so just to conform; it's gonna come down to margins between if we play freo or north at the G? the other will play pies at the g if they lose and eagles in perth if they win?

i'd prefer freo at the g so prefer big margin by freo and small by north...

confirm or deny?

Here are the scenarios-
a) Collingwood lose v. Essendon & Fremantle lose or win by <~11pts v. Melbourne,
Elimination Final: Geelong (5th) v. Fremantle (8th) at the MCG.

b) Collingwood win v. Essendon & Fremantle lose or win by <~11pts v. Melbourne,
Elimination Final: Geelong (6th) v. North Melbourne (7th) at the MCG.

c) Collingwood lose v. Essendon & Fremantle win by >~11pts v. Melbourne,
Elimination Final: Geelong (5th) v. North Melbourne (8th) at the MCG.

d) Collingwood win v. Essendon & Fremantle win by >~11pts v. Melbourne,
Elimination Final: Geelong (6th) v. Fremantle (7th) at the MCG.

No matter what happens, we cannot play anyone other than North Melbourne or Fremantle at the MCG.

d) Obviously the most likely scenario.

If you guys play Freo next week, it will be at Etihad, not the MCG.

I work at Etihad Stadium and the inside word from senior staff I have spoken to is that MSL have elected to accept an offer to play extra matches at the stadium next season which would mean not playing finals there this season. It is up to the Stadium, not the AFL if matches get played there, and we as staff have thus far been told there most likely won't be any finals in 2012. Admittedly, nothing finalised and things may change.

Besides, if the most likely scenario comes to fruition and we do play Fremantle next week that would mean there would be only 1 final at the MCG in week 1 of the finals. You think the AFL would let that happen? Not a chance. The only faint hope of a final at Etihad Stadium is if Hawthorn, Geelong and Collingwood play at home Week 1 of the finals (and even then it is unlikely), which would take Collingwood losing tonight.

Playing Freo in Melbourne would have to be our best result.....
playing NM in Melbourne would be better.
Saw Freo live last week- very intimidating ruck/mids, they will cause grief++++
Freo are undefeated at Etihad this year.

You saw them against a side who just beat GWS.
You didnt see them against a GREAT finals team with a proven hard nosed midfield.
Freo will get slaughtered...

Saw them beat WC by a heap a few weeks ago

here's an interesting scenario for freo fans;

siren sounds, pav has the ball 30 out and can take a shot on goal. He kicks it he hits the lead for the Coleman but freo lift their % so they have to play in Melbourne next week. He misses they play at home but he doesn't win the Coleman...

which would you prefer?

Yep. AFL have an obligation to play at least one final at Etihad unless the expected crowd is more than Etihad's capacity, or something like that. The AFL won't care if your game is played at the MCG or Etihad. It would actually make fixturing for next week easier for them cos they could play both Melbourne games on Saturday if they wanted to.

Unless what you say is true and MSL are happy to give up their right to a final this year, you'll be playing there next week. I'd be shocked if they did though.

Obviously the second option?

We don't want to play a Ross Lyon coached side at the dome.

If it is at the G, it is an ok result.

Sort of think with North they could come out and really worry us with run and carry or they'd be complete ratshit and we'd belt them. Freo you know what we would get, Ross Lyon footy and it stands up in finals, but I would be confident we could play that game better than them.

And be without a couple of players for the second final with likely suspensions as a result of smacking Ballantyne.

Looks like we are Fremantle in Melbourne (very good result, regardless of whether it is at the MCG or Ethiad) unless Collingwood lose to Essendon. So I guess it is 'come on Collingwood'!

This is incorrect.
There is no obligation to play a final at Etihad whatsoever.

Ummm, yes there is.

Etihad's contract with the AFL stipulates if there are two finals to be played in Melbourne over the opening weekend, then one is to be played at the Docklands venue.

However, the AFL has the right to overrule the agreement and stage both at the MCG if they involve match-ups that would leave people locked out of the 53,000-capacity stadium. In return, Etihad gets extra games scheduled the following home and away season.

Not getting ahead of ourselves, but should we win then it's an interstate final Week 2, & a Prelim v Hawks or Pies. Starting to look like a tougher road to the Premiership...

I think the finals series package might make our game an MCG game.

Pies and Hawks will sell the place out anyway so the AFL better off making Geelong and Freo the finals series game and playing it at the G.

Source is Dermie so there are reliability issues but he just said its looking like Saturday nght at the G
Hopefully they announce tonight as tomorrow means bugger all
