How the hell you think I ended up working on things like the Grammys etc. You think I am educated in this field? Not at all. I learnt it all by doing it. And a lot was for free and I took some chances. But I was enthusiastic and passionate about it. And I worked my arse off.

Its your call but Id dare say there are plenty on here that would back you in.

Go Catters

I'm a pessimist at heart though and having drifted from one job to the next since leaving high school, I can say without any hesitation, I'd have absolutely no shot whatsoever! That job would be for someone who actually completed their schooling and went on to study at a university and got a feel for the job by doing various other fields over a long period of time, hence building up their CV and experience for such a position.
People like myself, dreamers, who have a hobby for creating sport videos are merely that, dreamers and that's where it ends unfortunately.

Be one hell of a job though. I'd do it for free for the first month if I had a chance to at least get my foot in the door, but meh' I've eventually come to realize it's not what you know but who you know.

Gysenn though, he seems like he's got a few contacts at the club already so he'd be as good a chance as any.

No harm in putting in a resume though. If you do get the job it's a bonus, but if you apply for it and don't get it, it's still better than looking back and wondering what might have happened if you don't go for it.

You'll just need to put a link in the application to your Ablett senior highlights video, and after that they'd be crazy not to at least give you an interview. ;)

Let you work do the talking mate. Go for it. Worst they can say is no. But you have to try. Screw the educations shit. You have two things you can't teach. Enthusiasm and passion. Oh, and by the way, you have mad skills. :thumbsu:

Get in there and try.

Lol, this ain't a full time thing, for sure?
Let the club be the judge of the hours. Look at the application for details.

And while I have no information, in this day and age of content and media coverage I could easily see the position requiring 40 hours a week or more. Might not be 9-5 Mon - Fri but I could still see 40 hours.

Seriously, put in an application-your stuff is brilliant. Good luck.

Do love the sentiment of 'you may as well apply' but it's called a key selection criteria for a reason. Being passionate and posting on bigfooty isn't a saving grace.

Whilst you can bullshit and argue for:
§ Advanced knowledge of AFL
§ High level written and oral communication skills
§ Strong relationship building skills
§ Attention to detail
§ Impeccable time management
§ The ability to work in a face paced and ever-changing environment
§ The ability to work across multiple projects and manage your workload
§ The ability to work in a team
§ Advanced computer skills

You would still need to show you have the below, which is the crux of the job:
§ Basic Photoshop and video editing skills are a bonus
§ Media, Marketing, PR, Communications, Journalism or relevant qualification

If you have professional or self taught experience in the second half, you may as well go for it. It's all about the interview anyway, not the stuff written on paper.

I'd argue it's all about who you know not what you know in most things like this

Disagree.

Maybe in small firms this may be the case to give someone a leg up.

In a professional entity such as a football club, they will hire the best person for the job.
Sure, a managers nephew might get an internship, but someone with the right experience and education will get a proper job.

I think a lot of us always think the content shared by the club could be better and believe us 'real' supporters could do a better job. I definitely think you could and it's not the employers job to find the candidate with the best application but rather the person who is going to do the best job.

Nah stop ****ing around and have a crack. You already have the no as they say. Get a friend to look over your CV - present well and even if you don't get the job it's great experience going through the process, and if they hire internally they might need someone to fill a new empty spot or think "hey this isnt the right job for him but how about that position in X".

Did you know that the Geelong Football Club* orders several tens of thousand slabs of Premiership Lager each and every year on anticipation of winning?

Did you know that, on failing to win the Premiership, these slabs are remaindered liquid assets in need of immediate disposal?

Did you know that its a dirty job but someone has to do it?

*Facts may not be factual.

No clubs do, I looked at getting into a few clubs years ago (I'm an accountant) and the salaries were abysmal.
