What a bad bill. I’d love to see them enforce this. Put backdoors into SSL, genius.
Thats what you get when grandad - who cant open his email without help - writes legislation on tech.

Im a firm believer that the communications minister should be under 40

Apple constantly tells the US feds to GAGF

Not just about whether the techs actually do it. But it creates a sense of mistrust towards tech companies, especially those whose business relies upon encryption e.g. Senatas, when their clients are using their products which may or may not be subject to these backdoors. Really, the clients won't know because Senatas cannot tell them.

No, there should be fewer lawyers in parliament. Doesn’t matter what age they are, most lawyers are technological ignoramuses.

The stupid thing is its not going to stop terrs one jot.

Theres a million other ways to communicate

There are completely unbreakable codes using ebooks - where you use 100 or mire books and the program uses book number, page number, line number, word number.

Nothing can crack that bar knowing what the ebooks are, what order you are using them in and what size font.

Yep exactly.

They'll force these backdoors, the terrorists will just go elsewhere, and the tech products will just be left with a gaping wide backdoor open for all sorts of s**t. In fact, it'll probably encourage cyber terrorism.

Australian government rejects huawei because back door to chinese government.

*nek minnut...

I truly hope enough tech companies just refuse to operate here rather than have customers lose faith and this stupid legislation is shown up for the silly old man doesnt understand technology bill that it is.

Government: 'Apple, build a backdoor'

Apple: 'No'

Government: 'Please?'

Apple: 'No in spanish"

Government: 'Oh, righto then'

Apple: ‘also, f#%^ off’

Isnt this the same apple that pays no tax - lol - governments dont tell apple what to do

The funniest bit is the government is constantly telling us Australia is too small to make any difference to climate change or any other major international issue.

Apple and all the other huge techs are about to tell the Australian Government exactly how small and irrelevant they are :)
