Autopsy Elimination Final 2025 : Hawks crush Giants

I would've had Duke BOG too, but the coaches review the game after, I'm guessing Mitchell saw some things particularly in that GWS run of 7 goals (5 from stoppage) which wouldn't have made Mitchell happy. Otherwise why would they have given 4 votes to Callaghan.

Also... Mitchell said before the game the most important player to shut down was Toby Greene, particularly in last quarters. I think Hinkley might not be happy with some of the decision making from his captain during the game, so probably didn't rate Hardwick's game that highly.
When Hardwick doesn’t make a single error and blankets his opponent and provides rebound in huge moments I can understand.

But you almost need to do the scores on a quarterly basis because the different moments in games are huge

Was on hand for the final quarter capitulation against GWS in Canberra last season, so that third quarter yesterday was pure footy PTSD.

If I'd been lucky enough to attend any of our flags or a bunch of our wins in recent times, I feel like I would be a lot more level heheaded.
I was at the Canberra game and the game on Saturday. I can tell you being at the 2013 and 2015 grand finals were no tonic for me when we gave up a 40 odd point lead.

Also woke up with a bit of a sore Father’s Day head and off to a winery lunch today. I was a bit foggy so forgot to take credit for the win, I did the hard yards yesterday for the team…Carn’ the Hawkers!!!View attachment 2419357
Hard yards? I call that Saturday. :drunk:

I forget to mention how enjoyable it was to watch 2 grubs in Stringer and Toby do Sweet F all and lose. It still makes me smile.
agree on stringer, however, Toby is just about my favourite non-Hawthorn player. He plays on the edge but would love him at Hawthorn.

He is one of the best pressure game players in the league so we can only rejoice in what a fantastic game Hardwick played on him.

Would you still like him if he eye gauged Will Day and kicked Hardwick in the balls.

First opportunity to write in this thread. Wow what a game!!

I took my boys to the game and were lucky enough to get seats in Bay 9¾ and we had an absolute blast.

My 10 yo lost his voice before the game had started :straining:

My 12 year old was picked out by Nash at the end of the game and given a signed footy.

We had Wiz, Ginni and Croc, come and get photos right in front of us on the boundary.

It was a game that will be remembered for a very long time.

A question for the senior Hawks on here, was this the best interstate elimination final win our club has participated in?

No.

1991 at Subiaco was incredible. First time a Melbourne team had beaten an interstate team at home in a final. If you can watch it, do so. All our greats came to play that day.

Yep that was an incredible game, but it was a QF not and elimination final.

Adelaide 2007
That was a MCG home elimination final.

We should have played a QF that year but shit the bed against the $wans in the last round.

No, it was at Docklands
Buddy kicked 7 including the winner with seconds remaining

You knew we'd won when Dipper booed Dunstall for taking a mark in the goal square off Dipper's kick that was sailing through. He was laughing and booing. They were playing around at that point.

You wouldn't if you barracked for Essendon.
I was at the grannie in 1984, unfortunately :(

Dipper ran through Walsh and ko'd him with a well-aimed elbow in the last qtr when it looked like all was lost. He may have been given life it that happened today. He was a very hard man, some may say thug, but he copped as much as he dished and never complained. Finished the 1989 GF with a punctured lung after being crunched by Ablett much earlier. Played the game out then rushed to hospital.

Ahhh the memories.

This was a special win, and the biggest reason for us going in with buckets of confidence against Geelong.

This was the win we needed, Adelaide win was just a byproduct of how good we finished at the end.

Amen to this.

Paradigm shift for this Hawthorn team after we broke the 2025 interstate failure mold, the hoodoo at that ground, and survived the best Tsunami GWS will produce until they go through another rebuild.

Our blue collar midfield beat the blue ribbon for all but 5 minutes of the game.
