On the main board, I posted in the thread about end of year player movement, and it got me thinking, who will we deslit.

Peter Matera and Sierakowski are gone at years end (Siera will probably retire as I said, because it would be better to go out that way then be delisted, ala Taylor last year).

So thats two players gone, plus Beeck will most likely move up from the Rookie list I reckon (going on a few posters thoughts on BF) to see what he can do.

That leaves us with 1 spot to fill on the main list and 1 on the rookie list at the moment.

And I honestly can't see anyone who I would be comfortable delisting. I mentioned Collica, but only due to the fact he is the oldest player, not contributing to the team. Before today Wilson was in a bit of trouble, but he did very well.

If Chambers doesn't get a run by years end he may get the chop, being 24 years old, but its a bit harsh to get a guy to finally show something one year, not pick him at all the next year then delist him.

But we do need to get at least 3 draft picks, and preferably 4-5 to keep a good turnover of players coming through.

Maybe see if we can get a pick for Collica??

McIntosh may retire, but I'd rather he didn't just yet.

i really hope michael collica stays and is able to get a game. he is a personal favourite of mine and i would really like him to get back into the team. i think he can still be a high contributer to our team.

as for delisting i think siera should go, and if we can't get a trade struck up with callum chambers or adam hunter in it, maybe one of those two should get the chop.

Not HuntAAAA! He is just going through a down patch in form. He will be a very good footballer once he matures, no doubt about it!

We need to get rid of at least 4 players dont we to compensate for our draft picks...McIntosh will retire :( Matera already has :( :( and Seira may hang up the boots also. I think he is good for the club though and would like him to stay on in some capacity.

That only leaves one other player to get the chop. Decisions, decisions.

thats if we don't promote anyone and Milli retires.

I don't think Milli will retire, and I think we'll promote Beeck, which for mine leaves 3 to get the chop, and I really can't find 3 players.

We have to cut the list by three. Jako will replace Roo on the vets list, that's one, Siera retire makes two. One more needed. If we elevate Beek thats another delisting required. Nicoski should be okay for another season as a rookie but I reckon he would be worth a run or two at AFL level this season.
I think we will end up trading a good player for a high draft pick, maybe Brauny.

At the beginning of the year McIntosh signed a one year contract and said this was the end - the way he's been playing this year suggests it is his last year, he's still strong, but the knees are crook and his pace is slowing every year. He's had at least a 50/50 return on win/losses against opponents.

Woosha even said it was his last year.

McIntosh to retire means around $400,000 + freed up for contract renegotiations with:

GARDINER
WIRRUPUNDA
COUSINS
JUDD

Jakovich's 400,000 pay packet will have half the amount on veterans list.

Cousins has signaled a pay cut - 300,000 annum

McIntosh - 400,000
Jakovich - 200,000
Cousins - 300,000

900,000

900,000 to resign Gardiner, Wirrupunda and Judd

Add in retirements and delistings, you may free up a further 200,000 - 300,000 dollars and even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Official fact - Ashley McIntosh will retire at the season's end. He said so himself at a function I was at the other week - both his knees are rooted. He'd like to play on, but he can't. The club are organising a function for him on Derby Day II to celebrate his career.

So he, The Great Peter Matera and Siera will retire. Jako will go to the Veterans list.

We may trade players, either in ruck, where we have several good players or midfield.

Beeck will have to show a lot at WAFL to get promoted and demonstrate the right character. It's not certain yet.

Delisting possibilities usually partly depend on contracts and injuries and I don't know how that stands, but Hansen, Braun (T), Carroll, Chambers, Collica, Cox (T), Glass, Morrison, Munro, Wilson and Wooden would not yet be safe from either delisting or trade (T=trade only, wouldn't delist).

Why am I talking about this today?

Retire:
Matera
Sierakowski
McIntosh

Possible delistings:
Munro- Quite frankly, we have better options
Humm - Lacks the class of the players he has to compete for a spot with
Wilson - On a 1yr contract for a reason, though may survive due to our inexperienced KPP

Trade bait:
Cox - Lots of young ruckmen coming up, he is expandable if the right deal comes up
Chambers - Might be seen as a cheap and experienced (relatively) midfielder by struggling clubs (Bulldogs, Dees, <insert vic team> )

Don't think anyone else is in jeopardy of going.

I'd be amazed if he was not retained - looks to be a good hard nut (and is also a good mate of Juddy apparrently - any confirmation VOR?)

In the midfield he is outclassed by the likes of Cousins, Judd, Kerr, Embley, Fletcher and Chick, and then there's the 2nd tier midfielders. So he wouldn't be retained as a midfield option. Down back as a small defender, I imagine Read, Collica, Wooden, Morrison, Green and Wirrpunda would all be ahead of him.

Not a bad player, but IMO not good enough given our current squad.

I actually don't think he's that dis-similar to Daniel Kerr in the way he plays, and he may actually be harder at the nut than Dan is. Reminds me of a Mark Johnson (Essendon) type. I know we have to let some guys go, but he's only in his second year of footy and to me has shown enough to get at least another 1 year contract.

Firstly why are we talking about this today> i aint going to name players as its not the right time. Secondly i am usually an advocate of every one has their opinions no matter whether they are right or wrong, but i am bemused by suggesting we trade/delist Collica. He has been our most consistent backman for the last 2-3 years, and while not getting a game this year so far its due to him coming back from injury. Gee i guess cause morrosin and Read didnt contribute for 2 years we better axe them also. Collica, while not in SCINTILATING form in the WAFL certaintly isnt going badly. And cause hes old? hes 24-25, we cant have ALL young guns, need a few mid 20's. Dont mean to sound like im having a go but hes someone i DEFINATELY did not expect to see as a possibility. We have been talking how shaky our backline looked(till today)..so you wanna axe one of our best back ups?

We won't trade/de-list Collica

It simply won't happen

When fit he's still in our best 18 - clear and simple.

heh funny thread considering today was one of the best wins I've ever seen!

I think the trade bait will lie with Munro, Cox (now Doogs and Seaby are ready), Humm and Chambers.

Collica wont be traded/delisted. If it wasnt for his pre-season injury probs then he wouldve been in our starting 18 easy

I think once he gets back in the side he'll stay for a long time, he's easily better than Carrol and Glass who are currently holding down positions in the backline

Cox and Chambers would be attractive trade bait come seasons end

I don't think Collica has the height or strength for a FB or CHB position. Carroll and Glass are being groomed for those positions. I do think he is our best third tall option though. He reads the game very well. He really competes against Green and Hunter, maybe Morrisson too, for his position. I still think that Glass is really a third tall rather than a key player but I hope Woosha proves me wrong and develops him.

I like what Freo have done with Polak. Playing him in defence in his younger days. We did that with Mitch White too. Doogs did okay at CHF yesterday but I wonder if a couple of seasons in defence would be good.

If Wilson is still in the side come the end of the year then I can't see him being delisted...

Sierakowski would be the only certainty I would say, while Jacko will go to the veterans list. That leaves only one more position we have to make free. I would hate to see Coxy get traded, he is a club man through and through. Just because we have depth doesn't mean we should go trading players away.

Well this is how I see it...

Obviously Matera is gone, so Jakovich will move to the veterans list next year.

McIntosh is gone - no doubt. To be honest, I'm not sure I would want to keep him on after this year anyway. Is he on the vets list - if so I suppose Banfield could move onto the veterans list in his place.

Sierakowski will probably go - I'd say 95% likely. At least he got to play 100 games (I still feel sorry for Paul Symmons).

That leaves us three spots on the main list assuming Banfield moves to the veterans list.

Wilson probably has one more chance to hold his place - if he holds his spot against the Roos, he'd want to kick at least 3 and probably more.

Collica would be much less likely to be dropped from the list. He did play 45 games in two seasons with us - he couldn't be far off playing this year. And hell, he's still younger that Wilson was when he debuted...

Once those players are considered, pretty much the entire rest of what we do trade week/draft wise will be related to what Judd decides to do, but anyway:

Humm - Shaky, but has shown hardness and should survive
Morrison - Too much of an investment after two knee recos to be delisted, and too hard to trade.
Lynch - Can't see him delisted after only one year on the main list.
Munro - Has been getting enough games to suggest the coach likes him. Will stay.
Chambers - Would be worth trying to trade as he clearly is not in the mix this year.
Hunter - Tradeable, but I'd rather keep him on.
Glass - I'd trade him if we could get a fair deal. To be honest I prefer Carroll.
Carroll - On the outer at the moment, but I can't see him delisted, and he'd be hard to trade
Green - Almost done enough to be required I'd say.

Hansen, Seaby, Staker, Johnson and Selwood I can't really comment on. I don't think we can delist/trade Johnson, Staker or Selwood anyway even if we wanted to.

Of the rest, I'd consider a trade for Braun, but he's been here so long now I can't see him wanting to leave. The rest are almost untouchable.

Of our rookies it sounds like Beeck is doing OK - but we all thought that about Buszan, so I'll wait and see. Does anyone know anything about Rudeforth? Gone?

Are you sure Banfield can go onto the veterans list? I thought he couldn't go on until after he has turned 30, which won't be until next year (so veterans list the year after)?

You could be right on that. Unless of course the rules change (which would be great as it would annoy Essendon).

To be honest I thought Banfield was 30 this year.
