Gorgeous day. We just voted at our local primary school. We're in the seat of Wills. The amount of Greens people out the front handing out pamphlets. Like a cult !! I'm sick and tired of all the major parties. Voted for true independents below the line for the house of representatives. Enjoy your day folks.

So here’s the story of my voting experience today.

My brother and I took our mum to vote like we always do. We’re obviously not white.

Anyway, we took our papers and went to the booth to vote. My brother and I needed to ask a question, so we went to an AEC worker. My mum stayed behind and waited for us. She tends to vote like we vote anyway because English is her 4th or 5th language and she doesn’t know the smaller parties. To be fair, I sometimes don’t know them either without a Google search.

In comes a guy wearing a MAGA hat. He walked up to the voting booth next to my mum. She told him that someone was there, and directed him to another vacant booth.

This guy got pissed off and started cussing my mum out + saying things like “this is why I’m voting for the opposition, to get you people out”. You know, the standard racist stuff. One thing about my mum is that she’s not afraid of any human stepping to her lol, so she cussed him right back.

I had no idea this was happening because I was busy asking a question to the AEC worker. My brother however and saw this happening. So he went straight back. He saw the MAGA guy cussing my mother and stepped in. He told the MAGA guy to take his ass to another booth.

The funny thing is that this MAGA guy ended up complying. He stopped his cussing and took his voting papers to a booth far from our booth. He was acting all tough to my 157cm mother in her 60s but lost all that energy

I only saw the part where my mother was telling him the booth was occupied. But I didn’t notice the altercation at all for some strange reason. I lose awareness when I’m hyper-focused on something lol.

What a dumbass coward lol. My brother and I aren’t even that big/imposing (we’re 6ft). We’re not aggressive nor intimidating, yet he still cowered away lol. What are the chances that he talks tough on the internet?

But honestly, this is why we go with her. I don’t want her to come across people like this without us being there.

I'm in Isaacs so my vote never matters. When I heard 8 million people had voted early I thought voting today would be a breeze but was disappointed to rock up to a hefty line at Edithvale primary. Ripping day though to stand in the sun and get a nice dose of vitamin D.

Yeah, she’ll always stand her ground no matter who’s confronting her. It could be a 7ft bodybuilder, she actually doesn’t give a crap lol.

But at the same time, she’s a smaller woman. There’s only so much she can do, which worries me in the current state of things. And a lot of racist cowards tend to target people like my mum. My siblings and I (both my sisters and brothers) don’t really experience a lot of overt racism nowadays because we speak the language fluently, we’re all slightly on the taller side etc. But my mum receives it a fair bit.

She’s a tough person though so this type of thing doesn’t usually affect her. Always serves it right back and continues on with her day. Probably affects us as her children more than it affects her. But we still get worried leaving her alone, so we tend to go with her to places like this. We always organise for one of us to go in case something goes down.

I am in Wannon where it's a battle between Lib Dan Tehan and the orange Alex Dyson. I'm an evictee from Corangamite (my town got booted out in the electoral redraw) so im probably not in a "classic" Wannon town but here it's absolutely full of orange Alex Dyson signs, one red labor sign, one green, and one sad guy in Blue looking really grumpy. Maybe he was annoyed there were no sausages?

After decades of being in safe Liberal seats it's great to be in a marginal electorate. The pork that gets thrown around really is astonishing.
