Hippy has to be playing injured, he was in terrific form in the middle of the season kicking 6 and 5 goals hauls v Port and Bulldogs in a 2 out of 3 game stretch, looked to have really "arrived". We have no one else who can play in his stead though.Decided to watch the game again last night after being there live.
Few things I noticed again
Overall we were the better team the entire night. There was a period we went 1 goal 9 behinds, the rate of inside 50s didn’t change … we just started missing, our inaccuracy is bad and if you’re an opposition supporter or whatever you’re going to sense a mental fragility from it. But even if that was 4.6 it would’ve been dead and buried.
You could say that with Payne off, they got slightly more contested and uncontested marks up in the wing inside 50m but that’s the only change.
Next hippy. I like Hipwood and I stand up for him when my mates criticise him but even I couldn’t make any excuses for Saturday night.
His ball use was pathetic and he stopped our chains multiple times. Usually leading to a turnover and Carlton inside 50m and score. When he got the ball I reckon I counted 4 unpressured clangers that resulted in Carlton scores. Not saying we drop him or anything …. Just my observation of the game. Unsure what to do with him and at this point of the finals what can you do ?
Joey was great defensively! Bailey actually played well. Good to see Ashcroft again just play quality football.
I think if we can just sort out the misses patch. Then we are complete. Banking on Payne playing.
Since he has got into the groove post his ACL Ashcroft looks a more damaging player by foot, must have worked on it during rehab, before I thought his kicking while quite good was not damaging, IMO he will continue to improve this facet of his game.
Agree, I thought Bailey was good live on the night.
