Not really good signs for the league when there are predictions of 5+ goal margins in the majority of the games

6 out of 9 games so far this season have been over ten goal margins and only 1 game has been closer than 25 points. Must be a huge worry for the league. People do not want to go see matches where the result is a foregone conclusion before a ball is bounced.

Speaking of balls being bounced, interesting to note one of the umpires in the Lang Lang v Nar Nar Goon game was bouncing in the centre. Got his first one spot on but that was about it. had to scrap it half way through the second quarter because he couldn't get one to go straight.

I agree, a bit of a worry with the margins. Really felt for Ellinbank on the weekend, they had a couple of guys who were dirty at the first bounce (presuming they were ressies or U18s?). Their attitude and effort during the whole game was outstanding. :thumbsu:

The higher teams will eventually struggle to retain their best players due to the lack of competitiveness and the lower teams will never be able to aim for anything more than just surviving.

Who writes the Warragul Gazette footy reports these days? Absolutely atrocious - half of the write ups didn't even make sense.
I think Barnsey from Garfield had a bit to do with it last year. Probably if the editor had a read of most of what was in todays paper then alot would get canned. I agree not alot makes sense, match reports all mixed up, incorrect information. I see Mick Santo put in a report for Bunyip Vs Lonwarry game, does this mean he's not pulling on the boots at Nilma???

The Paky Gazette is the way to go. Ken Moore may be a knob but he puts in the effort which makes it a 1000 times better read.

Mikey has decided to hang up the boots and concentrate on BBall. He attends each game that he writes about I know that for sure.

Does he write up each match report with Crayon's on the back of his colouring book?.... Needs to hang up his boots and go back to School! haha

Warragul Gazette is good for a laugh!

Thats a good point, we dont want to see the top teams lose players bacause of the uncompetitiveness of the league. Even more important considering the how many other leagues players can play in close by.

For years the league kept improving every year, which was good for attracting players but now the point has come where clubs will never be able to compete and the divide will never close.

Just having a read through today's paper and just having a look at the netball scores and they are almost the complete opposite to the football in terms of the beltings. To see Nilma beat Garfield by 50 odd goals and Ellinbank beat Cora Lynn by 40 odd goals, and knowing that Poowong has a strong netball team but weak football team, just makes it more difficult for this division proposal to go ahead. If we were to split the league into two divisions, it would nearly be that the Division 2 netball comp will be strong and the Division 1 would be weak.

Who cares??

He only done the Bunyip Longwarry game this week that i'm aware of and a tiny bit of Garfield and our game. Saint I don't know about your club be we actually give a shit about what our netballers are up to and want seeing they are the only ones having any success at the moment at our club. They have been asked there opinion on the 2 tiered system and we will be making our decision with that in mind when it's time to vote aswell. I see a few clubs have separate clubs when it comes to football/netball it seems to work for some but not for others.

We do care about our netball too, our clubs combined a while back and we are trying to get the clubs to work closer together. But I dont think it is much of an issue as the netball side of the club is relient on the football club as that is where the majority of the income is generated, not the other way around.

My tips for this week are
Dusties by 47
Garfield by 64pts
Longwarry by 84pts
Bunyip by 12pts
Catani by 83 pts
Nar Nar Goon by 74 pts
Koo wee rup by 4 pts

Two rounds in what are people's thoughts?

Looks as though it will be the same sides battling it out as last season and if anything the gap between the top and bottom sides looks to have increased even further. Of the sides that missed the finals last year it seems only Koo Wee Rup, Lang Lang and Buln Buln have improved.

What do people reckon of the send off rule? Surely it is time to change it. It's too big a punishment especially when the umpires get it wrong so often. Cost us any chance we had on the weekend against Garfield. Not saying we would have beat then because they are a bloody good side but take that 15 minutes and we actually outscored them for the remaining 3 and a half quarters.

Perhaps umpires should be able to keep the ability to send off players but let the side replace the offending player. Umpires often only see the retaliation and it's just too big a punishment.

It's a pretty big deterrent, so it should be used with discretion, but it seems (though with virtually no comparison) to eliminate a lot of unnecessarily violent aspects of country football. I can't recall many from the past 3 or 4 years, save for when the Longwarry coach headbutted one of our players, and in that case it's use was justified

I would say the garfield coach getting sent off in last years grand final was justified

We are always fairly hard to beat at home but did play well and had a couple of good ins. With the shit draw its hard to get a read on everyone until about round 8. We play 5 of last years finalists plus kwr who should make it this year first 6 games. Makes it tough.

Heard the league is definitely being split into east and west next year and these is only going to 18's and 16's in juniors.

What will the divisions be?

My guess
EAST
Dusties
Ellinbank
Nilma
Buln Buln
Neerim
Nyora
Poowong

WEST
Bunyip
KWR
Lang Lang
Cora Lynn
NNG
Garfield
Catani

Then Longwarry can probably go either way depending on whether the league can find another team from somewhere.

Heard the same thing from a Catani player on the weekend.

If Longwarry went west that would be the 8 clubs that came to the EDFL from West Gippy, probably belong in the East though. Tooradin seems the logical choice for an extra club brining another West Gippy club back in.

I would hope in the East it would be under 18s and 15s or 15.5s, all those clubs struggle for numbers in junior teams, that extra year would make things easier. Doesnt leave anywhere for current under 13s unless the Warrgul Junior league wanted to run a sunday comp for that grade, logistics would be impossible to run saturday morning.

Lang Lang wouldnt be happy with this would they Surkin? From what I have heard they want to be in the "lower standard" league.

No I think Lang Lang would be happy with this arrangement playing against clubs and players it knows.

We are gonna have better luck of getting good numbers if we are playing against teams we know. Just have to have a look at the numbers in our social rooms after the game against Dusties on Saturday. Probably only 5 people from their club came in for a beer. Two weeks earlier when we played Garfield there would have heen 50+ of their players/supporters in the rooms. Of the 7/8 teams in the east we only really know the guys from Nyora.

This year we have been able to attract a lot of players from Pakenham, Berwick, Narre Warren area. Most of these guys are unpaid twos players which shows Lang Lang is not too far for players to go if the club is well run. With a new $20 million ground development happening in the next 2 years it is only going to get easier to attract players as well.

20 million? What they hell are you building there??

We have enjoyed playing LL, and it would be dissapointing losing our games against LL and Catani but its better for the club in the long run.

LL is a big enough town to play against those clubs even though its a bit further out, surely getting a thirds side is your number 1 priority at the moment. Its almost the same league LL and KWR left 10 or so years ago beacuse they couldnt compete.
