Elliott should open with slater

the problem is Catman, Hayden is a nice bloke who fits in well with the rest of the team.

Elliott is a moody bastard who, no matter how good he is will probably never be selected because he doesn't 'fit in'

I know this sounds like glib rubbish but its true - believe me.

You guys are kidding right!!

What has Elliot done in the last 12 months to deserve a place in the side (a side that has won the last 15 test matches mind you!!)

Cheers

Gonz my freind Matty Elliott scored over 1000 runs last sheild season almost single handidly lifting the Vics into the sheild final then, so well in fact that the ACB gave him a new contract, then over to England to flog their bowling attacks, unfortunately injured start of this shield season but has looked good since resuming, you cant substitute class, we all know what he is capable of.

Jamie Cox (Tas) scored the same if not more runs last season as Elliot, has done stuff all this season (again about the same as Elliot!)

Why should Elliot get in ahead of Cox?

Cheers

Gonzo

I reckon Slater should be in the Australian side not the 'A' side. He is all class.

Elliot had his chances - and unfortunately didn't take them. However his form lately has been good and should definately be consdered for the Ashes tour, since he played so well there in 1997. Another opener to watch out for is WA's Mike Hussey - he's got talent and potential, he'd be in the running for the Ashes tour too.

Slater averaged 28 for the calendar year just finished, Hayden averaged 33.

Slater ran Hayden out twice during the Windies series, making Hayden's sequence of scores look even poorer.

Apart from Slater in the 5th Test, neither of them has been oustanding.

Given the above comparison, why is everyone calling for Hayden's head and not Slater's?

Gonzo, I agree with you on Jamie Cox, he is a huge talent and should get a shot one day. My only concern is that he makes most of his runs on the batsman friendly Bellerive Oval but not as many 'away' which may inflate his average a bit. Haven't got any figures to back that up - just a hunch.

I'd like to see Elliot at No. 3 if they want to keep Slater & Hayden at the top of the order. Langer is too inconsistent for me. Perhaps when Mark Waugh retires then Elliot at 3 Langer at 4 Ponting up to 5 & Steve Waugh at 6. I like that line up.

Elliot still needs a few more runs but if he keep racking them up they can't ignore him forever. Katich is also waiting in the wings and the selectors seem to be very high on him.

BUBBALOUIS- Blewett has had more than a few good games, the last 4 Shield matches he's scored a 49, 70, 43, 18, 260 no, 80 and 69. He had 4 failures to start off the year, where he couldn't score even 5 runs. Now he's in good form and playing well. Everyone's bagging Blewett but who else in the A side scored runs??? No one.

I agree though that his one day form hasn't been good, I don't think he's even got to 30 in any 50 over match this year. I see him more as a Test match player but he couldn't be selected in the 4 day Aussie "A" match late last year because of his poor form.

His average is 34 runs in Test matches but I'd like to see what his average was when batting at six. I've always felt he batted better at six, even though he opens or bats at three for South Australia. Blewey scored 3 of his centuries at Test level batting at six and 2 of the 3 times he's been dropped has been after he's been pushed up the order.

I'd like to see Ponting pushed up the order when some of the older players retire and see Blewett bat in the middle order again. Unfortunately though, this will probably never happen as he's already 29, and somewhat pigeonholed as a top order player.

BSA- Yeah, I read somewhere that Elliot was the kind of player that when he was scoring runs, he was great to be around, but when he had a string of failures, he really let it affect him and became moody. Hayden is a great tourist, and a great bloke like you said, while he gets brownie points from the captain because he likes to go on those overseas excursions with Waugh, which I read about in his latest book.

In my opinion, Elliot is lucky to have played any test cricket.

Not because his performances haven't warrented selection, but because Slater should never have been dropped.

Cheers.

Dodongo has been thinking and Dodongo doesn't like that idea at all. Why Dodongo doesn't like that idea may you ask? Dodongo doesn't like that idea because it's pathetic. Dodongo likes Elliot but Dodongo thinks Elliot should not open with Slater and replace Dodongo's favourite Hayden. Dodongo wants to know why replace Hayden. Dodongo thinks Hayden did well with batting and fielding scoring some good scores. Hayden would have scored more is slater didn't run out Dodongo's favourite player Hayden. Hayden's fielding is much better than Elliots Dodongo believes and Hayden is a much better player than Elliot. Dodongo thinks there is no way Elliot will make the team.
