Lets be honest our midfield is quite ordinary, lacks speed and resembles spuds at times. I reckon old mate yOH could develope into a damaging mid, the bloke is fast and can break lines, i can see him being able to rack up clearences by just run/bounce/slot it from 50. Maybe when Glass and Hurn are back in defence give Yeo some midfield time.

Maybe he'd get the chance if there wasn't a list clogger in there that I wont name.

He who shall not be named, im gonna just say Shawn Mcmanus twin then...should be used to win the ball and then dish off to the playmakers to burst through packs and set up scoring opportunies, kind of like what Rowan Jones did for Judd/Cousins

My short answer would be not yet.

I think he needs more time to develop his tank/ ability to find the ball and he's needed in the back line atm (with hurn + waters out). I think given his marking ability and playing style his best position is always going to be HBF. That said i do want to develop him in the midfield. I think he could be a high class winger. I see him as ending up with a similiar play style to birchall switching between the two positions as required.

I also think he'd be very good winger. We already have 2 decent wingers though in Gaff and Rosa. Honestly I think our midfield seems to be full of small bodied runners. What we're really lacking obviously is big bodied mids with decent disposal skills, it's disheartening to see our mids bullied off the ball at contests. With Waters gone I really do like him as a tallish rebound off HBF. I always felt Schofield provided us with decent run off the backline, whatever happened to that guy?

Also Yeoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Love him to develop into a dangerfield type mid as he has the attributes already !
Pace
Hardness
Mongrel
Good skills
Desire to compete
Marking
Just needs to add a few things to his game first
Tank to run both ways for longer
Bulk up a bit more
Happy for him to play the role he has with small stints in the midfield this year then preseason go to full time mid
Happy with Sheppard / bennell progress down back along with hurn , EMac Schoey and brown have a solid back 6 with attacking options + Ellis if fit

Id rather his speed of the half back line, provides a good foil for Hurn when he get's back. I don't miss the days when Hurn was the only way the ball would get past defensive 50.

Midfield will come good I think.. consider that Shuey and Gaff are 71 and 69 games respectively and Sheed is a skinny kid atm.

He could move there eventually, but we need Hurn in the backline before he can. If our season does indeed go down the drain, Simmo can experiment more and more. I would even throw Schofield into the guts to see what he can offer for us in that area. I reckon Schofield would make a very good wingman.

I say play him down back for a few more games till Hurn is 100%..With Shep and Bennell playing well and Hurn returning we will still have a lot of drive from the backline and i Yeo would add extra pace to midfield that we sorely lack. Yeo will good on a wing but Gaff will need to play a role at times either up front or even down back, Rosa is good down back or even in a lock down role.

I'm hoping we can hold onto Schofield. My guess is that if Glass retires at seasons end Schoey is a perma fixture in the back half, which would ensure we keep him. Strikes me a s a confidence player who needs to be played and string games together before showing his best.

I tend to agree with this. It would be amazing if Waters can actually come back and contribute. The flexibility and depth in our back half would be massive. I look at Yeo and think he is what we need in the middle. He plays the game with bad intentions, and we really don't have many quality players who do that. He is tall, very strong etc. Kicking could use some polish. He has absolutely sprayed some shots at goal this year already. I have no idea about his tank. Can someone enlighten us as to his gut running ability?

Forgot about Waters! Yeos gut running is alright but it is something that can be improved.

Agreed. My completely unsubstanciated opinion is that the plan is to develop him and them move him more to the midfield (HB-HF is now the midfield).

I also think the absence of Hurn / Waters (and now Ellis) will slow this process for very obvious reasons - run starts from defence not in the midfield and we must have attacking ability like Yeo in defence.

oh god another "player A in midfield please" thread.

everyone in midfield. that will teach them.

Needs to learn to get the ball more for that to be an option.

Of course he could learn that through the midfield, but we'd probably struggle for it for a while at least.

Turning him loose on a HBF/Wing first would be prudent rather than just throwing him into the deep end. Could play him as a tagger, but then we'd have Selwood loose which isn't particularly helpful.

The problem is that he's the best close-checking non-tall we've got at the moment, and we have more accomplished options to play loose (Hurn, Ellis, probably Bennell) or through the midfield. Do we compromise short-term improvement for long-term development? I'd say so, but that's a big ask of a new coach.
