Of course not, but you're implying that our players were just standing around doing nothing when they could be leading inot acres of space. Other teams chip their way through Sydney, wait, kick backwards and find the right option. Our skills aren't up to that, as you'd expect with 8 players having played 15 games or less, so we tried a different plan. It didn't work, but it'd certainly give the kids an idea of what AFL football is like. Even getting belted by 100 odd points, there is plenty to be learnt from this game, as from all of the games this year with the possible exception of Geelong.

There is no excuse for not performing the most basic things on the footy field. You could get a bunch of ten year olds out there and tell them to find some space to lead into, or at the very least make it look like you are trying to. This has not been our only downfall this year obviously but when it looks like half of the blokes couldn't give a stuff out there it starts to get a little frustrating

Well then I'd love to see you volunteer your services out on the field. If you though they gave up today you are sorely mistaken. That in its self is something to be pleased with. Deep down we all know where we're at. Rock bottom. Always were going to be with a bad run of injuries like as has happened. But if you can't see the base built for the future at the bombers being as good as it is then you're just being negative. I get pissed off at losses like this too. But heart is step no 1. This might sound stupid but I don't think I've ever seen a team take a 10 goal beating like the bombers have today. It's not good but we're no Richmond of the past 12 years.

Yes I can.

The players didn't give up at any point despite having the last 200 goals kicked against them. If that's not playing for the coach, or playing for the team, then nothing is.

I was mortified whilst watching the final quarter. Luckily I watched it by myself. In the final quarter did we even get it into the 50?

Of course it doesn't feel like Essendon. It ____ing hurts. Some of us are becoming unbearable with the negativity, others looking for positives. At the end of the day, we're all hurting.

I do see your point and agree it is a valid one but as I said earlier, it wasn't just today's game that it has been an issue.

It just seems, looking from the stands, that we are very much a confidence team, which is to be expected from a young group. We go through stages in matches (lately 3 quarters of a game) where there is no movement and we do look disinterested, but then we play some bloody good footy for a quarter and the guys bust their balls to get into space. I just want to see that desperation throughout the whole match. It's a lot to ask from a young team but its what we need to do to become competitive again.

im all for grooming the youth of the bombers and all but this is just ridiculous. a 10 goal thrashing should only happen once in a season! knights just isnt addressing the serious holes in our formation. for the love of god bring back JJ and pev, drop the hacks monfries and laycock (surely anyone can do better than either of them). Basically we are ____ed! this is only going to get worse with hawthorn and an in form adelaide (in adelaide) on the cards. I will not settle for mediocrity. i dont want my club to become another richmond... always with promise and no delivery. shame on you Matty Knights, I was so supportive of you taking the position and you have delivered nothing. The second half of that game was an embarrassment to the players, fans and the club.
Yes yes... rebuilding takes time... but i dont remember any team which rose to won the premiership in later years being thrashed in almost EVERY GAME!!!

We won't beat Richmond. Looking at the draw, and based on current form, I can't really see when we're going to win another game. We might sneak in a win against West Coast at Telstra Dome, and even that will be a tough challenge. Beyond that, it'll depend on how quickly we get our senior players back.

I agree smasha , a lot of Bomber supporters have had a good run for the whole of their lives. Having started out going to the footy in the early seventies i can remember what it is like to be down and out. I had been going to see the Bombers play for 10 years before we actualy won a finals game.

That doesn't take away from the fact that I hate my team losing. And my team has been losing more often than not recently. That hurts. However, I enjoy the 2000 premiership more now, having suffered this, and I will enjoy the next one even more.

u canat blame Knights, geez remeber u guys have been pathetic the last 2 yrs, sheedys obcession with trying to win a 5th flag and drafting blokes like Allan, Zantuck, Cole, Campo, murphy, Alvey, michael Heffernan etc is the sole reason u guys r where u at now, have to give knights2-3 yrs at least to draft some more kids, get rid of the dead wood like jj, pev etc, Sheedy did so much good at that club winning 4 flags and all but geez he really left the clubs playing list in the shi t thats 4sure and that isnt knights fault, get some good kids in the next 2drafts and things can change for the better!

Jesus christ fellow Dons fans get a grip. There's 16 clubs (soon to be 18) in the AFL and it's damn hard to make top 4 and even harder to win a flag. Each year there will be good teams, avg teams and crap teams. It's our turn to be in the last category but I doubt it will be for long if we keep playing the youth like Knights is doing and drafting wisely like we have done the last 2 years.

Varcoe is correct - a lot of our current problems stem from Sheedy drafting recycled players from 2001-2006 trying to remain competitive (but never challenging for a flag) and protecting his job.
