Autopsy Elimination Final 2025 : Hawks crush Giants

Disagree, let people vent in the match day thread. Get rid of the frustrations in the heat of the moment. Most people get a clear head once the game is over and post accordingly in the Autopsy.

Remember kids, what happens in the Match Day thread stays in the Match Day thread.

As long as it isn't taking unfair swipes at individuals, I'm okay with the odd melt.

Everybody supports the club slightly differently.

I was guilty of some negativity yesterday, saying it was 'about to be a long summer for this group'.

I haven't seen us win a game live since 2022.

Was on hand for the final quarter capitulation against GWS in Canberra last season, so that third quarter yesterday was pure footy PTSD.

If I'd been lucky enough to attend any of our flags or a bunch of our wins in recent times, I feel like I would be a lot more level headed.

Out of curiosity - those who attended yesterday what would you say the crowd split was? Looked and sounded about 60% Hawthorn but I could be wrong.
I’d say 40% Hawks.

The Giants fans got up and about when they got their run on but geez Hawks fans made a decent racket.

Very interested in the coaching approach.

We 'let' 3 of their guys have 30+ touches. Whitfield, Green and Callahan
We did not let Toby, Cadman or Stringer pretty much look at the footy.

I wonder how much was this was game strategy vs individual performances on the day.

Love when we wear our home kit with white shorts for away games. Don’t mind the legends kit but when we’ve got the regular kit on in an away game it just feels like finals
Agree. Gold background, brown stripes, white shorts, classic combo.

Interestingly Ash has 7 inside fifty entries and not a single one went to a GWS player.

Amazing effort Hawks supporters! Had to laugh at some GWS poster saying ‘our roar is louder than theirs!’ - it’s your home final you numpty it’s supposed to be. That we came close to outnumbering you is an indictment on your pathetic franchise.

Envious I didn't get tickets on the wing. Atmosphere was great from there as opposed to behind the goals!

Ended up standing at the end and the ground was quite a sight

Was on the wing, fantastic seats and the atmosphere was simply electric. Hardly any quiet Hawks supporters in there. Just loved it.

I must say, Aunty Joan saved me. I was in the line for beers and was sure I'd miss the start of the game but she really lifted for me and delayed long enough for me to get back to my seat. I owe you a beer AJ!

Defenders who actually defend players.

It’s a novel concept nowadays.

IMHO there was reasonable pressure on those 3 mids/half backs once they got the footy but not enough to prevent them getting it.

I’d like to see us a metre or two closer to the Adelaide playmakers on Friday night (esp. Dawson) as I don’t think they’ll have the same problem with mid/forward connection that GWS did.

Whitfield? Probably strategic.

Green & Callahan I doubt we could have stopped if we wanted to.

I had to compromise the win by kissing the dirty carpet multiple times every time the giants lined up for goal and it was soooo worth it 😝
I tried to do that, but the Mrs wouldn't let me kiss the dirty carpet until after the game when the guests had left. 🤷‍♂️

I rarely make comments in autopsy threads and haven't made many comments at all this year due to being in Year 12. But I was so impressed by the way Blake Hardwick and Jack Scrimshaw played that I had to come on here and give them praise. When everyone else seemingly went to water as the Giants surged back, it was these two who stood tall and defended like their lives were on the line. And they both did it so effortlessly as well. Two years in a row now that Scrimshaw has done that. Love Weddle, but if it means sacrificing his defensive role so Scrimshaw can have a presence, I believe it's worth it.

Who can do the Maths on that? Im a bit surprised that Callaghan polled that high ahead of impey tbh. I would have Hardwick Impey Jai as our 3 best (throw a hat over them for the order). No votes for Kelly either who i thought was the architect of their comeback.

Watched the game again last night. Couple of questions re the ruck contest.

Briggs throwing Meek several times to the ground at ball ups. I get that wrestling for position is legal but surely this is excessive and not legal? Commentators also kept laughing it off as shenanigans.

Also at centre bounce their ruck constantly running beyond the ball to take the jump away from our ruck? Sometimes without even looking at the ball. Surely also not legal? Geelong also do this constantly.

My best guess

Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)

5 Blake Hardwick

4 Finn Callaghan

3 Jai Newcombe

2 Tom Green

1 Jarman Impey

Adam Kingsley (GWS)

5 Jai Newcombe

4 Finn Callaghan

3 Tom Green

2 Blake Hardwick

1 Jarman Impey

Either way, one of those coaches underrated Duke's game!

I would've had Duke BOG too, but the coaches review the game after, I'm guessing Mitchell saw some things particularly in that GWS run of 7 goals (5 from stoppage) which wouldn't have made Mitchell happy. Otherwise why would they have given 4 votes to Callaghan.

Also... Mitchell said before the game the most important player to shut down was Toby Greene, particularly in last quarters. I think Hinkley might not be happy with some of the decision making from his captain during the game, so probably didn't rate Hardwick's game that highly.
