While there's certainly reasonable arguments for White and Seaby to go, would they let both go? It seems a bit risky when Mumford is a fair chance to miss games through injury/suspension, and Pyke still has plenty to learn.

Seaby is undoubtedly the better ruckman of the two, so I'd think he'd be more likely to stay for that reason alone - if he was willing to stick around as a third-choice option.

Thing is, Goodes isn't a match winner these days, ROK isn't a deciding factor in matches like he used to be, and LRT is, well, LRT. The only player we'll miss is Richards. Yes I know everyone will say that Goodes is a one of a kind player and is a huge lift for the team when he is up and about, but if anything, this season has shown that we can at least cope without him, we aren't reliant on him any more.
Oh dear. Strike 1, 2 and 3. Terrible post.

I think White will get another year after a very strong year in the reserves. He still has some worth as the 2nd ruck but Seaby has been well overtaken by Mumford and Pyke overs the last two years for the 1st ruck role.

We will definitely miss ROK and Goodes as much as Ted. ROK has been a beast in close and very few forwards can give what Goodes gives even when not at full strength.

We can certainly cope without him playing his best but he would leave a huge gap if he was absent altogether. We did ok without him this year but we barely played any top level teams during that time.
Very hard on ROK who is among our best week in week out ATM. Such a hard running player may well have a couple more years after the magic 32 that seems to end most players. Goodes one more year, Ted probably 2 or 3. I suppose at the end of next year it's likely that Bolts and Goodes will retire, and it may be another 2 years til we see more players go. Plenty of time to troll for players

Doesn't make it less true. Make big predictions, be prepared to cop big whacks! Was really a stupid thing to write anyway, even you'd have to admit that.
See my post in POTY for the QF. That's why you got the reaction you did, because when I've already put my hand up to admit I was wrong I don't need it pointed out again and again.

When you write a legend off and it comes back to bite you, it's a matter of wearing it.
And as I said I've already put my hand up and admitted it was a dil comment, I don't think that really requires every single poster to chime in with their own poke.

All I meant, and it was phrased poorly, was that we aren't reliant on Goodes to win games anymore, as was shown in his absences this year.

You have more faith than me it seems, but a 2009 trade/draft period won't happen again, and it would be folly to keep staying on the same path expecting it to. We have the oldest list in the AFL and these retirements will hurt us significantly, just look at Adeliade when the bulk of their senior stars retired, they spent 3 years down the bottom before coming back up again, and I think something similar will happen to us. I think it was a mistake not to rest some senior players against the easier sides and bring in some of the future players to get some experience this year. Did we really need to go full strength against Dogs, GWS, GC, Melb.
Seriously, look at what's happened in 2012. Longmire and co. have developed a group of promising youngsters, 1or 2 elite players and a group of recycled outcasts into a contender for years to come. This is the result of a great system that has kept the Swans playing finals for many years. This very system will overcome any of your perceived issues. It was only a few years ago that we were saying "what will we do without Barry Hall, Mickey O, Kirk etc"?

in 2012, we are a good chance of winning the whole thing - and I still don't believe we have a settled forward line structure!
There is huge upside for us. We have also learnt to play without Goodes and a few other key players for long periods - but kept winning. Another one or two key forwards to support Sam Reid - we're talking Dynasty!

There is a lot to be said for Jarrad Moores contribution to helping bring a lot of or younger players through. I would say the same for Jesse White and Mark Seaby. Keep them on the list.
