Why do people use this Paige women as if she is some sort of credible source?

Because she quotes from other sources?

Anyways, who cares about him having big body small body whatever. He's going to be playing as a small forward, having a big body isn't high on the agenda of moulding a good small forward.

I know hes a midget but im not going to say hes no good or too short or whatever, truth is this is a guy that I have never seen play apart from a 1 min youtube video thats 3 yrs old and some stats. Collingwood have shown that it doesnt matter if your father son pick or NSW scholarship kid. If the club thinks hes not going to be any good they wont pick him up.....simple

Could be a danger zipping around the forward line, maybe that;s the thinking, a genuine crumber and goal sneak who gets away or gets taken high for a free. I don't see an issue coming onto Rookie category B.

How's this years' draft shaping? That may play a part in our decision.

I wouldn't think so considering he'd only be picked up in the rookie draft and I don't think we're really screaming out for any mature players at this stage. The situation is much like last year with Witts.

I'll be livid if we don't pick him up in the rookie draft.

He's essentially a low risk high reward type player, well that's the case with all rookies isn't it.

The rookie list is a great way to find players that aren't your stock standard. A good way to find diamonds in the rough and I think Edwards fits that bill.

This year we clearly moved to stop using the rookie draft as a lottery and picked up low risk guys. I reckon that it was a great move, because the worst case scenario is that the mature age state league guys strengthen our VFL team and provide positive role models fro the teenage draftees. I hope we don't go back to drafting high spec prospects on the rookie list

Having said, my understanding is that as a NSW scholoraship holder Edwards will be a rookie who sits outside the rookie list and thus won't cost us a state league guy.

It depends on the amount of spots on the rookie list, the pool of decent mature age picks and you're lists area of concerns.

A player of Edwards speed isn't something that comes often, I would definitely place him on the rookie list and see how he develops.

Agreed. I also think that Mooney will be promoted and thus there will be spare category B player on our rookie list and thus the opportunity cost of listing him will simply be the best available category B rookie - eg stuff all.

No evidence presented to suggest we've committed to anything at all. Also, this piece was written by one of the people behind that Trade Week Facebook page that seem to have a "post anything even remotely true" policy so I wouldn't be putting too much stock in it. The player summaries are pretty impressive though. Until the club come out and say we've committed to him, which I'm not sure Hine will do prior the draft, I'm not counting him as an official player.

Well he spent time over summer doing Pre-Season at the Club. That shows we have Interest in him

My god people are so literal on this forum,

Is this better, BIG FRAMES

I don't even think it's a matter of us not picking players with "big frames" but because we're fielding such a young side, most of them are underdeveloped compared to the opposition.

If you want Players with Big Bodies you won't get any from 18 year old Kids that you Draft. Might be some that can become Big Bodies

That's quite the generalisation. It's also wrong.

Smallest? No where near it.

He's listed as 167cm;

Here's a few that were shorter;

Libba; 163cm
Daniel Craven; 162cm
James Bradford 154cm:eek: (Played in the 1940's)

And some others at a similar height;

Filandia; 168cm (so about the same)
Neade; 170cm
Tony Francis; 171cm

So he's not breaking any records at 167cm.

We should list him, it doesn't cost us a rookie spot for the first year I believe and after that we'd know if he's any chance at making it all.

you don't really put up a compelling argument with that list.
One premiership player (Francis) one Brownlow Medallist (Libba) who's main value was tagging. Apart from Neade, the rest are journeymen.

However, I agree he is worth a punt in the rookie draft. With the tackling rule interpretation, if he could be taught to shrug of tackles like the Selwoods/Shuey, we have a player who will pick up a lot of free kicks in the fwd line.

I see Edwards as more of a one-dimensional role player who will do well as a small forward for a few years but soon, opposition sides will work him out quickly and he'll disappear after 4 to 5 years. Again, he's worth a later rookie pick.

My only other concern is that with interchanges being capped, there is a premium on versatile players who can play multiple positions (eg Dwyer, Martin, Beams, Sidey). Edwards I only see being value as a small crumbing forward - he certainly can't play down back

Ollie Wines and Jack Viney look pretty big bodied to me!

Wine did have a Big Body for a 18-19 Year old. Though how much was Muscle?

Viney did not look like to have a Big Body to me, Normal Body in my Mind

How many of Blair, Elliott, Kennedy, Dwyer, Martin, Thomas and chuck in Sinclair, Williams, Yagmoor, Krak, Sidebottom, Fasolo and Clarke, and maybe Edwards can we play in the one side. Only a couple of these play taller. Down the track we'll lose Ball and Swan, then our average height in our smalls will look even worse.
