Recommitted Elijah Hollands [OOC 2026] - Carlton ask him to explore trade options, stayed

Hes not going anywhere, this is a common tactic from clubs to scare a player into pulling his head in. especially since they specify "off field issues".
Why would a club wanting to pick him up want to see that? that would make him LESS likely to move on. You use HR Spin "wasnt a fit for our team and vision moving forward" etc

i would be VERY surprised he moves.

I agree, no club will take him, especially in a trade scenario. This is a wake up call for him, he is contracted so will likely play for Carlton next year, but he knows he will be delisted is he doesn't pull his head in. Has a lot of talent, but it seems Carlton are trying to instill discipline in their group, and may be a reason for current backlash.

Can't remember feedback as brutal as this from a senior coach. Something seriously wrong has occurred here.

Presume Carlton have covered up a fair bit of stuff throughout the season.

Clubs wont trade for him. Carlton likely shake hands and he gets a portion of his money owed for 2026 and then look to be picked up as an SSP.

For Carlton to publically air the grievances, they know they aren't getting anything back for him.

I know he still has a year to run, but if he was to be delisted, would he be worth picking up as a dfa with some sort of “good behaviour” clause?
Is he skill good enough to turn a blind eye to the off field stuff?
I remember he was highly touted as a youngster, but never really watch him play to see if he turned out alright on field.

I don't think we'll delist him.
I think it will be more like if any club wants him we'll take a 5th round pick, so he's essentially free to a good home, but we're not going to sack him or pay him out.

Ok. I’ll rephrase it.

He can certainly play, so is worth it in terms of talent.
But you have to weigh that up with the off-field, and I don't know how to measure just how bad that is. Probably worth the swing for a year.

I assume it's one of

a) His 'lifestyle choices' have seriously impacted his ability to maintain professionalism (missing training, not eating right, losing fitness, etc).

b) He was dumb enough to get caught and his missing games is through AFL strikes instead of a club sanction.

I'm sure clubs don't really care a player is engaging in 'lifestyle choices'; provided they do it quietly and discreetly, and don't let it impact their on-field performance.

Criticise in private and praise in public.

I really didn’t like Voss going on radio and talking about list management.

Why are the Blues allowing this?

Keep it in house and just trade or delist him.

Because whatever he's been up to has really rubbed his teammates the wrong way by all reports. Voss' honesty is probably a bit of a show of solidarity with the players.

At any rate, I'm glad Voss didn't get up there and lie and cover for him. I quite liked the straight answer, should be more of it.

Voss shouldn't be on the program in the first place.

My view exactly. Theres no way Cripps or weitering wouldnt have known about this before Voss went public.

They have likely wiped him already.

Im just interested in how this affects Ollie.

I don’t even know about the phenomenal talent really. He's looked pretty good, was great in his draft year. Not sure his work since filled us an with confidence. Have to admit i haven't watched this guy that closely though.
Huh?
Didn't play at all in his draft year tearing his ACL prior.

If you remember the U18 season was cancelled in Vic as well.
Yeah would have been going off the vision of previous year. I just remember him being high on my list of kids that i hoped would slide before the extra picks we had pushed late and got traded for Cameron anyway. I think we had all of 1:30 of vision of Max Holmes to go off and it didn't look great.

He's a natural, his ceiling is massive. Excellent endurance, hurt factor, and footy IQ. Seems his off-field IQ is obviously the issue, but he's too good and too young for another club not to roll the dice for free.

Kicking would be in the top 3-4 players on any team. Rest of his game was decent but his ball use was easily his biggest strength.

Think the hope was that this season he'd come in and get more midfield minutes where he dominated as a junior.
Having watched him for a number of years at the Suns, I would disagree with your assessment of his kicking abilities, above average yes, elite no

I really hope the Crows take a risk here with a low value trade. He is exactly the type of midfielder that we need, but it would be unlike us to take a risk on a player with known substance abuse issues after the way we treated Stengle.

Stengle was given another chance after his drink driving offence and then got caught doing drugs.
