Xavier Ellis was playing a practice match for his school side (Melbourne Grammar) earlier this week, and he broke his ankle in two places. Set to miss quite a bit of footy, though he wasn't likely to play much for us this year anyway.

Seems our draftees are down on luck :(

This is the injury update as of the 22nd from the official site and there's no mention of Ellis breaking an ankle.

This is unconfirmed (nothing in any media) so far so the threads getting locked until some sort of official notification.

Please, no new threads on this until there is confirmation from either the club or via an official news outlet, thanks.

Okay, we've now got official confirmation that he's injured his foot/ankle but seems still no word if it's an actual break or not.

Ellis sustains foot injury

Sportal for afl.com.au
Exciting Hawthorn youngster Xavier Ellis is expected to be sidelined for the next six-to-eight weeks because of a foot injury.

"Hawthorn football manager Mark Evans confirmed that the 18-year-old, the second player selected in last year's NAB AFL Draft, sustained the injury while playing for his school side, Melbourne Grammar, on Wednesday.

"He has most likely fractured a bone in his foot," Evans told afl.com.au.

"It's very swollen and it's not going to be a short-term injury."

Evans said Ellis' main focus in 2006 was to play school football rather than for the Hawks."

Terrible luck for the kid. The little I've seen of him has been very impressive.
Hope they put him to work in the gym during his lay-off, and beef up that upper body a little.
(*Strange that beedee hasn't mentioned anything, maybe his truck broke down)

He did it when he stepped on a sprinkler at the ground (opposite junction oval). Shoddy conditions. To be fair, he's not able to play with Hawthorn due to VCE committments, so he may as well be out there having a run and building experience.

And now he can bulk up his upper body.
