, did you think before including them in that line?
