is how i'm feeling right now.

What a pathetic display today from the demons. From our youngest players to our older players to the coaching staff it really was a pitiful performance. With things finally settling off field, it would have been nice to have seen something out there today; some hunger, a bit of pride in the jumper, a glimmer of hope. Nothing. I don't think any of us deserve what has been dished up this year.
How fitting that there were storm clouds over the G today because we are in for some bleak years ahead. Looking at today, i almost find myself agreeing with Robert Walls that we are atleast 7 years away from a premiership.
Yep, Robert Walls.

I hope that in Rd 1 2009, i will be witnessing a completely revamped fresh DEMON side. And i won't be upset either if some of our 'leaders' are absent from the squad. All i would like to see is SOME improvement. Thats it. Anything less would be an insult to supporters.

(lights match, throws it at dees 08 season)

Re: empty.

yupp im with you man particularaly we had two club greats leaving im absoloutley filthy

agree, two greats deserve a better send off than that crap.

as i said in my rant last week against port adelaide, just to turn up is not good enough you actually need to try. Losing i can accept, not even trying i cant.
It really makes me wonder if people would donate to the club like they have to pay for these guys salaries when they give us no effort what so ever.
I would sure think twice about my donation.

Admittedly, to get belted like we have in our 150th year and with yesterdays send off to W/Y/H being crap, it is hard to accept. To a degree we have looked at times like we weren't trying but it won't be the same next year.

This year Bailey sat back and learnt about the side. He studied which players stood up under pressure and showed promise and he gave some of the more doubtful players a reasonable go to prove them selves. He rotated players a fair bit in different positions and mixed up the game time with our youngsters.

Next year will be Bailey's first actual year of coaching. He will have a more tailored squad which he will build on and develope. He'll start to lock down a few more positions around the park. The players that we lost at the end of last year and the retirees/trades/delistings this year form a massive revamp of our list. The injuries we had this year were massive and as a result we got belted but we also fast-tracked our analysis of many youngsters. Team leadership on the ground was absent for most of the year except for a couple of senior players so really you couldn't have had a worse scenario to go out and play AFL as a 18/19/20 year old. The younger players got through it which is a great achievment IMO. 2008 was always going to be a transition year for us, it is just a shame that it happened in our 150th year - oh well stiff, time to move on.

We have the makings of a great defence with younger players standing up which I think is our major stand out from the year. I would have to search the numbers but I'd guess that the amount of debutants this year and last year that we've blooded would have to be close to a modern era record.

Keep your heads up guys we're finally building from the ground up, for the first time since I've followed Melbourne and that's been since 1987 - and I would hasten to guess a lot longer before then too.

Teams that lack confidence kick the ball sideways.

Melbourne have ""0"" confidence, and it showed in the pathetic display yesterday.

All we want is a dip.

Is anybody listening?

Replay the 2nd half against Freo to them every day in the pre-season. We kicked the ball long and direct and did not allow the opposition to get numbers back.

Hey guys.

It was very sad watching Melb yesterday. In all honesty they were terrible and made Richmond look good.

From an outsiders perspective, Melb should be doing what Hawthorn have done very successfully - fully utilise good draft selections and trade the 27+ year olds that will be retired in any event by the time the team realistically is able to tilt for a premiership opportunity.

Robbo??
Sylvia??
Bruce??
Carroll?
Green?

Obviously not all the above can go but it would be good to see Melbourne trade to such a position that they have 3 draft selections in the top 20. That is how teams like Geelong and Hawthorn emerged.

Sylvia just turned 23.

he aint going to win you a premiership and still has some trade value.

Having said that, of all the players I mentioned, he is the least likely to be put up for trade I would have thought.

Umm, melbourne will already have 3 selections in the top 20. With a 2nd round priority we'll have 1, 17 & 19.

But i agree with what you are saying, we need to try to secure another top 20 or at least top 30 draft picks. 4 top 20 would be great, but if we can't manage that then 5 picks inside the first 35 in this strong draft is still going to be a pretty good start

mate Sylvia is only 23 id've thought by the time he retires Melbourne will have made finals and i would hope challnged for a premiership
