Emma Quayle's 2014 Phantom Draft

Would be ecstatic is we got get Laverde.
I'd be very happy if Emma's predictions were correct. McCartin and Goddard will be a great forward duo. If Weller was available at pick 22 it would be amazing!
Goddard is more of a defender isn't he?

The clubs with picks from about 10 - 25 are going to be sickening with their "I can't believe he slid to us" comments.

I wonder whether the lack of standouts may simply mean a repeat of the 2003 draft - a whole host of duds

Is she serious? 21 picks only? This is her annual gig. She's supposed to be the freaking expert. And she's now a joke.

Looking at the video she's starting to believe her own hype and this smacks of protecting her reputation because it is very very tough after pick 20ish. "Think you got 8 out of 10 last year Emma? nine, it was nine!!!" Whatever. You would think The Age would ask more of her than this squib effort. Can't believe I'm saying it but even Toomeys is better.

Thank God for Knightmare and Snoop.

He is a KPP. He played more defence this year but I think he is better when he is playing up forward, using his athelecism to beat his defender.

Every club tells her they are keen on Tom Lamb. One wonders whether they are all foxing and trying to get another club to take him early to protect another player. From afar it sounds like Lamb comes with as much baggage as a Corby family holiday to Kuta.

Infuriating for Swans and Port fans who enter the live picks so late.... no expert has mentioned who we might take - only the first round, that's a piss take

Well pies did that in the 2010 and 2011 Draft we entered so late. Just harder to get as Excited then when your 1st Pick is around Pick 45

There is close to zero percent of getting picks right after 30. How many did Knightmare actually get right last year? Emma no doubt has done her research; I'd wager that it's an editing decision to keep it short and sweet.

I'll be disappointed if we take Durdin over the likes of Laverde, Lever and even Duggan.

He's got bust written all over him. Classic Wells first pick, tall, skinnish build, no real position...

Probably take up a spot on the list for 4 years and be delisted a la Brown/Hamling...

I still reckon Collingwood are playing Ducks and Drakes and will snap Laverde up.

My Tip: 2 Metre Peter to drop to anywhere from 17 to 23.

Starting to get an Ayce vibe. 203cm who doesn't wanna play ruck and gets pushed out of marking contests at junior level.

A lot of Clubs say they will pick him....but will they pull the trigger?

Just had a look, and even Knightmare got zero picks right between 30-60 (which is when I got bored). Two players ended up at the right club one or two rounds later but most weren't even close. The draft is a total lottery through the 20s and beyond, and there's really no hope for phantom writers to know a) who recruiters like most and b) how tactics will change as the draft goes on and gradual unexpected picks constantly throw them off.

That is fine...but all we are asking for is for her to do a top 30, not a top 60!

Why? Phantom drafts may be a bit of fun but that's all they are. The value in journalists like Quayle, who follow the youngsters' careers closely, is the wealth of information they provide to fans on players and what they might bring to a club. It allows us to dream of what might be, and claim that our club has gotten a "steal" (until they actually start playing at AFL level and real evidence becomes available).

Is it really that important to people to have someone guess 24 hours ahead of time who might go where, with little chance of getting many right. Can we not just wait until tomorrow and find out for real?
