It's irrelevant anyway. That decision did not give us the lead. They coughed that up themselves.

Media has challenged dimma about the cost of not tagging Lachie.

They need to focus on the 6 v. 1 contest that cost them the game. This is what should be remembered.

No more goal posts technology
Just make them taller
Send the Gabba ones to Springfield as we are a bit short on cash
It's always bemused me that on the few grounds where AFL is played they don't make all the posts taller.

It can't be to save money. It wouldn't cost that much.

Is it the look of it ?

It would make the job of all the umps so much easier.

As the rules presently stand their is a big variance in goal posts lengths
I assume it is to cover junior footy etc.
I wonder if the Gabba ones are 15 meters

2022 Rules On Goal Posts

3.3 GOAL POSTS AND BEHIND POSTS 3.3.1 Position
(a) Two posts, to be called goal posts, shall be a minimum height of six metres and a maximum height of 15 metres and be placed at each end of the Playing Surface at a distance of 6.4 metres apart.
(b) A further two posts, to be called behind posts, shall be a minimum height of three metres and a maximum height of 10 metres and be placed at a distance of 6.4 metres on each side of the goal posts so that a straight line can be drawn on the ground to join each post.

3.3.2 Padding
A Controlling Body must ensure that padding is attached around each goal and behind post as follows:
(a) a minimum of 35 millimetres thick foam padding, covered in canvas or painted;
(b) a minimum height of 2.5 metres from the bottom of each goal and behind post;
(c) a suitable width to allow the padding to be fixed around each goal and behind post; and
(d) the padding must be securely attached around each goal and behind post.

Implied in Hardwick’s statement is the notion “we are such a big important Melbourne club and should not be treated like a smaller club from anywhere else”.

The decision did not cost jobs or millions of dollars, Lynch missing and then comically bad defence of 6 v 1 in the goal square is what cost them. What it mostly cost was embarrassment. The Tigers believe it was their right to win that game. They should have won the game for reasons other than a (correct) ARC decision. They know that. This is all smoke and mirrors for the benefit of their members - turn embarrassment into anger, outrage and victimhood.

This will become part of their inbuilt folklore that they will believe - we are so good that [insert enemies here] didn’t want us to win and made us lose. But we really won.

Just made myself a big bowl of popcorn and moseyed on over to the Richmond board. 22 pages about this - quite entertaining actually.

I liked this thinking - the AFL have it against them from 2020 and they knew Richmond would win the gf after beating us. From 7th place. So the AFL made sure we win the game.

If that's the case the AFL need to up their game fixing. Leaving it to the last three minutes, and wasting their influence on a decision that still left Richmond in front was weak. We could have still lost!!

Instead we had to rely on their six defenders handing us the game.

Bloody AFL. Can't do anything right.
Hah yep. It also implies they forgot to let the goal umpire know about it.

History will judge our victory as fraud because of the media narrative the last few days. Sad.

No one will remember the detail, we have a W next to that match in the history books.

Dimma will fade away like the rest of their self-centered narcissistic fan base.

I'm sure X-Mrs. Hardwick would've celebrated this guy sooking up in every media article.

Pretty funny seeing Dimma trying to look all cool and laid back earlier in the week then seeing him sulking in the box all night. Why bother with the fake persona? It’s clearly not him.

Because he wants to be seen as cool despite being a bully. He's the AFLs Biff Tannen.

If they keep whining could the AFL fine them for bringing the game into disrepute?

I thought you couldn't overtly question an umpires/officials call.
I suggested in another thread that he could be in trouble. A fine likely
Depends if the AFL consider the ARC guy an umpire
He should be as he makes decisions regularly that impact scores

I’ll always take solace knowing I can go back and watch Jack Riewoldt’s pissweak attempt to spoil the eventual Daniher goal.

I didn't realise that Jack was in the goal square for that last goal.

They really did spud that up. Their forward getting in the way of their defenders. Bet the defenders are filthy about that.

Why not just put a laser on top each post pointing skyward?
You could test it at Marvel at least. From the roof to the post and if a ball breaks the beam the post lights up like a zing bail

Though I imagine the posts shake too much for that to work

6.4 metres between the big sticks and he still missed 🤣🤣
Being a goal umpire myself and often call the ones that sail over the posts a behind (when in doubt always go the lesser score ) I shake my head when the kicker, especially if it’s a set shot, gives you a filthy look
I feel like reminding them, they have all of 6 metres of space to kick it between, therefore it’s your fault if you miss

I feel the same way (probably wouldn't if I was a Richmond supporter) if you kick it 5m above the goal post very close to in line with the goal post you're not making it easy for the umps
