Who do you hope to win? Without getting too deep and allowing politics to put a wedge between us as supporters, just nominate which party you are voting for or if you are still too young to vote, who you would like to see win.

labor. altho howard has did some good things for this country. i dont think costello would be a howard

Not in my eyes. ;)

Greens for you Scotland. :D

Greens?

It's a shame the Australian Millionaires Party and the Shooters Party aren't fielding candidates in my seat. Or maybe even the Australian Men's Party, I guess they would help keep the Gillards and Vantsones out of parliament. ;) :D

This future of Australian politics looks a little bleak for mine. Howard will be gone within 2 years regardless of what happens, so the next in line is Costello. Given the level of ineptitude he has shown over the last few months, he should quit politics and take up a job with Qantas or Telstra. Subtle digs at companies I don't like aside, after Costello, I don't know whose name would be next thrown up. Turnbull? Downer? Ruddock? Abbott? Slim pickings.

Rudd is a smug little weasel (essentially John Howard 15 odd years younger but with more hair, so it's not going to stop people from voting for him), but I'm not convinced by his team. Swan, Gillard, Garrett? Slim pickings there too.

Where are all the passionate West Coast SRP Board posters? Other than GB who started the thread, Mr Q and MSR273 are regular politics posters, though at slightly different ends of the spectrum.;)

I'll throw a topical election question (well a short series of questions really) open to the floor. Industrial Relations. Is the WorkChoices legislation a good/bad thing? Is it influencing your vote one way or the other? If you are against it, what changes would you like to see made to the legislation?

I turned 18 this year and get to vote for the 1st time. If anyone knows anything about economics and the economy they would vote for the Libs. Rudd just seems to be fake. Though if Labor gets in i'll laugh at everyone who voted for them when the interest rates go over 10% and they all start to cry. They will try and blaim the government but in hind sight they can only blaim themselves. I say play it safe and vote the Liberals.

Bad thing, good in theory but very poorly applied. To many concessions to try and appease the masses have complicated the legisitation where the goal should be simplicity.

Im voting Liberal, Labor are just giving me the shits lately (though everything politic is they are just worse). I hate their ads and not that's not the reason why Im not voting for them/Rudd.
F*** I hate elections, esp the federal election, even though this is the first time I get to vote an such large and important election, WOW

I love you Goldenblue.

Just like I loved you in Pirates of Penzance and Jesus Christ Superstar.

Hahahaha!

I was good, wasn't I. Best thing I ever did was write Carmilla which is a song about a vampire. See, I can be more evil than Darth Eagle. ;)

Interest rates will not go through the roof. We only had to have 17% under Keating due to the stock market crash of 87, all governments around the world lifted rates sharply, even economic conservatives such as Thatcher and Regan lifted rates.

I was effected by Workchoices. Where I work, I lost my overtime rates from double time on a Saturday to time and a quarter. We also lost our bonuses that the company offered which improved productivity from 15,000 units to 23,000 units and after putting in the hard yards, they took it away from us.

Now, they have banned overtime, some of us guys who have been with the company for many years, are now put onto menial tasks and demoting us in the hope we resign in anger, which they now are replacing us with casuals for less pay and no overtime rates. So far since that started that tactic, a dozen people have resigned and been replaced with low paid casuals.

Just before workchoices, I was bringing home (after tax) anywhere between $850.00 - $1000.00 a week to now which is about $550.00 a week.

I have 7 kids, I see them unable to buy their own home because of affordability, I see them having hell in getting a decent paying job with the my way or the highway attitude of companies such as mine.

I voted for Howard last time because Latham just scared me, but Howard will not get my vote this time. I am sick of his fear campaigns, his deceit and contempt for parliament and the Australian people.

Interest rates will not go through the roof as Howard is saying. He is riding on the reforms of the last ALP government who opened up the country to the world in trade, which helped revive the country after the mess that Fraser and Howard left the country in. After all, I am old enough to remember the high interest rates, the high unemployment which Howard as treasurer left when in government.
