With the long term injury to Pettifer, we must elevate a rookie and give them a go.
I know Collard has done sweet FA since he joined, but he is easily the most talented rookie we have. I think we should elevate him and use him as an x-factor type player if we lose to the Lions this week and are out of the hunt for the finals.

Why Collard?

We have a surplus of backmen with even Rance struggling to get a game despite some good performances in the twos. This means it would be crazy to elevate Sylvester.

With Gus Graham in good form and not able to push his way up into the seniors it would not make much sense to elevate Cartledge.

Howat has been given a taste and has that one quality that crucifies players who try to take that step up into the seniors - he plays only on one side of his body.

That leaves Collard. Anyone that has seen him play can tell you that the kid CAN play. He has been give sweet FA motivation by being dropped to the Burgers reserves even after good performances for the firsts.

He can play as a crumbing forward who can play taller than he looks (strong overhead) and is a great kick for goal. We can assess whether we keep him for next year by throwing him into the fire.

Thoughts?

We don't have to elevate anybody at this stage, it would be a waste of money to elevate him to the seniors simply because he won't get a game because he hasn't performed well enough to play seniors

Collard is closer to being delisted then he is elevated.

Has done very little all year except trim down a bit and play one very good Coburg seniors game

I think that AT was suggesting we elevate him if we have no hope of making the finals so that we can truly assess his ability to play with the big boys. We are well within the salary cap so I have no problem with doing just that.

He does come across as someone, who if we can harness, can be a real weapon in attack. Nothing wrong with that.

Picking a team is much like a footy match. If you don't take some calculated risks, you are never going to win.

Winning flags requires a team full of ability as well as application. You won't win one with hacks in the team.

Poor idea :thumbsd: :thumbsd:... why waste $30k just to see how a bloke goes. I know footy is a big business these days, but $30k is still a lot of money for a club thats just about to embark on a re-development of their training ground.

$30k could also mean the difference between holding onto one of our young guns at a contract renewal.

Also... what would blokes like Meyer, JON, Rance, Collins, etc, think of a bloke getting AFL gametime when he cant even make it past the magoo reserves?

You want to see a bloke to see if he can make it or not... play Rance, JON, Collins or Meyer. ;)

they're called the magoo magoo's mate. :D

Hasn't earnt it.....

Exactly!

Sends a very poor message to players already on the list and the hundreds of prospective AFL players out there that near enough is good enough.

Never reward mediocrity.

If he was carving them up at Coburg, I'd consider it...but based on what...a handful of senior VFL games? No way!
